So here's the pushback. If both players run the same offense and both players, lets say, grade out at a 8 out of 10, for simplistic purposes. Then why would you ever disrupt timing with WR's, cadence at the LOS, command of the huddle, etc. If all you are doing is subbing out an 8 to put in an 8, especially considering they'll be running the same plays.

Now, if the approach is, Zaire will be running these certain plays, because he can do so at a much higher level than Kizer and vice versa, then it might make sense. Otherwise, its just change for the sake of change and making people happy. Not about wins and production, because the production would be the same, right? Essentially you are not gaining production because that production would've happened by just leaving in the other player, making the change doesn't add extra production.

That is what Kelly intimated, when he spoke of playing both.

You do realize that not everyone on the team are best buds with each other don't you? Guys might not like a QB, but if he's a winner and capable of leading the team the players will play just as hard for him as a rah rah guy. Especially one that proved himself last year.

ok so what we've gathered is a couple things

1. The offense is likely to change little regardless of qb. Kelly has even said in the past its a right handed offense and malik would have to run it that way.

2. Positives for Kizer: has more game experience. arm, pocket passing

3. Positives for Zaire: better runner, better at option reads, play extension/creation

Where I think the deciding factor comes in, is the things that Zaire does better, Kizer is still above average/good enough at. So there is no loss of those qualities.

Ultiimately i can see where depending on situation (time of game, field position, score, etc) where the non starter gets a whole drive.

I dont expect too much flip/floping within drives.

But say we get a turnover around the opponents 40 near end of half. and you want to milk some clock. Thats Zaire's drive. 2:00 drill with 70 yards to go, thats Kizer's drive.

Three fallacies on this thread :

• Elmer isn't a superior lineman. He started and graded out well at UND.
• Competition within position group gets you ready to play against elite P5 contenders on Saturdays. Nothing gets you ready to get your head bashed in at the veracity the game is played at the next level.
• Zaire is a better runner than Kizer. The are pretty damned even. In fact how many times did each break away from defenders? Zaire didn't and Kizer sure did!

What Zaire does better than Kizer, and maybe better than any quarterback in the country is extend plays and make a new, successful launch-point possible. Now that is a talent worth gold in college football!

To play devil's advocate, how do you know Kizer is a good leader? I think it's hard for us to make that distinction as fans, I think we have to rely on players, coaches, and people close to the program to make that call. Those people have said Zaire is a good leader numerous times, and that the team responds well to him. That's not to say Kizer isn't a leader, I certainly think he stepped up in the 3rd quarter of USC when he laid out for that 1st down. Still...you don't hear people close to the program mention his leadership qualities nearly as much. Zaire's name is the one that comes up time and time again.

By having watched him since he was about 11. In high school DeShone was a better 'leader' than most adults I've met. In seventh and eighth grade the kid was unbelievably poised and mature. And he is as hungry of a competitor as I have ever known.

McKinley secure that ball young man!

I have to give it to Vancouver. I thought there was no way Claypool would see meaningful action this year. Knew the kid was athletic freak, but raw and played horrible competition. Vancouver all along has been saying the kid would get meaningful reps this year.

The kid has been balling out! I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up starting by the end of the year...3 year college player...Sunday player.

Thank you sir. I was originally thinking redshirt then I saw him in person. There's actually some really solid players in Vancouver especially in AAA ball. Claypool played AA. Vancouver high school football produces at least a few Div. 1 scholarship players every year. Having played HS ball here and coached for over ten years, I can confidently say he is by farthe best player I've seen in Canada HS in my lifetime. He looks GREAT physically and can run great routes, jump like crazy, sure hands, is tough as NAILS and very good after the catch and just a GREAT kid. Can't wait to see him play.

It's a little early to say but he will play this year and make big plays and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest with his skill set and size and catching ability that he ends up in the NFL after three.

With the loss of Alize, he could be really good in Big WR sets and what I think is he'll be great in the red zone. He should get single coverage and I'm serious, Chase can F'n JUMP!!

No, the balls drive by Kizer prior to BVG's defensive debacle. The discussion was about leadership etc and Kizer threw the squad on his back. Props have to go to CRob on that long third down catch, though. Shame on you for bringing up the BVG scheme!!!!!
