Eifert is up to 260 pounds

Eifert is also one of the hardest workers on the team

He didn't specifically say not Brown. He said the other 4 and then some time passed and brought Jaylen's name up as one that's competing for a spot also.

He tried to clarify his comment about having an idea which QB was going to win the job. BK was trying to say that he had an idea who had used the summer to best position himself to win the starting QB job, but that's meaningless unless it translates to progress in the fall practices. So, the QBs will split reps fairly evenly to start and as they continue to separate from one another, the reps will mirror that separation.

He was also asked whether the intent is for the Navy game starter to be the starter for the entire season. Initially, he responded that he'd love to see that QB play really well and take over. A few lines later, though, he seemed to backtrack (unless I misunderstood him), saying something like: "I'd love the first-game starter to do really well and give us a difficult decision going forward." Maybe a faint glimmer of hope there if you're Tommy Rees.

Another comment worth expanding on: Kelly's comment about being very pleased with Golson's progress was in response to a question about whether he'd matured in his work habits. It was worded something like: "Coach, in the past, it's been no great secret that Everett Golson has taken some time to figure out just what he needed to do off the field to become a quarterback. How do you feel about his progress in that regard this summer?"

I didn't see this comment posted in the live updates: Kelly mentioned that Hendrix has everything he needs to compete at the highest level, he just thinks Hendrix needs more reps.

There's supposed to be a full transcript going up today.

If I remember correctly he said I feel comfortable with four corners, u saw Atkinson, Jackson & McDaniel flying around at the Spring game and of course Lo Wood last year had experience and an int. Jalen Brown is also competing and needs some work.

Something like that

It doesn't sound like McDaniel will be moving back to RB/ Z WR yet. So now that we know Russell will start his career at CB, let's reexamine our RB/ Z WR depth:

Toma and Riddick will exhaust their eligibility this season. Odds are good that Wood declares for the draft. Roberson will likely take a medical. And James' verbal is about as tenuous as they come, meaning...

We may only have four scholarship players at RB/ Z WR for 2013. This is a position group from which we'll almost always be fielding 2, and occasionally 3, players.

Suddenly our need for a 2nd RB recruit this cycle becomes crystal clear.

Whiskey, you could find a sows ear in a silver lining! What! Who! Me! Yes you!

Don't sweat it.

Did you see the way Kelly's eyes lit up when they asked him about Brown, Ferguson, and Neal?

I rated it second most animated to his point about the best players, being the hardest working, and the best leaders, Eifert and Teo.

Kelly did not show a specific weakness on the part of Golson or Hendrix when asked.

Kelly emphaticlly indicated that Golson had put in the work and was on the path. I don't remember the question but it had to do with grades, learning the offense, and leadership. And Kelly's answer is he made it clear that Golson was "there."

Kelly did not have a bad thing to say about anybody, any quarterback, even Tommy. On the basis of the way he talked up his players, I would even like to play for Kelly.

Kelly made an important comment about how he would get frustrated with progress, and that was his desire to move things along and win. Not an indicator of the state of the program. Really big point. I wish I could remember the context more clearly.

I see the transcript is up online, any word on whether they would have audio/video of it? I don't feel like reading it.

The biggest gainers were Jordan Prestwood (up 11 pounds to 295), Tony Springmann (up 10 pounds to 300) and Chase Hounshell (up 10 pounds to 275). Other significant weight room improvements came from Stephon Tuitt (up eight pounds to 303), John Goodman (up eight pounds to 215) and Troy Niklas (up eight pounds to 260).

Overall, the Irish list a dozen scholarship players over 300 pounds, a group that includes the entire starting offensive and defensive lines, assuming Mike Golic Jr. wins the right guard spot over Nick Martin.

The biggest freshman is offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley at 6-foot-6, 304 pounds with Jarron Jones close behind at 6-foot-5, 299 pounds.

I've been enjoying the NFL networks live coverage of training camps. We need this.

Brad Carrico goes on medical scholarship and is no longer on the active Irish roster, ending his ND career. Believed to be a foot injury.

This morning. Media has access for the first twenty minutes.

10 to 12:15.

Once my wife wakes up (my daughter is a HORRIBLE sleeper so it was my wife's turn to have a relatively sleepness night with the baby, so she's making up for it now), I'm headed out to the campus just tto see what it's like with the players after practice and all the media and all that. It'll be interesting to see how close I can actually get...

Notre Dame running cierre wood not participating in drills doesn't look serious though...
