I'm not sure I understand this one. Is he saying Elmer was awful at pulling?

What horrible luck for Mahone. Good to hear Amir is doing well, he has a lot of talent.

I'm in the minority, but I love the idea of Jaylon in the middle full-time (I know, I know, it says they will move him around).

Also, if Hunter is sticking on the outside, there is a stupid crazy logjam at those positions, especially if Brent can make some noise. That's a good problem though, and I'm sure some of those "outside" WRs will be used in the slot positions plenty in 4 and 5 WR sets.

Don't like to see Lombard getting banged up again... but I DO like Hanratty getting a shot to run with the first team. I like him over Lombard at guard.

Jaylon in the middle helps disguise our weakness in the middle and allows a lot of shifting to take place pre snap from 4-3 to 3-4. Jaylon moving to middle and ishaq or Romeo dropping. Jaylon must have really made some offseason strides to be given this role as a soph.

The Bryant news is great because it seems emotion may reappear on the field this year after last years dismal lethargic demeanor.

Most of his lethargic demeanor was due to him not seeing the field. How hurt was he? Don't know.

I think irishman77 is talking about the entire team's demeanor. Not a lot of fire or passion on display last year, spare (intended) a few bowling balls from Jaylon.

Can I assume the media was allowed viewing time today? When will we see videos posted? I'm itching for some football.

Actually, moving Jaylon inside is a huge flashing beacon, telling everyone how weak we are there. Otherwise, we would not be moving an All-American type player out of position. But hopefully he can make the transition well, and anchor the middle of the defense.

could be he just did it for the media so they would pass on the notion to the world and give future opponents something to think about. I seriously doubt he spends much time playing inside.

Maybe he's going to play all over like BK said, so today he practiced the middle.

We are not moving Jaylon inside. He was playing inside as one of two LB's next to Schmidt in our sub (nickel) package. With Farley or Turner lined up over the slot.
-4 DL, 2LB's, and 5 DB's

Your not going to take jaylon off the field and versus putting him over the slot and bringing in a LB to play inside next to schmidt, they are choosing to use players with more athleticism and size to play over the slot.

In our brief viewing at the end of practice from a relatively remote area, here is what we saw:

Left Tackle
Ronnie Stanley
Hunter Bivin

Left Guard
Steve Elmer
Conor Hanratty

Center
Matt Hegarty (Nick Martin sidelined with MCL tear from November)
Matt Harrell

Right Guard
Conor Hanratty (Christian Lombard sidelined at the end with wrist injury)
John Montelus

Right Tackle
Mike McGlinchey
Colin McGovern

Tight End
Ben Koyack
Durham Smythe
Mike Heuerman

W Receiver (Boundary)
Corey Robinson
Will Fuller (sometimes Durham Smythe)

X Receiver (Field Side)
Chris Brown
Justin Brent/Torii Hunter Jr.

Slot Receiver
Amir Carlisle
or C.J. Prosise
(Hunter also will be here some because Will Mahone was seen with crutches)

Quarterback
Everett Golson
Malik Zaire

Running Back
Tarean Folston
Cam McDaniel/Greg Bryant

Wow that's really interesting. When he was coming out of HS I always saw Jaylon as a nickel slot because of the way people raved about his speed and cover skills. But those attributes will be just as important at LB in the nickel.

What's really interesting is that Jaylon came off the field on nearly every nickel package last year. That is partly him being a freshman.

Putting him on the inside for nickel packages makes a ton of sense. We were abused quite a bit there last year. Moving Jaylon around, and getting him to play inside out, will make him a much more effective player.

I totally agree. There are plenty of guys who can play nickel slot, and not so many who can play nickel LB. It's really a no-brainer.

Keep in mind that this is more about the guy on the slot. The staff is trying to see if the combo of Jaylon at ILB and Farley at N looks better than Jaylon at N and Moore at ILB. Really the staff is choosing to put Farley on the field instead of Moore, less about Jaylon. More about the other guys.

After seeing Fox and Calabrese flail around in pass coverage last year i have to say i approve of these new sub/nickel/dime packages BVG is tinkering with

He does have potential!

Seriously though, like I have been saying all spring this kid is going to have a huge season.

Yeah, but saying the starting ND TE is going to have a huge season is like saying water is wet. It's almost a foregone conclusion at this point. I remember people were worried about Troy's progress going into last season in trying to fill Eifert's shoes, and a few of us were saying "Dude, it'll be fine."
