Exactly how I feel.

Not including the bowl, 11 wins is a great season and a successful one. 10 wins is a good season, one we shouldn't feel was unsuccessful, but one we could've done better in.
Agree. I would be happy with a 10 win season with this team.

Through no fault of our own, our schedule just got even weaker with USC's loss. I don't think we can get in ahead of any 1 loss team anymore, unless it's a 1 loss Baylor team that lost to TCU (assuming TCU went on to lose 2 games).

ND still has Stanford to go as well, although the USC lose does hurt a lot. I think the biggest thing for ND now is not only to win (obviously), but to win big. Show the committee no team, but the top teams, can even come close to them. As we all know ND has a very difficult time not playing to the level of their opponents so we will see how that goes. I still have faith and just hope they come away with no injuries and a win against Navy. Then crush USC.

the day ND lost to Clemson was realistically the day the playoff dream died. I'd take a Big 6 Bowl game now vs a Power5 opponent

IMO you guys are underselling how hard it'll be for teams outside of OSU and one of baylor/tcu to finish with only 1 loss. 11-1 nd is in. I'll bet anyone a trillion vbuck on it. Let's see it, pussies.

2005 - 9-2 Georgia won the SEC, 2006 Arkansas made the championship game with 2 losses, 2007 winning LSU had 2 losses and their opponent Tennessee had 3 losses, 2010 So. Car had three losses (but lost), 2011 Georgia lost their first two games (and the SEC championship), 2014 Mizzou had two losses (including one to Indiana) before losing to Bama in the 'ship

That is just the SEC, you could say a 20% chance of a two loss team in the "best conference" that has had some of the more dominant teams of the last decade. We just forget it because it hasn't happened since 2007 even though there have been seven two-loss teams that have had a shot in ten year (35% of participants) - regardless of dozens of FCS schools propping up their non-conference schedules.

B1G - 2012 Wisconsin regular season finished 7-5, 2011 Wisconsin regular season 10-2, 2009 OSU went 10-2, 2008 OSU split the title with a 10-2 regular season, 2005 OSU again with a 9-2 regular season

B1G didn't have a title game for most of those years but all of those teams either won the title or split it so good chance B1G submits their Champ with 2 or more losses on the ledger at the end of the year. Not to mention their 2013 MSU champ lost to a less than impressive ND team and the 2014 OSU's loss to Va Tech should have pushed their playoff spot to a Big 12 team. Call it 40% of the time they are a two loss champ (I suspect that probability is higher now that they will play a championship game that invariably will give a shot to another team with two or more losses).

Now the PAC12 - 2014 Oregon beat 2 loss ASU, 2013 Stanford and ASU both came in with 2 losses, 2012 Stanford had 2 losses and UCLA 3, 2011 Oregon had 2 losses and UCLA was an unranked 500 team with 6 losses (finished the season with 8 losses, yikes), 2009 Oregon won with 9-2 record, 2007 USC and ASU split the title with 2 each, 2006 USC had 2 losses to Cal's 3 losses, 2005 vacated USC can suck it. - Overall, seems like over 50% chance of a two loss conference champ from here.

Too lazy to tackle the ACC right now but the probability of NO 2 loss conference champs seems a lot less than 50% to me.

I pulled this together in August for another thread.

You lose your conference championship game and you aren't going to the playoffs unless some wacky sh!t is going on. An 11-1 Notre Dame team is not getting snubbed for one of those losers.

SEC is going to cannibalize itself this year much more so than years past. B1G has more depth than years past, easy to imagine Michigan beating one of MSU/OSU and whoever comes from the other division will have a shot at beating them too. PAC12, I can't fathom Cal or Utah going undefeated, odds of a two loss champ are very good. ACC Coastal division perpetually puts a 3+ loss team in the championship game. They are bound to win one at some point and FSU/Clemson look more vulnerable than years past for sure.

If we go 11-1 we have an above average chance of making the playoffs, IMO. First thing first though, folks. Gotta win.

Now that USC just lost, we NEED Clemson to WIN the ACC, period. Our schedule looks really flimsy otherwise. Because we need that 1 loss, hopefully, to look really impressive.

That Memphis coach is gonna be a nice hire at a bigger program in the near future.

Very very true. I wish Memphis would be able to keep him, but he could be gone after this season if they have another double-digit win total.

We at least need them to lose in the ACC championship game. It would be awfully weird they had ND playing Clemson in the playoffs.

FIFY - I think this is one route we should love, an undefeated Clemson makes us look fantastic as most people know we handed them that game. If they can have an LSU/Bama rematch in a title game (no playoff) they can get behind two top teams that went to the wire in ridiculous conditions.

besides the obvious awesomeness associated with us making the playoffs (and playing a team I feel we can beat soundly)

Actually, we need them to win out, whether or not we play them in the playoffs. I think we would beat them on a neutral field.

Clemson is Clemson and it was on the road and a big game and we barely lost. IMO, we want them to lose because they're in our way. I'm still hoping GT can pull a rabbit out and win the ACC somehow.

I see them as in our way too. I'd like to see GT beat them then them win out until the ACC championship.

I thought that I'd probably be alone in the following, but maybe not: I'm hoping that GT wins over Clemson this week. THAT result would throw any thoughtful person into the conclusion that our loss was by far the funkiest of that three-cornered triage, and, since it was in horrible conditions, away, and that we out gained them, it is we who are the class of that tribe.

Then, if we sweep the rest of the season, we probably rank above any ACC team [if Clemson or GT wins it] and above any PAC-12 team, especially if Stanford wins it. ... and we're in.

Is it possible that Michigan and Notre Dame play in a bowl? That would be kind of crazy.
