Offensive tackle Andrew Thomas has been offered
He should get an offer
Are you talking about the Nelson kid from UD Jesuit?
Hunter rison visited yesterday and hung with Hayes...scout
Like this kid film but in terms of our D tackle recruiting...... lol ooo man
Are you seriously worried about DT recruiting with almost 1 year until NSD?
GB, you following recruiting quite a bit, which is why I get surprised when you have these emotional reactions this early in a cycle.
Yes, I remember you and I going at it last cycle in a good discussion about OSU class and the slow start we were off too. Off to a faster start this year but it still baffles me when it comes to recruiting defensive lineman.
Agree it has been piss poor!
Yes, and I am excited for Kareem, Okwara and Beal but OSU brings in a Robert Beal every class. Not every four classes
That's all, I am done complaining tonight. Everyone knows where I stand on this and I won't beat the dead horse anymore
Well, that's obvious TP. Sign Rashan Gary, Nick Bosa, and Terrell Hall because OSU, UM, and Bama did.
I am just saying they bring in some of those guys every class, ND doesn't on the defensive line. That's why year in and year out those top teams are playing for national titles. I know ND can get there but defensive line recruiting has to improve. I'm not sure how anyone can arugue that or think differently.
There are 120 Div. I programs that would trade place with ND's 2016 haul of Kareem, Okwara & Hayes... then throw in Ogundeji for a project and Jones as a potential / maybe probable crossover too.
That being said, they DO need to land a guy who plays at a 5 star level once on campus every 2-3 years.
Tp you are exactly right but I'm just saying ND needs to start landing some elite Dlinemen. Was happy with the class we brought in this year but it needs to be consistently like that and get a few game changers like Beal once in a while
So, the description above, isn't even be remotely close to piss poor. I'm not trying to be too hard on you GB but you previously quoted a post that said DL recruiting has been piss poor, by saying "Yes", which couldn't be further from the truth.
However, this post, is much more rational. No need for us to be getting worked up and creating an environment, like at rivals and 247. Those boards become unbearable at times because of how many irrational posts there are.
sorry but I am talking about on the field production, not star ratings.
Also I am talking about interior DL.
Day was phenomenal and that's about it...Not awful but we need production inside. We need to clog up the middle and stop the run and protect or MLB.
I think Cage could be really good but Tillary ahh we will see I guess.
I also realize we switched from a 3-4, but in that scheme we should have had more than one nose
We haven't seen anyone else play and it is a major concern going fwd imho
So what is it? First you quoted a post that was talking about recruiting DL and you said that it was piss poor. Now you start this post saying its current production. Then you end the post with it being about what you perceive to be a weakness going forward.
Those 3 topics are completely different things and don't have to be correlated at all. At this point you're just all over the place and it looks like you're just making stuff up.
Sorry but nothing has been piss poor regarding our DL, that was just downright silly to even try and defend that stance. Not one player or as a group has been piss poor. Dude, you're just struggling here.
Day - phenomenal, best DT performance ND has had in a long time.
Jones- Injured
Cage- Solid
Tillery- Freshman with glimpses of huge potential mixed in with freshman wall
Rochell- As solid inside as it comes.
Of the 5 that you mentioned
1. Day is gone and we got no proven replacement.
2.Jones is great when healthy
3.Cage Solid but like jones has been injured but forced to play FR and soph yr due to piss poor recruiting.
4. Tillerysame as Cage..had to play due to piss poor recruiting at this position
5. Rochell is a SDE and has no known replacement -another FR forced to play i assume
I am not saying we are in awful shape, but it is bad (maybe not piss poor) relying on underclassmen to anchor the interior of our defense.
We don't need 5 WR classes. We need classes loaded with front 7 on the D imho
I think just about every program in the country minus Alabama, Florida State and Auburn feels that they need to recruit DL better.
It's just a position that is hard to recruit and project in the first place.
In Notre Dame's case, it's just typically a position a lot of the elite kids are eliminated right off the bat due to grades or simply no chance as they are typically from the South. It's just not good odds that a five-star DE from Florida is coming to Notre Dame.
You can recruit the hell out of kids, but when you simply don't have a chance it's hard to keep doing that year in and out. Notre Dame hasn't given up on elite lineman, as you can see they have locked Robert Beal Jr. down for the 2017 class, but he has ND connections and family in the area.
I get your point, but it's just a position that Notre Dame isn't going to really do well at regardless of how good they are or arent.
Word, but they are able to get a few really good players, about one a cycle.
