Yes but you agree that Brey needs to go?

No.

I've never thought he was a bad coach, and it's not like he gets world beaters to come to ND, also, he has the absolute shittiest luck when it comes to players.

If they bring in another coach, maybe he would have better luck with transfers and injuries? Either way, this is ND and they have to recruit based on who can actually make it. It's not like football where you can recruit 25 per recruiting class and take injuries and transfers in stride.

@angdicarlowndu: BREAKING: Mike Brey says on radio broadcast that Demetrius Jackson "needs a break to get his academic house in order."

And as much as crap needs to change, if it's how it sounds, good on Brey.

We aren't going anywhere. Sure, you'd love to get him experience, but the way he's playing, coupled with if he's struggling academically, he needs to step (or a forceful push) away.

This is good for him. He was struggling on the court (I guess as much as he was off the court).

Hopefully he mans up and gets things in order and doesn't take the easy way out like someone else recently.

Nice win tonight (couple of big 3's by Vasturia in OT)...although I heard Sherman may have broken his finger. Anyone know if this is true? We can't afford to lose another player!

He broke it, but I cant imagine him losing any time with a broken finger unless it a horrible break. He's a senior, I feel like he wouldn't shut it down with that type of injury.

For as bad as we are this year, we are actually pretty close to being a tourney team. Apart from the Virginia game and the 2nd half against UNC, we've held our own in ACC play and have just folded in late-game situations. We even played Iowa very tough out of conference and they're the real deal. Hopefully we can get these next two at BC and at Miami (they're both terrible) and get some momentum going and get Burgett back to where he was before his heart issue.

Not close at all.

Our best out of conference win was against Indiana (14-9, 4-6 in the Big Ten)
We have a terrible loss to N. Dakota St. at home.
Bad loss to Indiana St. at home.
Only two quality conference wins (Duke, Clemson)
0 road wins

Playing a few teams tough (Iowa, OSU, Syracuse) doesn't make you close to being a tournament team. It's just means the team got excited to play the best teams on their schedule on national television and performed relatively well. Playing mediocre ACC competition close for 2/3s of the game and ultimately losing isn't impressive.

I guess I'm just more or less impressed our team has lost Grant and looked OK apart from the Virginia game and the 2nd half of UNC. Losing him was obviously the equivalent of losing Golson, except as opposed to going from 12-1 to 9-4 without him, we have gone from like 9-4 to 5-7 haha.

I'm just optimistic about our chances in the ACC moving forward due to the fact we've held our own with pretty much the worst ND team in years. ND is, IMO, the 3rd worst job in the ACC, so performing better than that in year 1 with everything we've had to deal with is fine by me.

I see where you are coming from in that the team should probably be getting blown out every game but we are hanging in there.

That being said, if Grant doesn't come back (and maybe even if he does) things look kind of bleak next year. We have no quality interior depth and losing Atkins is going to hurt a lot, especially if DJ doesn't develop quickly.

Agreed. Next season hinges on DJ and Grant both returning and DJ developing.

And for the record, if we're out of the tourney again next year, I won't be opposed to firing Brey ha

For next year, developing DJ along with Auguste will be extremely important. I think the loss of Cooley this year has hurt tremendously. We need to recruit and develop athletic, bruising, and relentless players in the paint who will defend and rebound with tenacity.

Brey mentioned in his last presser they were going to pursue 1-2 transfers this off-season. Does anyone know about the 5th year rule in regards to transfers? I obviously always hear about it in football, but not so much in basketball. I assume it would work roughly the same way with the 5th year enrolling in summer courses before the fall? I'm just wondering because right now, even with Grant and Jackson coming back, we only have 7 guys who have any experience, and it will be tough to count on a frosh, Katenda, or Torres to offer anything off the bench.

Right now, I see our team as:

Jackson
Grant
Connaughton
Vasturia
Burgett
Beachem
Auguste

Hopefully a 5th year? Or someone who has graduated in 3 years?

It's pretty impossible to predict starting lineups right now.

On my phone but per Matt Fortuna's twitter, DJ is back with the team tomorrow.

Playing BC on ESPNU right now, not sure if national or local broadcast
