Sykes would fit with everything said now that I've read up on what Wiltfong has been saying. Why would his family not want him to report ND interest, though? That makes absolutely zero sense. Is there some confusion between a couple of Wiltfong's statements?

There's a couple of other ILBs on the board too that could come into play. Will be interesting to watch this all develop and see what happens with Tranquill/Morgan in the meantime.

I really can't come up with a good answer for why the family wants to keep it under wraps but they do and its important to Wiltfong to comply. He even said that he may not be the first one to report it as he wants to wait until he gets the go ahead. Sykes is a Core 6 kid and the conspiracy theorist in me could come up with something from that but nothing that has any merit to it.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he has anti-ND people around him who will get riled up about ND interesti, and maybe he doesn't want any recruiting distractions until they are unavoidable? Like, if ND visits him at school, there's no avoiding some hoopla, but maybe they wanted to keep the hoopla to a minimum before his playoff game on Friday? Just guessing.

I think this could be the most realistic. I guess Montini is a pretty high quality program and they are in the midst of a playoff run. This could be similar to Don Bosco kids not taking visits until after the season. The coach and family may agree its better to wait. He's not planning on making a decision until later in the process according to what Wiltfong has reported about Nile.

Wiltfong thinks its a tight race for Lazard. Thinks it will be difficult for him to decommitt from Iowa State. Elam is most likely number 2 behind Bama. Wouldn't be shocking if Kentucky gets him. ND is ramping up contact with him and trying to get him on campus again.

What is tomorrow?

When he posted, tomorrow was Wed but when you posted tomorrow would be Thurs. Of course if you had asked this while standing on the other side of the international date line, then you're plain screwed. Stay thirsty young man.

@Jake_Brown: New #Purdue offer. Western Michigan commit RT @core6athletes: #NotreDame has also expressed recent interest in 2014 athlete Robert Spillane.

I can understand that in Kelly's first recruiting to that he had to fill spots late in the game. How come it is Still late in the race and we are offering much less talent later in the cycle? I understand that some offers just won't happen dud to academics. But now we are going to end up short again for ILB.

Getting Killed in the NC, the Manti Teo saga, and now staring at a 8-4/7-5 season completely killed any recruiting momentum we had from the 12-0 season.

It's pretty amazing actually. I asked 8 kids randomly at my school last week who was in BCS NC last year after a friend of mine said "no one even remebers Nd was in the NC". All 8 got Alabama. 3 said they played Oregon, 1 said Stanford, 1 said OSU, and the final 3 said ND. I thought that was pretty damn sad considering its a private catholic school that has 2-3 kids go to ND a year.

Maybe we actually get on Core 6's good side if we offer Sykes while the other big guys pass

I can't speak for the others but here's my view. The coaching staff builds there board (keep in mind the board at ND looks a lot different than at other schools). Send out offers, gather interest levels, go visit prospects, have prospects come to campus, etc. As that process unfolds we get some kids to committ and other kids commit elsewhere or fall off the board all together. Some kids just don't want to be at ND, that's not the staff's fault. As all this occurs we move further and further down the board sending out new offers to new prospects that fill what we are looking for. We also need to keep in mind that not all kids have great junior years, some kids are late bloomers and we see something now that we didn't see before so we start the process with them a little later than others. With the end goal filling up the available spots with the best possible fit and talent at each position. Its not an exact science and IMO this staff does a very good job for the most part.

the fact they are publicly associating with us in a positive manner (lax post) is a great start!

if we can develop good relationship with core6 and awp we can fill some holes every year with quality local kids.

imo that is what programs like bama, lsu, osu, texas and usc have always done. land their share of big fish then build depth with local quality players.

i know indiana hs fb is whack but Illinois should be better for us.

The one thing i will disagree with you on is if you at least get in with some of these prospects now you have that on your side. If you wait this Later in the cycle then you end up with average prospects that you hope you can coach up or use for depth. Yes you are right some kids won't come here like Hand and Carter we NEVER had a chance. IMO the staff needs to be more aggressive in the beginning Kinda like they have started with 2015 cycle.

Can someone answer me this, teams like Ball St., NIU, and other universities with less talent play like every down is for the win and ND plays like there's a whole lifetime of football to be played?

Football isn't everything? You know the forty year plan? Maybe the kids actually feel that way? As opposed to say Bama where if they screw the pooch they're gone the next year and a JUCO steps in to take their place. Definitely much higher stakes at those schools for many of these kids.
