Assuming the following:
- RB Bryant does not return
- DL Hayes transfers after season
- OL Stanley declares for NFL draft
- LB Smith declares for NFL draft
- CB Russell declares for NFL draft
- RB Prosise returns for 5th year
- DL Jones returns for 5th year
- DB Baratti returns for 5th year

I count us as having 6 scholarships remaining for next year to get to 85. No doubt those assumptions won't be entirely correct and there will be other attrition, but I'll go with this for now. Who are the ideal (and realistic) guys to fill those slots? My opinion (no order):
- DB Damar Hamlin (PA)
- DB Donte Vaughn (TN)
- DB Brandon Burton (CA)
- DL/LB Daelin Hayes (MI)
- ATH Demetris Robertson (GA)
- ATH Damian Alloway (CA)

Obviously this is just a wish list, but we seem to be in very good shape with Vaughn, Hayes, and Alloway, while certainly in play for the other three (IMO, Burton will be the toughest pull). What are everyone else's thoughts? (also, if my math is wrong about 6 slots please correct me)

Not going to do the math on number of scholarships so I'll just run with your 6 spot.

WR- Javon Mckinley
DB- Donte Vaughn
S- Devin Studstill
APB- Alloway/Stovall
LB- Jonathan Jones
LB- Aaron Hansford

If we win big, starting this weekend, then I'll become more optimistic about Robertson, Hamlin, Fuller, etc.

I highly doubt we're holding a roster spot open for Baratti, and talk of Hayes transferring is premature. I like your list, but if we keep winning I'd love to see us take another run at Betiku, and try to make a move on David Long at his Navy OV.

What do you think about Daelin Hayes? Where do you think he signs given recent 'signing of LOI' or whatever that was.

Don't really have a feeling one way or the other, thats why he's not on my list. I could see him going to either school and I could even see him ending up at somewhere else.

he wants to take one at ND...and from a pac 12 writer, if 1 school that could flip him it would be ND.....he is also the one who reached out to ND following him committing to ucla

That looks really good on paper... if the LB unit comes together, then yesir.

obviously, everyone is healthy in my ND 16 fantasy.

No LB's this cycle?

I'd like for us to get one but who? Maybe replace Vaughn with Hansford? Right now it seems like accepting early commitments from some of the lower-rated guys was a mistake based on how many high-rated guys we have genuine shots at. I'm interested to see how this plays out if a bunch of top prospects want in.

Why are people now projecting Hayes to leave the program? So he was benched - who was the last player that was benched at ND that transferred from the program?

Linebacker looks really light. And I don't think we have enough high-end DL.

Otherwise, looks pretty decent.

I think if Prosise keeps playing this way he is gone, and I think that Fuller will be gone as well. I am not sure if Baratti gets a 5th year.

We really need to take 2 more LBs this cycle.

may change w/ Kareem now giving another chance

I don't buy that Kareem is really giving us an honest look. He's coming to watch a big time football game, imo. He said this verbatim about his MSU visit and hasn't really done anything to make me assume we are a unique butterfly in his recruitment.

i get that side of the argument...but in reading bama sites even when he committed, it didn't sound like his was over...i think personally w/him being a high academic kid the realization of education+football is taking over versus where he was in getting caught up in the excitement and hype...my .02

I know we all penciled in KVR as going to the NFL before this season started, but does anybody think his draft status falls off to the point that he stays?

Hmmm. I would think he probably wants to leave regardless but I guess it's possible he stays. I would guess 70/30 he leaves right now.

Because he publicly criticized the coaching staff, claims that the coaching staff has given up on him, and said that he wants to leave ND after this year. I don't know whether he will or will not transfer, but there are always transfers in the offseason and he is clearly the most likely candidate to transfer at the moment.

But who would you drop off my original list of 6 to add one or both of them? I'd say Vaughn for sure but then if it's we can either have Jonathan Jones or Damar Hamlin, I want Hamlin even if he's not as much a position of need because I think he's a much better prospect.

Scout: there's a potential visit with a Michigan commit for the GT game. Possible flip if offered. Chris Evans would be my guess but no name was given.

FWIW, this recruit is/was LB Dele’ Harding. He stopped by ND a few weeks ago and may visit down the road.

GA DE Antonneous Clayton is in the process of setting up his OV for the USC game. We're not perceived to be much of a player at this point but I'd love to get a visit and see what happens. I'm on phone running errands, so if somebody has the chance, moves this to his thread or I will in a little bit

I get that he publicly criticized the staff but if he was sure that he would be transferring after this season why would the staff even keep him on the roster? Why is he still on campus? To me, it's just a kid that might be a bit homesick, frustrated at a lack of playing time, and he does what quite a few other kids would do - acts like a kid. I'm not ready to write him off yet. I can remember a couple of ND players that had similar problems that stuck it out - Louis Nix being the first one that comes to mind.
