At this point we have to hope that Clemson, USC, and Stanford all do well since Texas is still rebuilding and GT shit the bed this year. Stanford will have to serve as our conference championship if we hope to get in. Even if the teams ahead of us are going to play each other, there's no guarantee we don't get jumped again like Stanford jumped us. Our remaining schedule doesn't do us too many favors.

You. Are. Very. Young. It's a shame you missed the Brown to Zibby era.

AMEN.

The potential for the ST is nothing compared to the time between Brown and Ismail, much less Zibby. And that is not a knock on Zibby, few people were as good as Brown or Rocket, for ND.

When will people start to realize the SEC isn't so dominant anymore? I think LSU is extremely overrated. I was watching the beginning of the Ole Miss/A&M game last night and they were being built up like it was two good teams playing. Both of those teams are average at best. If they were the same team with a different name on the front of their jerseys, they would not be ranked nearly so high.

And a very average Tennessee team has The almighty Bama on the ropes at home. 4 frickin' missed FG by the Vols ... WTF!

Miami plays Clemson and GA Tech plays FSU chaos in the ACC would help us greatly. USC beating Utah would be great as well.

Two out of three, ain't bad!

I can hardly wait for the polls.

I can't tell if I am more excited to see how ND profited on their bye week, or looking forward to see how the homers deal with their shiatsu sandwiches; Do they vote logically and give up on their homerism, or do they expose their weak sauce to the overt hypocrisy of promoting their loyalties?

Yeah I was stretching with that Miami talk. Al Golden is not exactly Mr.Reliable. All in all a very nice weekend for ND!

And we came so close on that silly Tennessee team beating Alabama. I wonder if the Tide will turn; and that the SEC exposed will suffer the opposite of promotion by defeat?

In other words, will Alabama (justifiably) be tagged for that ugly win against an unranked opponent?

Postscript : BGIF's list says no. And BGIF is bankable. But here is to hoping!

Not many critical games next week though. Kinda sucks. FL, who is ranked close behind us, will play UGA. That's about the only opportunity for a top 15 loss.

The next week...
Baylor without their QB at KSU... KSU like GT needs a redemption game.
Navy is at Memphis, so another opportunity for an ND opponent to beat an undefeated
TCU is at OK State, so one more undefeated team will go down.
Iowa is at pesky IU
MichSt is at an improving Nebraska
LSU is at Bama, so one of the teams will drop from ahead of ND (well likely...)
FSU at Clemson,,,, Either outcome I think benefits ND, but pretty sure Clemson takes care of business

ND needs to handle Pitt.

Not completely unreasonable hopes:
1). ND at 9th;
2). Ahead of us: 2 B1Gs; 2 BIG 12s; 2 SECs; Clemson; Stanford;
3). One B1G, one SEC, and one BIG 12 take care of themselves, as far as playoff is concerned;
4). We take care of Stanford;
5). That leaves one B1G, one SEC, one BIG 12, plus Clemson; one at least of whom we must get around;
6). Can B1G cannibalize, or Iowa upset?
7). Can SEC cannibalize or SEC east have the champion?
8). Can BIG 12 cannibalize?
9). Can someone else but Clemson win ACC?

The simplest solution now might be that Clemson lose the ACC. If by some wild chance PITT won it [after we win] THAT would be a sure road in.

I think ND stays put or maybe creeps up one spot.

Yup, this is where I'm at. I would love to move up 2 spots but I just don't think it will happen.
If we only move up 1 sport or stay the same I wonder who would jump us.

Yep. Both Florida and Iowa were on byes so the question is does OKst jump us or does Utah fall ahead of us. OKSt jumping seems unlikely but they are undefeated.

OK State should probably jump us. Utah is going to plummet. No chance they're ahead of us with us beating USC.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Alabama has not beaten a team with a win over a Top 25 opponent. Tennessee, Georgia, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Wisconsin have a combined zero victories over ranked teams.

On the other hand, teams we have beaten just knocked off a formerly #3 Utah and a formerly #9 Florida State. Texas has also beaten an Oklahoma team that may move into the Top 15.

Furthermore, our sole loss was against a team that may move into the Top 3 after this week. Alabama's was at home against a two-loss team that lost to Memphis.

So somebody please explain to me, why the f8ck Alabama is ranked ahead of us.

IMO, SEC bias is blown way out of proportion. Alabama bias is very, very real.

But they're undefeated. They probably should be ahead of us already.

They've beaten/played no one. Their best victories are against two mediocre big 12 teams (KSU and WVU, both very close games). They beat Texas, WVU, and KSU by a combined 12 points. Their non-conference slate includes the likes of Central Arkansas, Texas-San Antonio, and Central Michigan.

No way in hell they should be ranked ahead of ND. They've done nothing impressive at all to this point.

Alabam bias IS SEC bias. They get credit for playing in a "tough" conference when literally the entire conference is not great right now.

I was kind of hoping that fsu would win the acc, and Clemson plays their way out of the playoffs.

Because, I have absolutely no worries playing fsu in the playoffs.

Coaches Poll is out. ND #9, Utah # 14.

Jumped by Stanford. (Whatever.)

1 point behind Stanford. We should jump them after beating a ranked Temple team.
