Seems pretty obvious that they want him to get game action so he can take Z.Martin's spot next season.

For sure. And that is not even counting Mike McGlinchey developing. He has the highest ceiling of any ND lineman IMO.

I was thinking the same thing the other day (or was it a month ago?). I was also thinking that the defense would be very young. Funny to think that we may be consistently high scoring that year, and out of some necessity possibly. Man, too much free time and too excited for football!

It seems as though that is the route it was going. I still think all along that the staff is just trying to get Shumate to speak up a little more and be vocal. I think that happens by midway through the season. SS is his job for the next couple of years they just need him to view it as such.

Colinsworth isn't a sexy pick for safety, but he's been a monster on kick off coverage, IMO. I think he'll do just fine.
