Question for you guys in the know...
ND obviously is missing out on some talent that decommitted and others that just prefer other schools. Now, does ND take a lot of 3 stars, knowing in the past they havent been real competitive for whatever reason, to fill the class or leave some scholarships open in the event 2017 is a lot better and interest flows back to ND?
In the past, at least DL wise and possibly WR wise, ND has taken a lot of projects in the 3 star range that just havent been much more than warm bodies. Then next year comes and ND can only take X number which leads to slow playing guys who want to come for higher rated guys which never seems to end well for ND.
So if you are BK, what do you do?
The answer is you take 3/2/1/0 star players that can play. Here's a look at WR's only.
WR's uncommitted (247 ratings):
0 Star - Michael Smith - FL
3 star - Danny Davis - OH
3 star - Gavin Holmes - TX
3 star - Emeke Emezie - NC
3 star - Judah Bell - TX
3 star - Bryan Thompson - CA
3 star - Sam Crawford - TX
3 star - Beau Corrales - TX
3 star - Reggie Roberson - TX
3 star - Victor Bates - CA
3 star - Dre Williams - FL
3 star - Drew Tejchman - GA
WR's committed:
3 star - Leroy Henley - FL - E Carolina
3 star - Mac Hippenhammer - IN - PSU
3 star - Berkeley Holman - CA - Northwestern
3 star - Sage Surratt - NC - Harvard
3 star - Cade Green - TX - Wisconsin
Here's a perfect example of what's out there right under everyone's noses:
Dutch Fork is the #1 team in South Carolina. They have a 3 star WR named Austin Connor. As a junior he finished 2nd in the 100 & 200 at the 4A state championships. The same meet where Troy Pride won 4 championships at the 3A level. He has Duke, Vandy, UGa, Tenn., VT offers along with Army, Dartmouth and Harvard. Looks like a Duke - Vandy battle.
Dutch Fork also has a 0 star WR named Bobby Irby who led the team with 70 rec for 1400+ yds. He doesn't even have a NR profile on any of the services. I promise you, if he can do that playing for the the #1 team in SC, he's worthy of a P5 scholarship. His Hudl page backs that up. I don't know if he has ND books like Connor but it just goes to show you, the undervalued recruits are out there in big numbers.
