Is this about where we stand with our targets?
Bo Scarbrough- Likely in 2nd with a lot of ground to make up over Bama.
Nathan Starks- Have a legitimate shot if he can qualify for ND.
Michiah Quick- Neck and neck with OU but trending towards us.
Tyler Luatua- Locked up to commit this week.
Damien Mama- still have ground to make up and prob not coming.
Thomas Holley- PSU firmly in the lead and we need to do a lot to make up ground.
Matt Elam- Bama way out in front with us in second and a lot of work to do.
Nyles Morgan- Made up some ground on the visit but have a lot more work to do to catch Ole Miss.
JuJu Smith- Neck and neck with USC but likely trending toward SC
Payton Hendrix- ND his top school and likely to commit to us after visits.
I think that's pretty close. Obviously, you left off some prospects, most notably Drue Tranquill who is still a coin flip+ to join this class.
Evaluating where we currently stand, it looks like we'll probably try to bring in ~8 more guys. The most sure bets right now are Luatua, Hendrix, and Tranquill in decreasing order of probability. So that leaves 5 spots, with nobody really close to a lock. Quick is an obvious target for one of them and we have a very solid chance at landing him.
So that would leave about 4 spots. McKenzie or another returner type guy might take one of them, but I don't think that happens if ND lands Quick. McKenzie needs to get his scores up drastically if he wants to go to any college, much less ND, so I just don't see that working out.
Smith, Morgan, Scarborough, etc. are all guys we'd love to fill out those last 4 spots with, but I don't think that's realistic. More likely than not I see us taking no RB (waiting on Starks to see how that plays out and trying to flip Bo until the end), 1 skill position player of some sort (Brown, Lazard, Sousa, Juju Smith), 1 DT type player (likely someone from the names that are just now starting to pop up), 1 ILB type player, and leaving one open spot because we always seem to do that.
Also, obviously we need to watch out for decommits. This season is trending in a bad direction and teams will continue to try to poach our recruits. Hopefully everyone sticks, but if history is any indication we're bound to lose someone somewhere along the way.
