I don't think we get Kinnel, I think he sticks with Michigan after they hire a new coach. I think we get Jennings and hopefully Edwards... and really could use a 3rd.

And yes, McKinney was the name posted in the Odds to Flip thread on 12/5. Sorry for delay.

Ugh. I really like Prentice.

Considering we're looking pretty good for Kinnel and Edwards, I don't view this as an issue. Both very quality prospects. Also, Prentice potentially not being a part of this class has to do with him not the staffs recruiting efforts. I think our secondary haul with finish up quite nicely.

We were looking great for Ronald Jones about 25 minutes ago so....

Depending on who they get I could see that. However, per Loy he and his father told another prospect and his family that he'll be attending ND.

So would that be the silent commit whose thunder Loy didn't want to steal? lolol

I don't buy this based on his Scout interview. Dave Berk has been in touch with Kinnel for a long time too it seems so I trust it, as much as you can in recruiting anyway.

I agree with you, I think Kinnel likes ND a lot however he sticks with Michigan. Edwards and Jennings are the two safeties I see us landing which is fine by me

I hope Coney stays committed. Don't like McElwain bringing Florida back in late. Plus his Tweets stated he didn't dig the cold. Major shocker.

The comment about the cold isn't something to worry about. DJ Durkin is the one coach on that staff that would get Coney to flip as he's been the main recruiter for Coney and he's been linked to two different DC jobs as there's uncertainty regarding Jim McElwain's staff. Now, its been reported that Durkin leaving UF for UNC is unlikely, the fact that his name is being linked to other jobs should give Coney pause simply because it appears he could be on his way out. UNC authorized Larry Fedora to offer him a competitive package so you never know.

I am hoping BOTH of you are right. Him bragging about getting to wear #4 helps ease my fears.

So depression seems to be taking hold in some of the individual recruits threads right now.

Who are we most likely to get the rest of the way?

Some as of yet unnamed 3 star, and everyone will fall in love with his upside.

I'll say Jennings, Edwards, ESB and some RB, possibly Dexter or the new kid Vaughn

I'm not ready to completely give up on Alize or Ronald Jones yet.

It seems too good to be true now that a top 10 rb and the #1 te would both commit AFTER the way we finished. I'd like that slim margin tho!

Me neither. Until Alize doesn't let our coaches in the house or signs with UCLA, I don't see how you can possibly give up on him. With Ronald, all of this "silent" stuff is just echo chamber from when he told USC commits on his visit that he was "coming to USC." That's how this all leaked out, specifically with Ricky Town. There is no other indication that when he has made a decision... all other sources indicate that once he makes up his mind he'll make an announcement.

I'd probably put our odds below 50% for each of them, but in no way do I think we're out of it right now.

I agree, there's too much there to say it's a lost cause or they are gone. I'll say Im not as confident as before but there are some facts that should give us some confidence. I have a rather long post that I'm not currently able to post but I think there is se really bad info out there that is causing some to believe this is over.

Well Star six douchbag was posting some "inside info" at BGI that is complete garbage, IMO. And I think that stuff has spread throughout the interwebs.

Send the house to see ESB, Biggie, Alize, and Soso all one more time. Make sure Alford and Cooks lead the sales pitch.

I don't know what bad information you're referring to, so I'll defer to you on that.

Kelly's closing history is unfortunately not stellar. Even when he signs a highly rated recruit in January or later, the results aren't pretty.

