I love Mike Brey, but Miami shoots under 70% from the line as a team. Get aggressive and go for steals. Don’t sit back in zone.

Lunardi basically said we are not out of the woods but now we have to bank on if we look like the team we did when bonzie was playing when he comes back then the committee will take a really hard look at us.

But basically yes we need to win out

I honestly don’t see how they make the tourney without winning the ACC tourney or making the final game with Bonzi.

Frustrating - agree with the Sherm and Golden. We really need UVA in the opposite end of the ACC Tourney bracket to give us the best shot of a deep run. I don't see us beating them to end the regular season or in the tourney. Loss to end the season probably means we need to make the ACC Finals to even be bubble worthy.

Assuming we go 8-10, we’re pretty much a lock for the 10 or 11 seed so we would be opposite UVA.

EDIT: 10 seed seems the most likely. Our path to the ACC Finals would be something like:

Round 1: Pitt
Round 2: Bubble-team like Louisville, Miami, FSU, VA Tech
Quarterfinal: Duke
Semi: Clemson/UNC

Did BK and Digger put on a wrestling exhibition during half time?

I like Mike Grey, but I think this is one of his worst coaching jobs in a long time. Remember when they were a top 5 team in November? Lol, times sure have changed.

I know the injury to Bonzie had a big impact, but this needs to be a lesson learned for Brey. You need to be able to rely on more than one guy to have a functional offense. I know Bonzie is good, but they shouldn't be this bad without him.

Next year will look a lot different, but the team is going to be pretty young. Who knows how good they will be.

Not sure how to really respond to this post other than say you must not really follow the team that closely.

Sorry, but this is silly.

In order of importance to the team:

1. Bonzi
2. Farrell
3. Gibbs
4. Rex
5. DJ
6. Geben
7. Mooney

You could argue the last two/three positions, but I think the way our team is structured, this is pretty accurate. We have never had the ability to create an identity as a team this year.

Bonzi gets hurt, we go small ball, with Harvey playing the 4.

Farrell gets hurt, we have to play guard iron man, crash the glass.

Harvey gets hurt, we have to play essentially an off-guard at the point, with two unproven small forwards at the off guard position.

Mooney comes in and scores, Mooney misses NC State

Rex misses a game, meaning where are back to 3 guys total for positions 1-3.

On average in ACC play, we are missing an average of 2.5 starters. That’s freaking insane. The only comparable this year would be UCF.

The fact that we’ve had only 2 games in this stretch where we were handled, Duke and NC State, and been in every game is disappointing, but pretty damn impressive.

There are very few teams at our level that could succeed with what we’ve dealt with.

I’d be willing to bet Bozie comes back for Wake. No inside info, but from the sound of how emotional the post game was, I bet he presses to fight with his boys. Enjoy the last few games. If we can get the next two, at least it will make the game at Virginia must watch tv.

Edit - And if we win the next two, and Bonzi plays, I bet we go four around one, no ball screens against Virginia. We just let Bonzi post and let him go one on one for 40 minutes. If they help, kick and shoot. We will go out riding Bonzi and Matt.

Spot on - If you want to give Brey any grief it is in roster management. Harvey as the only pick up with our roster is kind of light and now we are over-weighted to frosh next year. Lack of bigs that can be a threat on both ends. Since we put so many minutes on top 6 players, the bench was not ready to grow up when folks went down. Those are arguments I can see - what he has made of this skeleton crew is nothing short of masterful though.

Mooney needed another year and Djogo probably two. Burns was probably looking at getting leap frogged. Torres never meant to be more than a 5 minute spark plug. These guys have no business running Top 25 teams down to the wire - but find a way darn near every game - even when the go-to guys struggle offensively.

My biggest concern is the bolded. Brey does it every year - ride the seniors. I think the team is better when they work together and flow instead of running isolation.

I suppose this is true since the last three years have been great.

We went 1-4 without Farrell in ACC play. 5-5 with him. Even with Bonzie out, we'd be in the field right now if Farrell never got hurt IMO. Apart from the blue blood programs, I'm not sure who could have survived this rash of injuries we've seen this year.

I'd sit him till next week. They aren't dancing unless they win the ACC Champ so above everything, it needs to be about his health... Whenever he comes back, I'd play him just enough to get him back in game form.

If we beat Virginia on the road I’d beat our chances would skyrocket. Not only because it’s a good win but it will show the committee that bonzie was a huge missing piece to this team and they will look very close at that game.
I want bonzie to be 100% healthy but I selfishly wanna make the tournament still haha and honesty I think Farrell and bonzie wanna really really make it. Their not gonna go out without a fight and if bonzie wants to play Saturday I say let him play it’s his body he knows it better then anyone else

If we somehow go 3-0 to end the season, we are in with just 1 ACC Tournament win IMO. The difference between ND with Bonzie vs ND without Bonzie will be clear, we’ll have fine comp numbers, and we have recent tourney experience to back it up.

This is exactly what the committee will look at from now on. If we look like we did at beginning of year in Maui then you can bet we will be in(most likely).

Even with going 3 and 0 we'd still be at only .500 in the ACC. We'd have to go VERY deep into the ACC tourney IMO to be considered. The homer in me says it could happen, but the realist in me says a 500 team that would still likely be in the bottom half of the ACC is probably not going to make it. The ND homer in me has a very strong voice so I'll be thinking it will happen till it doesn't.

Haha I may sound very homer too but like me and irishfan said before the committee is gonna to watch the next couple games we have won bonzie very closely and if we look like we did in Maui then it will be up about 50% assuming we win last 3 and win 2 in acc tourney

I was looking at projections for the ACC tourney and doing different scenarios and I almost want to be the 11 seed. That means we probably play WF first. Then second round we would get like a NC state or FL ST or VT. All winnable games for sure. The third round we would most likely run into UNC or Clemson but most likely UNC. I’d much rather play them then duke in the third round. Then we would play duke next round if we got there.
I think the 11 seed defiantly gives us better chance to get to quarter finals or semi finals hopefully

Was thinking the same thing and if Duke beats UNC to end the year, hopefully UNC falls down from the 3 seed. When healthy, we can definitely take Clemson or NC State or VT who both have favorable schedules and I believe would get the tiebreaker over UNC if either wins out.

two tourney wins might get us in depending on how other bubble teams do. I think it would taking us going 3-0 and then 3 tourney wins. I just don't have a lot of faith in the selection committee.... We also need to cheer for some of the teams on our past schedule. First things first. Let's go 3-0. If we're 2-0, that VA game will be killer fun to watch.
