I have been knocked for this before but.....
That tends to happen when one keeps leading with his chin.
Texas high school football is weakening and is overrated
Got some substance for that glittering generality?
The success of the UTx program isn't an accurate barometer of TX HS FB. No more that Southern Cal's struggles from '83 to '99 were a barometer from CA recruiting strength. That period spoke more about Tollner, Smith, Robinson, and Hackett than HS football. Check UF when anybody other than Spurrier or Meyer were the head coach. Or check Miami when Johnson, Erickson, or Coker (first 3 years only) weren't the head coach. Neither UF's or Miami's ups and downs were related to the state of Florida HS recruiting but rather the state of the head coaches at those schools.
I'd take a kid from Florida, Cincy area, Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area, Georgia, or California ranked near the same over a kid from Texas any day
"Any day" ??? That kind of hyperbole ruins anyone's argument.
An argument can obviously be made for FL, CA, and TX having similar talent pools but the "Cincy area", or "Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area", or "Georgia" show a serious lack of understanding of the concept of a talent pool. In a given year the #1 kid in Georgia could be the best player in America but year in and year out, the talent level isn't close. And the #5, #20, or the Nth kid is NOT comparable between GA and any of UF, CA, or TX. The deeper you go on the list the bigger the disparity.
I don't know where you picked up the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area but - it ain't so. The #5 kid in that area isn't close to the #5 kid in the State of Alabama much less FL, CA, or TX.
Here's a link to the 2012 UA FB Roster.

There's as many players from Brisbane, Australia as there is from Tuscaloosa - 1. There are more from Hyattsville, MD. Check the roster for the Atlanta Area. As for the State of Alabama that roster is heavy around Mobile Bay, Mobile, Pritchard, Spanish Fort, Foley, Daphne, etc, etc. Curiously, Southern Alabama used to be AU's feeding grounds. Saban seems to have changed that. But then Saban has a bunch of kids from the Miami Area, a couple from the Carolinas, a couple from Tennessee, and even, dare I say it, 3 from TEXAS! What can Saban be thinking? Doesn't he read your posts?
BTW, on that UA Roster they list the Castille kid as Birmingham but he goes to school at Briarwood, a Christian school in North Shelby County. They list another kid from Oak Mountain that also in North Shelby County, as is Hoover's Spain Park HS.
Is that UA Roster an anomaly? No. Tuscaloosa/Birmingham has provided some talent over the years but it's not a hotbed. At least not according to the Alabama Sports Writers Association which has been picking the
Alabama Super 12 (Best Players in the State regardless of School Division) for the past 30 years. Here's a link to their site and their choices for those 3 decades:
