This was a coming out party for Gibbs and Geben. Gibbs seems to have a good all around offensive game now that he has slimmed down. If he can keep hitting 3s, hes basically impossible to guard. Also Harvey was impressive in his first game. I liked how confident he was in his mid-range game; that could be a good late-clock safety valve.
And how many minutes did Geben play? It seemed like he was in there a ton, and unlike last year, was actually contributing. I love his passing ability, though there were a few times I wish he just went up strong with the ball. If he can stay solid throughout the year, it really gives the team a new look for this season.
In the first half this team didn't look like a team with final four aspirations, but when they started hitting in the second half it looked possible. They seemingly aren't as good from 3 as last year, but if they can improve a little bit, the passing ability of everyone on the team should give us some good open looks. I like that we started with a pretty good DePaul team because it seemed like there was a different speed to the game that took us some time to get used to. I would rather do that now than in conference.
It is way too early to tell if this is correct and if today was an indication, I don't think that statement is true. They shot 45% from behind the arc today, I'll take that every night.
The team was a little slow coming out of the gate. I wasn't too upset about it because it was the first real game of the season and it was a true road game against an alright opponent. They played much better in the second half and I thought the defense was good all game long.
-TJ Gibbs had a great game and, you're right, it was a coming out party for him. He's gonna be really good at Notre Dame.
-Geben played just okay, IMO. He doesn't go nearly as hard in the paint as Colson; if you're 6'10", 250 pounds you shouldn't be fading away from the basket. But 5 points and 7 boards isn't a bad game for Geben.
-Colson and Farrell, another day at the office. I expect that all season long.
-I thought Harvey had a good game for his first game of his college career. 7 points and he backed up the reports of having a great mid range game. When he first came in I was like "who is this guy wearing basketball shorts and thinking its 1970?".
