Bubble Watch 2/19

This could be pretty short lived, since if we lose tonight, we're out, but I thought it would be interesting to keep track of games each day that could influence our standing on the bubble.

1.) Oklahoma vs Kansas - Probably not real impactful for us, but I think the wheels are pretty close to coming off in Norman. Oklahoma is now 16-10, soon to be 16-11 after tonight at Kansas. They close with KSU at home, at Baylor, and ISU at home. They could, potentially, finish on a 1-3 (I can't fathom them losing to both ISU and KSU at home). Odds are they get 2 of the 4 and stay off the bubble, but they have looked really bad recently.

2.) Maryland @ Northwestern - Maryland is on the outside looking in, but I'd rather not give people reason to discuss teams getting close to the bubble. They are currently 1-9 vs Quadrant 1/2 teams, so they don't have a huge resume to lean on. But, a loss at NW would completely shut the door.

Pretty quiet bubble night (other than our game).

Ya defiantly root for northwestern. Need to get as many teams as we can off the bubble watch. I still can’t belive Oklahoma is a 6 seed and they have one more win then us. I understand they have some good wins but a 6 seed with 10 loses I don’t get it.
I can’t imagine us not being on the minds of the committee

RPI is currently 58. Would love to see us win and crack the top 50 tomorrow.

Hypothetical Conference Final Standings after Reg Season Play based upon ESPN's Matchup Predictor (Obviously this isn't going to end up being 100% accurate, but it is a plausible scenario)

--------------Current---- Remaining---- Projected---- Seed
VA Tech_____ 8-6_______2-2_________10-8______ 6
Louisville____ 8-6_______ 0-4_________ 8-10______10
NC St._______8-6 _______4-0 ________10-6 ______5
Fl St._______ 8-7________1-2________ 9-9_______ 8
Miami ______7-7________ 2-2________ 9-9_______ 9
Syracuse____ 7-7 _______ 0-4________ 7-11_____ 11
ND_________ 6-8 _______ 3-1 ________9-9_______ 7
BC _________6-8________1-3________ 7-11______12

Notre Dame would end up the #7 team based upon head to head with FSU and Miami and would get a first round bye and face the winner of the #10/#15 game. Added bonus is that if we are the #7 seed instead of 8/9, we avoid Virginia in the next round.

If the scenario above holds true, we would pass Miami, Florida St., Syracuse and Louisville who are all currently in the NCAA tournament based upon the latest ESPN bracketology. That same bracketology has every ACC team in the tournament that has a .500 or better conference record.

I was doing the math yesterday and this is our best scenario. And it is very possible. Even if we are a 7 we most likely gonna get duke or UNC. Duke could be hard but I could see us beating UNC assuming everyone is healthy again.

Even tho we are on the outside looking in I think we are in the hick of things.

Have to win tonight it’s a huge game

Was hoping for 7 seed as well which is why Clemson losing to Duke yesterday was such a bummer. I’d like our chances against Clemson on a neutral court.

I can't believe ND is letting a kid with a cauliflower on his head drop a last second 3 on them. Ugh

Probably lucky only to be down 9. Miami got hot, we couldn't make a shot outside of 4 feet (sans Farrell).

TJ needs to stop disappearing. He does this about every third game.

This season is more on the ropes now after that half

They are doing to us what we’ve done to teams the last few years, playing a smaller lineup and spreading the floor. Unfortunately, we just don’t have the personnel to match that. We need them to miss some shots in the second half, probably some open looks.

That’s Why missing Rex is big cause that’s another guard we are missin plus he’s amazing at D

That Lykes kid is going to be fun to watch for the next three years. I’m guessing Brown and Walker go pro, but he will be an absolute handful.
