We would jump an Iowa but Utah's resume would be pretty amazing at 12-1, especially if Michigan ends up at 9-3 or 10-2. Clemson would deserve to get in ahead of us unless they suffer a bad loss.

Best Clemson case, they go 12-0 only to lose to a two/three loss Pitt/Duke team in the conference championship. Pretty hard to put a non-champ in the playoffs.

Utah's win over Michigan is the only thing that currently makes that theoretical 12-1 "amazing". Oregon is three losses already, ASU two. They don't have a lot of ranked opponents on their schedule. USC in two weeks will be perfect timing. Stanford is not on their schedule. The Pac12 has a lot of decent teams but no great ones. Playing UCLA in late November and championship two weeks later will be their toughest test. Dropping one that late would be pretty damning. They would be best losing to UCLA and winning the championship, making a tough resume for us to pass by.

I want to make the playoffs but all this endless speculation and heartburn is unnecessary at this point. Almost every team in front of us will lose at some point this season, some more than once. We may lose at some point this season too. I'll save my outrage for when an extremely deserving 11-1 Irish team gets left out over a legitimately less deserving Big 12/B1G team.

If the Irish handle their business the rest of the way I'm very confident in our chances to make into the top 4 by season's end.

Completely agree with this.

What do you want us to do? Talk to our co-workers and families all day? Gross.

In the 10/11 AP Poll ND was 14th. Saturday 4 teams ahead of ND lost, 8 UF, 9 A&M, 12 UM, and 13 MISS.

ND was 13th in last week's poll but UM was ranked behind ND at 14th.

ND should move to 10th unless the pollsters jump Stanford (5-1)and/or Iowa (6-0)

Stanford romped over UCLA Thurs and beat USC previously by the same 41-31 ND score. Stanford's loss was to NW who have folded. ND's lone loss is to Clemson by 2 points in the monsoon.

Iowa's romped over a descending NW 40-10 and has a 3 pt win over Pitt and a 10-6 win over Wisconsin.

Irish probably be around 12. Stanford will jump ND and IMO Iowa as well.

This is where USC giving away those 2 games hurts Notre Dame. If USC was overestimated as usual, I think the win would have put ND 8-10, jumping FSU maybe Alabama as well, and staying ahead of Stanford.

It's especially cogent because BCS rankings come out week 8 right? If you're talking playoffs 8 versus 12 is a world away, after they set those first rankings it's just click up click down from there. Teams are going to lose between now and December but if ND wins out, I'd guess it will come down to Clemson/FSU versus ND for that last spot

Except the committee rankings have nothing to do with the AP Poll.

Plus, lots of teams in front us us play each other. Only one team can get out of their conference without losing. If we beat Stanford and Stanford wins the Pac 12, we're in. There are other paths, but that's the simplest.

Pitt is also undefeated in the ACC Coastal. If we beat Pitt and Pitt wins the ACC, we're in.

I see us at 9,10, or 11 this week. I don't see Iowa or Stanford jumping us. The loss to Clemson keeps looking better and better each week Clemson wins.

I think Iowa should but won't and Stanford shouldn't but will.

They will definitely be ranked. I would put them around 16.

Agreed. Maybe higher since they beat an SEC team. But it hurts them they're not in the SEC for a special quality coefficient designated for SEC teams only.

Agreed again.

I don't think we should be ahead of Florida. They are better then we are. So I would say 11 should be it.

What!?

I disagree.

So that's very subjective. I mean we all get you hate BVG and think you could teach our guys how to form tackle.

But that's you dawg.

Memphis will be there for sure. Iowa will jump ND eventually because they are going to be run the table on their "schedule."

I wish Florida would have lost by more... But they will lose again in Atlanta, so not a huge deal.

We beat this LSU team that beat them last year.

Your memory is short.

We lost to Clemson by 2 puts after a death inducing anemic fit to begin the game.

Get your head up man.

LSU has improved greatly. Did you she how awful or tackling was against OK players last night? Fournette would destroy our defense.

Bro, I've never had an issue with you.

But I do think you're depressed about more than our football team right now.

Have a good day amigo.

My eyes are on bright and I see potential in this team.

I am all good bro.

Our offense can compete with the best of them even with a Qb that's only playing good. The potential the special teams has with Sanders is as high as it ever has been. Yoon looks to have settled down nicely.

Day plays with so much heart and has an unstoppable motor. Tillery is impressive. There is some very bright spots but at the same time our defense is not good.

As it stands right now if ND wins out I see us being one of the first teams left out of the playoff. PAC 12 won't get anyone unless Utah goes without losing. Big 10 will get one team, sec will get one, TCU or Baylor one team will go undefeated, and the acc will get either Clemson or FSU.

What the fVck game were you watching? Not ND vs. USC. No way! Anyone that doesn't agree that USC has as talented of skilled players as anyone in the country needs some remedial lessons.

Sure one could argue that some guys are as talented as Jones, Williams, Jackson, and Smith-Schuster, but nobody in the country that has anything close to those horses, has a quarterback like Kessler. I love ND and Kizer, but not even the IRISH!

And you play against an offensive line that is twenty pounds per man bigger than ND's and may be as good, (but probably not as quick), without having to dig your jock out of one ear, and your cup out of the other, and then you talk!

USC is going to slaughter Utah, and Cal back to back, and be on the inside lane of Pac-12 South horserace! Wait and see!

Baylor or TCU could have a "wtf" game against Oklahoma. And Pitt could play spoiler out of the ACC Coastal. They have a pretty easy road to the conference championship game and then who knows. If Pitt can knock off Clemson or FSU and win the ACC at 11-2, that bodes very well for us

ND sits at 10th. Teams in front in the rankings have the following head to head meetings:

Baylor and TCU;
Ohio State and Michigan State;
Florida State and Clemson; and
LSU and Alabama.

ND wins out and they should move up to 6th simply as these teams play one another. Then we have upset opportunities - both Baylor and TCU have Oklahoma; Florida St has Florida; Ohio State has Michigan; Utah has USC and UCLA.

I think at 10th, ND is in reasonable position. Perfect world, FSU beat Clemson and loses at Florida, Ohio St beats Sparty and loses to Michigan, winner of TCU/Baylor loses to Oklahoma, and Utah loses to USC or UCLA (preferably USC). And this doesn't include conference championship game upsets.

Thankfully (at least in the Coaches Poll) Iowa didn't jump past ND.

In my math, ND only needs two of those upsets to happen. And the bottom line is Just Win Baby.
