With next week being the bye week we'll have quite a few coaches on the road recruiting. Something I started thinking about with the Michigan recruiting weekend coming and passing without commits is.....

Do you think that we have a set board right now that we're willing to hold tight with for the foreseeable future? Or do we take this first bye week as an opportunity to start up some new relationships and send out new offers/work old ones?

Something to keep in mind is the next open date is the weekend after FSU, Oct. 25th.

Also, we started out this class thinking it was going to be small but kept hearing that the staff was willing to push the numbers much higher than previously thought.

Do you think that we end up with that smaller class or we still push that number?

1. IMO mostly catch up with current recruits, including guys like Brewton, Cager and guys we hear less about. Maybe a new name or 2 if someone has really caught the coaches eye.

2. 23-25 as it sits now. Depending on the investigation results and if we win 10 that number could rise a few.

I think everything is still very fluid. I have no doubt that we will continue to seek new relationships. Will it be a flood of new offers, probably not, but I do believe we are still watching film on new prospects, and are looking for those under the radar guys that have blown things up their senior/junior year.

Compared to the FSU bye week.... timing is right, right now... coming off a 3-0 start and crushing UM, combined with UM and OSU's stumbles makes the MW a ripe space. If we can somehow beat FSU, then of course that week will be better, but you take advantage the now.

I think we will push the number for several reasons... one, I think we've learned to be more aggressive based on our experiences, 2 we don't know what will happen with the five currently suspended, 3 we may have some top talent wanting to jump at the end of the year, and 4, with they youth movement we may see some of the guys leaving that were passed over.

To the first question. I think that we hold here for the most part. Maybe a few offers to players like Cage for ex. Will probably visit with some new prospects and try to get them to visit. Buy some time basically. As I think at this time they are willing to roll the dice a little with whats currently on board. I also think they want to get through the Stanford recruiting weekend before making too many decisions. Ultimately I think by the second bye week we'll either have most of our commits wrapped up or we'll use that time to start looking for more.

I agree with this line of reasoning. The Stanford game is the other big week. I think the staff will know where they sit based on our record and feeling out the guys on the board.

Regarding the size of our roster, losing the guys on suspension could open up to 5 more spots. Those could be used by recruits and 5th years. That will be determined at the end of the year I suppose.

Marshall is suppose to visit however don't see anything happening there. Ross is an option and Loy thinks we land however Scott on the USC site seems confident he is all Trojan so we will see what happens. Cowart not an option in my opinion, haven't seen ND mentioned since he visited. Cager seems all Ohio State to me but that could change if their season is a dump and we offer and blow him away on a visit
Thanks for the info guys. I agree, Marshall is most likely USC. I thought Cowart seemed like a RKG + good DL from the South so I hope ND is still in consideration. I would take Gallimore on the DL too. Really want Soso, ESB, and Coney!

On this specifically I hadn't followed it recently so I got caught up with this last week. He is all UF at this point. Will visit Maryland this weekend for an OV but UF seems to have a stronger foothold than even before.

Damn it! Well, I hope UF has another 4-8 season and we make the playoffs...maybe that will change Cowart's mind!

I think we are in a good position. I want at least 1-2 pass rushers. (Gustin and Wallace (I really like Bo Wallace kid reminds me of Johnny williams 2.0)) I would like one more stud receiver (ESB) and best available (Ross and Jones or Tell). I do not think we need to extend more offers unless we do not get Soso or Brossette ( in that case a runningback). The staff set itself up really well recruiting wise this year and does not need to chase. I think at least one more linebacker possibly two.

In this on track?

Most are thinking 23-25 with a possible uptick if we have a "magical season" but what does that do for next year's class? I'm not saying we need to act like we need to turn away 5 star talent but what is the class size next year if we take 25 or 26 and return some 5th years?

I think it's reasonable to try and have equitable distribution between your classes. You don't want to take 26+ one year and be limited to 16-18 scholarships for the following year (at least I wouldn't think that'd be a good idea).

With the way the '16 class is shaping up, I wouldn't be surprised if we have a lot of interest with a top QB, top linemen, top WR and top DE already showing major interest in ND. If you get even a couple five stars on board early, it seems like a large number of recruits would take notice.

Thoughts?

I think you should take between 21-24 ever year because of potential and the numbers that either get injured or transfer or get caught cheating. This will allow us to be competitive. We also have a lot more preferred walk-ons and they are supposed to be better now. The more competition the better. Plus we are changing defensive systems right now. We need as much speed as possible right now.

You let every 5* player in regardless of depth and #'s. I know some 3* recruits pan out to be NFL first rounders BUT, we have enough this year. I agree with RYNO 24, take 20-24 every year because 4-5 end up gone before graduation.

if they have room to take 26 this year and they have 26 kids they deem worthy of being here, that want to be here, you take them. please remind me last time we didn't have a couple waiting around for the next year.

So many 5th year possibilities. The numbers could vary widely this year with so many different possibilities and quality 5th year players. Who goes to the NFL? What happens with DD and Russell, both NFL quality players with another year of eligibility. Do they get mad and jump to the NFL after this season or will they return and get stats for an entire season, then go to the NFL?

Nice update on our 2015 Commits. Was Bishop Gorman/Fertitta playing against Corona Centennial where Blake Barnett plays? IF so, I hope Fertitta picked off Barnett. I see we still don't have commits from Soso, ESB, Coney, Wallace or Bilal

Can't say I'm too excited about the first one but Coach Booker will visit Chris Clark and Christian Wilkins this week. Per II.

Maybe BK is taking out Koyack's fumble on Booker by sending him on kamikaze recruiting missions.

I'm all for trying to get Wilkins on campus and see if he fits but the last thing I want is for us to waste a second with Clark.

As good as Chris Clark might be I would rather spend all of our time and energy on Jones.

Per 24/7, most of our coaches are going out on the road starting today to recruit. Denbrock and Elston are in the Midwest, BVG hitting up Georgia, Booker in the Virgina / Maryland area, Cooks in LA (assume with Hiestand), and Alford in Florida.

No one in Texas? That's odd

Cooks may hit up Texas after LA, or BK may make a stop there - that was just the list 24/7 had confirmed.

Also remember we do have 2 bye weeks. I can guarantee if we don't hit Texas hard this week we will during the next bye.
