9-3, plus a bowl win over a good team, setting the table for major 2015 expectations.

We absolutely need double digit wins next season. The defense will need to step back up for that to happen, and the offense has to get the red zone woes fixed.

I think Stanford is winnable, FSU will be very tough and our toughest game. Louisville and USC will be good games, but I think we will win both of those. I think ASU and Michigan could be question marks, only because Michigan is always a tough game regardless and Graham is a good coach, we could drop one of these. Purdue usually gives us fits, I think we'll perform better against them next year as well as Navy. I'm not all that worried about Rice, Cuse, Northwestern, and we should handle UNC.

Given this, I'm hoping we hit at least 10-2 regular season against a tough schedule, maybe an 11-1. Now is the time to start working that OL and RBs for a stronger run game, let Golson sling the ball with play action, and make the defense aggressive again.

As far as the playoff, I wouldn't get the hopes up. Remember that there will be a strong push for 4 conference champions to participate. I'm willing to bet that we'll need to be as good or better than whoever the ACC fields as champion for us to take part, unless a conference champion ends up with 2 or more losses from a major conference.

If Auburn rolls FSU, how will your view of the FSU game change next year?

Personally, I still think we get rolled.

If we get rolled by anyone it means we haven't progressed. I don't think we get rolled by anyone going forward. Everyone should be healthy, our offense should be more dynamic and even if our defense plays moderately better double digit wins should be easily attainable.

I don't really see this schedule as a murderers row like some people do.

They have been rolled by two teams in three years right?? Stanford three years ago and Bama...???

That's a major improvement. The next steps would include rolling teams they should more often... NOT losing the 'wtf' games... and finally winning a post season game that anyone outside of South Bend cares about... it's now been more than 20 years since that has happened.

To be fair, there have been a lot fewer WTF losses than there used to be. Pitt this year and, I guess, USF in 2011 would be the only losses I'd describe that way. The rest have been to teams of at least comparable talent.

Regardless, we need to start rolling the weaker teams on our schedule. Squeaking by the likes of Purdue and Navy is better than losing, for sure, but it hurts us in perception relative to teams that run video-game offenses but can't tackle (ahem, Baylor). Good news is the offense appears to finally be rounding into form.

Rice - W (90%)
scUM - L (50% - Really this comes down to how VanGorder does against the spread because Gardner looked godly against us this year; I'm confident they won't stop our offense)

Gardner ain't gonna be startin' next year I'm pretty sure. They got that freshmen that looked pretty snazzy in their loss to KState.

If we lose to ASU,I will forever hate ND, but for real, theres no reason we should. Also, I believe Stanford to be a possible win. We did beat MSU who went on to beat Stanford. Even when we played Stanford, we had two possibly game winning drives that ended in INT.They're good defensively but if we have the offense I think we're going to have, we should be able to get the W.

We don't talk about that game…ever.

Uh, if you think Morris starts over Gardner you are high as a kite. UM fans will say "Finally someone to compete at QB" when in reality Hokes job hangs on Gardner.

Really? I thought Gardner kinda fell off towards the end of the season and wasn't as productive. The announcers at that game definitely hinted that Morris might get the nod.

I actually agree with Irishblood here. Morris fits the O better. The seem to try to force Gardner to their O as opposed to adapt to his strengths. They have to go with what they think will win them more games and keep them employed, and thats Morris. Didn't Hoke inherit Gardner as a player and Morris is his recruit?

I was talking to a guy that owns MgoBlue....he said Gardner will start the season, but wouldnt be surprised to see Speight take over and Morris be backup. They are in a tough spot. Gardner is more than serviceable at QB, but lacks consistency in a full season, buuuut shows up in big games. Morris like you guys have said is a pro style QB, has a cannon, but has zero touch/accuracy. Hes like an advanced Hendrix. Speight is a combination of both, but will be a true frosh. Theres talent there, but no WRs.

Some people seriously think that their 3 star QB commit Speight will be starting by the end of next year? That's insane. Can't believe how little faith they have in Morris.

I thought Morris played well in the Bowl, about the only player on the team that did. Now if they could just get their OC to do play action to his throwing arm side as opposed to him doing it to the right then turning all the way around to throw with his left. It just looked odd and threw timing off.

I actually think Morris looked better than PSU's freshman QB, but I saw very little of Morris.

Are we talking on field play or physical appearance here? I know nothing about the later.

Haha. Now that you mention it, one thing I was impressed with is Morris's strength. Stands in the pocket like a senior and has a rocket for an arm.

So Gardner throws for 450 against OSU and suddenly nobody thinks he's the starter next year? What?

Morris wasn't asked to do much, he mostly threw short passes and screens. However, when he threw long he displayed surprising arm strength. Gardner's situation is interesting. Against ND and OSU, he looked absolutely incredible. He looked like Manziel - getting throws off with pressure right in his face and tight coverage. Then he looked terrible against some horrible teams and against MSU. So he's definitely not consistent but he has an elite ceiling. I think if Hoke wins less than 10 games, the seat will be flaming hot in 2015.

Can you imagine a pocket passer like Morris or Speight behind that OL without Lewan? Yikes.

I thought he lost more games for them than he won last year (won meaning he's the one that made the difference to get the W)

If his replacement holds every play like he does, they'll be fine.

Yah thats because MSU kicked the crap out of him. Borges is also the reason for that.

They will need Gardners legs to survive. I could seea hybrid. When Gardner is on his game and Borges isn't fucking it up, he is electric.

He looked good because he wasn't asked to do much. UM got ass hammered by KSU. So by good, do you mean like not as bad as Gardner vs MSU or good like Gardner vs ND and OSU?

Crazy talk!

Blame Borges. I thought our play calling was gross. But then I remember we had Tommy in the back field.

He wasn't asked to do much, but I thought he looked better than Gardner had all season if you remove the ND game and the OSU game.
