Kelly feels comfortable with 4 CBs: Bjax Wood atkinson & McDaniel, not Brown
He knows Jalen has talent, I really think he is trying to light a fire under him. That's a serious public knock on Jalen.
He tried to clarify his comment about having an idea which QB was going to win the job. BK was trying to say that he had an idea who had used the summer to best position himself to win the starting QB job, but that's meaningless unless it translates to progress in the fall practices. So, the QBs will split reps fairly evenly to start and as they continue to separate from one another, the reps will mirror that separation.
He was also asked whether the intent is for the Navy game starter to be the starter for the entire season. Initially, he responded that he'd love to see that QB play really well and take over. A few lines later, though, he seemed to backtrack (unless I misunderstood him), saying something like: "I'd love the first-game starter to do really well and give us a difficult decision going forward." Maybe a faint glimmer of hope there if you're Tommy Rees.
Another comment worth expanding on: Kelly's comment about being very pleased with Golson's progress was in response to a question about whether he'd matured in his work habits. It was worded something like: "Coach, in the past, it's been no great secret that Everett Golson has taken some time to figure out just what he needed to do off the field to become a quarterback. How do you feel about his progress in that regard this summer?"
I didn't see this comment posted in the live updates: Kelly mentioned that Hendrix has everything he needs to compete at the highest level, he just thinks Hendrix needs more reps.
There's supposed to be a full transcript going up today.
The biggest gainers were Jordan Prestwood (up 11 pounds to 295), Tony Springmann (up 10 pounds to 300) and Chase Hounshell (up 10 pounds to 275). Other significant weight room improvements came from Stephon Tuitt (up eight pounds to 303), John Goodman (up eight pounds to 215) and Troy Niklas (up eight pounds to 260).
Overall, the Irish list a dozen scholarship players over 300 pounds, a group that includes the entire starting offensive and defensive lines, assuming Mike Golic Jr. wins the right guard spot over Nick Martin.
The biggest freshman is offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley at 6-foot-6, 304 pounds with Jarron Jones close behind at 6-foot-5, 299 pounds.
...
Suddenly our need for a 2nd RB recruit this cycle becomes crystal clear.

Once my wife wakes up (my daughter is a HORRIBLE sleeper so it was my wife's turn to have a relatively sleepness night with the baby, so she's making up for it now), I'm headed out to the campus just tto see what it's like with the players after practice and all the media and all that. It'll be interesting to see how close I can actually get...
