Another very questionable call with 4 seconds left to put Virginia at the line to tie the game.

I'm not sure that was even questionable. I didn't see the first block until the replay, and that...

And while I type it, he just hit that shot.

Edit - Bah, didn't count. To the original post, that's some real bad officiating. The second block was a bit of contact, but it's a weak call. The first block was absolutely clean.

So, going 2-1 down the stretch already guarantees us a top-5 seed for ACC Tournament....so close

You know the drill. I started with three of the top leagues—the ACC, the Big 12 and the Big Ten—and spoke with three coaches from each league, including head coaches and assistants. In exchange for their anonymity, I asked them to provide their assessments of the top teams in their respective leagues. If you find that these reports are overly negative, that is my doing, not theirs. We already know these teams are good. I wanted to know their vulnerabilities, because that info can mean the difference between a second-round exit and a trip to the Final Four.

Notre Dame: “[Junior forward] Bonzie Colson is such a unique player. He has ways of driving by bigger guys. Even though he’s capable of making jump shots, you’d rather he did that because at least he’s not getting you into foul trouble. They’re not hard to score on, but they don’t foul you. They put so much pressure on you with their offense. It’s hard to get that many skill guys together. You gotta try to level [junior guardMatt] Farrell as much as you can and not let him get going downhill, because he’s such a good passer. You want them to have to make contested two-point shots. Their biggest weakness is their size. They’re not a great offensive rebounding team because they’re small and non-athletic. Farrell can really shoot it, but he doesn’t finish. Colson is only 6' 5", so you gotta make him defend around the basket. They let you play in front of them. You’re going to have to score over them all night. They’re not going to play passing lanes and gamble and get themselves in trouble. Farrell is their weak link defensively.”

From Jan. 24 to Feb. 5, Notre Dame lost four straight. From Feb. 7 to Feb. 18, the Irish have won just as many, including potentially damaging back-to-back road trips to Boston College and NC State. The upshot: Notre Dame is now a lock. The Irish have a solid resume highlighted by six top-50 wins, including over Louisville and Florida State at home, at Virginia Tech, and against Northwestern on a neutral floor. Their only loss outside the RPI top 25 -- which is an impressive-enough distinction on its own -- came by two at Georgia Tech. Small-ball center Bonzie Colson and the efficient offense that hums around him will make a lovely aesthetic addition to the 2017 NCAA tournament.

Right now, CBS has the Irish as a 5 seed playing UNC Wilmington with Butler as a potential 2nd round matchup. I'd be pretty happy if thats how it got set up. They'd probably play #1 seed Gonzaga in the Sweet 16.

No matter where we get seeded, we need the same VJ that has showed up the last few games and the VJ from last March. A good VJ, Bonzie, and Matty could lead this team to another Elite 8

All about matchups! We finally got a good draw the last two tournaments after Brey couldn't catch a break forever before that, If we do sneak our way to a 4/5 seed, I think we match up fine with Nova or Gonzaga if we get to Sweet 16. UNC/Kansas would be trouble.

Assuming that we take care of business the next two games at home against Georgia Tech and BC, I think a win over Louisville in the season finale would clinch a 5 seed minimum for us IMO with a chance to push that higher with a run. If we lose to Louisville, we're probably entering the ACC Tournament right at the 5/6 line.

Big games tonight for the ACC standings and our push for a double-bye:

Duke at Syracuse (7:00 on ESPN)
Louisville at UNC (9:00 on ESPN)

1) UNC 11-3
2) Louisville 10-4
3) Duke 10-4
4) Florida State 10-5
5) Notre Dame 10-5
6) Miami 9-6
7) Virginia Tech 8-7
8) Virginia 8-7
9) Syracuse 8-7

For anyone curious about tiebreakers with FSU or with Louisville (if we lose to them and we be both finish 12-6), after your head-to-head record, it goes by your record against the top seeded team in the league. If you have the same record against that team, you go to the next highest seeded team and so on until someone has a better record.

FSU has us beat across the board. They have either an equal or better record against UNC/Duke/Louisville, so they will beat us out with the same record.

Louisville is yet to play UNC, so tonight's game would determine that potential tiebreaker. They went 1-0 against Duke, so they have us beat there. They went 0-1 against FSU, so we have them there.

What a huge win by Cuse against duke. Puts us in a 3 way tie with duke and Fl st for 3rd. They both have the tie breaker tho

My oh my, does that help us (or at least give us another potential path to the top 4).

Duke still has @UNC, @Miami and FSU at home. Lose 2 of those, and they are with UVA with 7 losses.

We hold court, the L'ville game may not decide our ACC fate after all.

Is there a point where we should start feeling sort of bad for Clemson? In any other Power 5 league, they are probably a top 6 team.

But if they would have pulled the upset over FSU off, it could have made the FSU/Duke game a top-4 elimination game. Would have been huge for us (of course, if we hold serve).

Been frustrating watching Jarrett Allen all year wasting his talent on a bad Texas team that wont even finish close to .500, when he could have been the missing piece to a final four run this year.

How's the Dook loss to Miami factor into the ACC tourney seeds?

So basically ND wins last 3 games automatic double bye. We win 2 of 3 and duke loses one more then we get double bye. Duke still has to play AT UNC.

Also if every thing holds steady as it is right now we would end up getting duke first round then UNC 2nd round for the 3rd straight year

I was literally just thinking this the other day. Would have been a absolutely massive addition

Rex needs to realize that being a really good defensive player doesn't always mean you challenge every dribble your guy makes. Instead, just make getting to 15 feet difficult. He's way to up on guys way to often, and gets beat.

Man, we should be up double-figures, but we hit an absolute rut before Farrell hit that 3. VJ and Ryan both got some open looks and just couldn't knock them down.
