Irish came out a little flat, but are up 2 with 3 min left in 1st half. Bonzie looks good and the team can shoot the 3, but not extremely impressive so far. Pfuegler is struggling and just put up a terrible airball on a wide open shot.

This was a coming out party for Gibbs and Geben. Gibbs seems to have a good all around offensive game now that he has slimmed down. If he can keep hitting 3s, hes basically impossible to guard. Also Harvey was impressive in his first game. I liked how confident he was in his mid-range game; that could be a good late-clock safety valve.

And how many minutes did Geben play? It seemed like he was in there a ton, and unlike last year, was actually contributing. I love his passing ability, though there were a few times I wish he just went up strong with the ball. If he can stay solid throughout the year, it really gives the team a new look for this season.

In the first half this team didn't look like a team with final four aspirations, but when they started hitting in the second half it looked possible. They seemingly aren't as good from 3 as last year, but if they can improve a little bit, the passing ability of everyone on the team should give us some good open looks. I like that we started with a pretty good DePaul team because it seemed like there was a different speed to the game that took us some time to get used to. I would rather do that now than in conference.

It is way too early to tell if this is correct and if today was an indication, I don't think that statement is true. They shot 45% from behind the arc today, I'll take that every night.

The team was a little slow coming out of the gate. I wasn't too upset about it because it was the first real game of the season and it was a true road game against an alright opponent. They played much better in the second half and I thought the defense was good all game long.

-TJ Gibbs had a great game and, you're right, it was a coming out party for him. He's gonna be really good at Notre Dame.

-Geben played just okay, IMO. He doesn't go nearly as hard in the paint as Colson; if you're 6'10", 250 pounds you shouldn't be fading away from the basket. But 5 points and 7 boards isn't a bad game for Geben.

-Colson and Farrell, another day at the office. I expect that all season long.

-I thought Harvey had a good game for his first game of his college career. 7 points and he backed up the reports of having a great mid range game. When he first came in I was like "who is this guy wearing basketball shorts and thinking its 1970?".

I was going more on the fact that they shot like 20% from behind the arc in their exhibition games. If you look at the stats from last year though, they should be as good because while VJ and Steve were 3 point shooters, they honestly didn't convert at that high of a rate last year. So I think right now they're not great, but they should even out.

Watching these first two games, I just keep thinking that if we had a true stretch 4, another good sized guy who could open up driving lanes, we'd be really, really tough. We've got a bunch of slashers, but I'm not sure Rex and TJ are going to be reliable outside shooters this year (and anyone else think that, for as athletic as Rex is, he isn't very explosive on his jump shot. Seems really flat-footed and off-balance).

Then I remember that Matt Ryan transferred, and I is sad.

ND starts the Maui invitational tonight vs Chaminade.
#6Wichita State is currently being throttled by unranked California.
Should be a fun tourney!

DJ Harvey needs to be starting over Pflueger. Rex has a huge place in ND basketball history with his tip-in to win over Stephen F. Austin in the NCAA tournament two years ago to get ND to the Sweet Sixteen, but DJ is just a much better player and it is obvious.

Rex has played good D, rebounds well and has had some very nice assists. But he sure has looked bad shooting the ball to start the season.

Couldn't disagree more. Harvey might be better on offense right now, but he is much worse on defense and I think its easier for Rex to get better at offense than it is for Harvey to get better on defense right now.

I agree with this.

Rex is an easy guy to underrate. I was never a believer in Rex, but I've seen him play twice this season, and his intangibles are what make him great. He's also willing to sacrifice himself physically to scrap for any action to help the team. His presence out there is pretty strong. If Brey does a good job with his rotations (which have been great to start the season), both players will contribute significantly to the team's success.

No, leave DJ where he is. He's not needed to light up the board right now. He can bring energy and scoring from the bench.

Rex is not just a glue guy, he is super glue. Probably our best defender and dangerous enough offensively to keep the other team honest. Kid is always where he needs to be and does everything. I can't even believe this is a thing? Shoot 75% from the floor against a DII team or ride the pine?

It’s not really a thing. Don’t worry. : ]

Harvey will definitely be a major contributor, but Rex Luthor will be a big time leader this year.

It was pretty cool seeing Scott Pollard's son playing last night... though talk about an, "I'm getting old," moment.

Farrell single handedly taking over the game early.

I love how Geben's only shots are dunks. He just tried slamming it from about 10 feet away from the hoop, got fouled. Large man. And now he has a layup while I type this.

Mooney getting some early mins while Colson sits.

ND up 16 w/ 7 mins left in the 1st half. LSU is not looking good.

This team continues to evolve and I am once again amazed by Mike Brey. This defense is amazing right now. And it looks like they even made some quick in game adjustments when LSUs big was killing us at the start.

I'm also really liking how Mooney is looking. He looked lost in the first couple games and I think he found his role.

And as good as Farrell and Bonzie are in the pick and roll, Farrell and Geben might be better. They reminded me of the DJ/Auguste combo from a few years ago.

Went to bed shortly after the beginning of the second half and the team up by around 16. Was surprised to see the final margin so large. This team looks pretty good already.

Funny Scott Pollard moment. Marcus Pollard was on the Colts the same time Scott Pollard was on the Pacers.

My sons and I are at Purdue for a football game. One of my sons mentions that Marcus Pollard is sitting about 5 rows in front of us. We're all looking but don't see him. After much animation from him we see who he's pointing to and it's Scott Pollard. After having a good laugh, we tell him it's Scott not Marcus and Marcus is black.

So is Rex our version of Marcus Smart? Doesn’t shoot that well, but is great defensively and makes countless little plays throughout the game that have a huge impact.

Went to bed when they were up 40-24. Was surprised to see them pull away the way they did in the second half. Gibbs is our X-factor IMO. Dude can catch and shoot from anywhere but is also phenomenal off the dribble.

Temple's game reminds me so much of Jerians, probably even better than Grant at this age (Jerian sat out one year due to injury).

Temple's body has also stronger at this age. Dude is going to be an absolute stud.