(Numbers per Rivals)
2010
Luke Massa verbal 1/31/10 3-star
Derek Roback verbal 1/31/10 3-star
Danny Spond verbal 2/1/10 4-star
Bruce Heggie verbal 2/3/10 2-star
Matt James verbal 2/3/10 4-star (RIP – his story still makes me sad)
Kona Schwenke verbal 2/3/10 3-star
2011
Nick Martin verbal 1/11/11 3-star
Ishaq Williams verbal 1/14/11 5-star
Chase Hounshell verbal 1/17/11 3-star
Aaron Lynch verbal 1/18/11 4-star
Stephon Tuitt verbal 1/19/11 5-star
Troy Niklas verbal 2/2/11 4-star
2012
Elijah Shumate verbal 1/9/12 4-star
Gunner Kiel verbal/enrolled 1/17/12 5-star
Davonte Neal verbal 2/21/12 4-star
2013
Tarean Folston verbal 1/2/13 4-star
Max Redfield verbal 1/4/13 5-star
Durham Smythe verbal 1/27/13 3-star
Eddie Vanderdoes verbal 2/4/13 5-star
2014
Nyles Morgan verbal 1/4/14 4-star
Pete Mokwuah verbal 1/24/14 3-star
Daniel Cage verbal 2/5/14 3-star

After January total # of verbal/signings/enrollees - 22
2 or 3-stars = 9/22
4 star = 6/22
5 star = 5/22

Looks pretty good right? 11/22 are rated 4 or 5 star. More on that later.

You can write off 2010 since he only had so much time to put together a “finish” to that class, but it is his class. Probably not fair to include 2014 since they only have 1 season of playing time to judge them by. But I’ll include both so no one thinks I’m skewing the numbers.

January signees for the 2010-2014 classes
6/21 transferred
2/21 that played out their eligibility had great careers
3/21 that stayed on the team never played meaningful minutes or at all
2/21 had a good career but left early for the NFL
1/21 got kicked out
7/21 who are still on the team could have good careers
(I wasn't sure how to include Matt James, so I left him out of these numbers. It was tragic, not anyone's fault.)

Of the 11 4 or 5 star players Kelly has signed in January, 9 of them ranked as one of the top 5 members of that ND class:
2010 – 1/6 was in the top 5 for that class (Matt James)
2011 – 3/6 … (Williams, Lynch, Tuitt)
2012 – 2/3 … (Kiel, Neal)
2013 – 2/4 … (Folston, Vanderdoes)
2014 – 1/3 … (Morgan)

When Kelly signed players in January (9) that ended up being one of the top 5 members of that class:
1/8 had a great career (Tuitt)
4/8 transferred (Kiel, Neal, Lynch, Vanderdoes)
1/8 got kicked out (Williams)
2/8 have a chance to have a good career (Redfield, Morgan)
(again, didn't include Matt)

If past precedent means anything (maybe it doesn't), it is possible but unlikely that Kelly will sign more than 2 players who would be ranked in the top 5 of the class. It is 50/50 that he could sign 2. Both Alize and Ronald would be in the top 5 of the 2015 class. Even if they both do sign, it is slightly less 50/50 that both of them turn out to have great careers. (Equ StBrown would rank as #6 (per 24/7))

High ranked January signees don’t choose Kelly, transfer, or they don’t live up to their high ranking.

Sorry was traveling to the coast with the lady before we go our separate ways for the holiday. Star69, complete asshat, was posting what he calls in inside info from west coast people telling him that Ron Jones was gettig annoyed with ND coaches contacting him and he was only doing it (OVing) so they'd leave him alone. That's why as soon as he got back he silently committed to them. IMO, that is so much made of crap. Mom wouldn't pay her way to come to south Bend, not a destination place like LA, If her son wasn't serious about ND.

Tom Expects ND to add R Jones, A. Jones, ESB, and Ben Edwards.

He thinks the ESB commitment is the most likely.

A. Jones source says he is likely flipping to ND. Mora has increased recruitment of Chris Clark

R. Jones is 50/50 USC and ND. Still torn and will likely commit at All-Star Game

I assumed that Loy's BIG finish was that he thought we were going to offer this kid

This makes me happy! Good report on ESB and I will take the silence from Alize as a good sign. RJII would be a nice get but I still am praying for Soso. Wish Biggie pulled a shocker for ND on NSD.
