Kelly has a different definition of experience than I do for the CBs.

Really? Do tell.

Kelly seemed to judge experience by how much time someone has been in the program as opposed to how much time they've been on the field.

Also Kelly mentioned Josh Atkinson before Lo wood when talking about corners. IDK if that meant anything.

Well guys, this is it! Notre Dame Football 2012 kicks off today with the interview at noon. It's been a long off-season, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. will get here faster than you think. I'm super stoked about this years team, especially with Golson probably being the starting quarterback.

So here is to a great, injury free season. I hope we all get along during the season!

GO IRISH!

I'm just a guy in a diner, but, I watched that clip, and I have seen this before, and I am convinced that with Kelly, everything is how you practice. I am guessing, but he feels these guys have played against just about as good of talent as they are going to see, (with a few exceptions) and that if they don't have it, they ain't gonna get it magically in a game. Look at the way he designs his 3 "A's". Which go a long way to explaining the way he handled Carlo and Tommy. It all fits. It is time in the program; (equals maturity.)

This fits with his even mentality comments. He gives no credibility to emotion carrying teams to victory. And most of the players that have not been offered fifth years describe themselves as gamers; which means they have a problem day in and day out in practice.

This day in and day out mentality was manefested last year in Michael Floyd. It was probably a big part of his salvation, and the connection between Floyd and Kelly. Remember, Kelly wasn't really sold on Floyd when he first came to ND.

If this is true, it explains a lot about the progress of players and the team as a whole. We could come up with a half a hundred examples.

GREAT SENTIMENT RYAN! Lets make this the year to get along.

I agree with your assessment, but also think that Kelly was trying to play up the time that the CBs spent playing special teams as well. It seems that he was trying pretty hard to be optimistic about a position that has been, aside from QB, the largest question mark on the team this off season. I'd say the talent is there, so I hope BK's optimism is warranted.

This fits with his even mentality comments. He gives no credibility to emotion carrying teams to victory. And most of the players that have not been offered fifth years describe themselves as gamers; which means they have a problem day in and day out in practice.

Aside from Brandon Newman, I don't recall any of the fifth years that were not asked back describing themselves as "gamers." In fact, I would find that somewhat ironic given that most have described Crist as being quite the opposite; which is a sentiment that I share.

I'm also not sure that I'd buy into the idea that all the ones that left had a problem practicing. In Ragone's case, it seems that he just wanted to go to Kansas. If I recall, he probably practiced well enough since I think we wanted him back.

I don't care what recruit we bring in, they will have a hell of a challenge surpassing josh Atkinson on the depth chart at cb. Gonna be special.

Notre Dame's 2012 Football Practices and Media Schedule.

• There will be 20 practices that the team will have had prior to the start of the fall semester on Tuesday, Aug. 21. During that time, there will be four double days, with practices in the morning and afternoon: Friday, Aug. 10, Monday, Aug. 13, Wednesday, Aug. 15 and Friday, Aug. 17.

• Interestingly, when the school year starts on the 21st, the Irish will practice that morning from 6:45 to 8:30. It will also practice from 6:15 to 7:30 in the morning on Aug. 22 and 6:45 to 8:30 on Aug. 23rd. Mornings are when Notre Dame held practice the last two springs.

• Notre Dame also will have morning sessions from Monday Aug. 27 through Wednesday Aug. 29 before embarking later that evening for the trip to Ireland. It will be interesting to see whether morning practices become the norm during the fall semester — one of the questions that Kelly will be asked at his noon conference today.

• The media will be allowed to view four practices. The first will be the opener on Aug. 4, confined to the first 20 minutes. Aug. 8 will be the one day it will be allowed to view the entire session, although cameras must be off after the first 20 minutes. It will also be permitted to view the first hour on Aug. 11 and Aug. 16, with the cameras again off after the first 20 minutes.

• Another new twist is the assistant coaches will be allowed to meet with the media only once in August, that coming on Media Day on Aug. 16. Head coach Brian Kelly is scheduled to be available about every third practice or so. From Aug. 21 through Aug. 27, requested players will be available one time.

• Last year the starting quarterback wasn’t announced until the first day of classes began on Aug. 23, or about a week and a half prior to the opener. Whether that will be a target day again this year is uncertain, but Kelly has repeatedly stressed that it will take time.

• With incumbent Tommy Rees suspended for the Sept. 1 opener — although he will be able to practice — this will mark the first time since 1972 that the incumbent starting QB at Notre Dame will see someone else who has never started take the first snap in the opener. Cliff Brown started the last seven games of 1971, but was beaten out by sophomore Tom Clements for the 1972 opener (Clements could not play in 1971 because that was the last year of freshman ineligibility).

• On the trip to Dublin, Notre Dame will practice on Wednesday morning Aug. 29 from 6:15 to 7:30 before attending classes and then getting on the plane at 6:45 p.m. It is scheduled to arrive in Ireland at 7 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 30. Notre Dame will hold practice that afternoon from 12:15 to 1:50 and a short one on Friday, Aug. 31 (12:30 to 1:15). Kickoff is the next day at 2 p.m. Dublin time

Anybody know where the press conference will be shown online? I'll be traveling around 12pm and wanted to at least listen to it on my phone. Thanks in advance.

Irish Illustrated‏@NDatRivals

For those curious, Davonte Neal listed at receiver and KeiVarae Russell list at running back.

Freshman WR Justin Ferguson listed at 6-foot-2, 196 pounds

Freshman WR Chris Brown listed at 6-foot-2, 172 pounds

First media guide we've got our hands on: Davonte' Neal listed as No. 16. Amir Carlisle No. 3. Certainly subject to possibly change

Where's militaryirish when you need him?! This silverlight software isn't working for me at all. Apparently I already have a better version.
