@jwgiglio: Football coach Tom O'Brien out at N.C. State

I realized he wasn't happy at BC with the Administration but never understood the move to NCS. It's a .500 historical team used to being buried in the NC state rankings much less the conference or national scene.

O'Brien was a little better than NCS's usual record but like Amato not enough. In the past 90 years Lou Holtz with a .700 record and Dick Sheridan with . 630 record are the only coaches who raised performance significantly. Holtz moved on to ARK and Sheridan retired citing health issues.

NCS needs to upgrade more than it's coach.

I have this weird fealing that my Eagles hire Chip Kelly and then trade for Colin Kaepernick. Hope it doesn't happen.

...

Anyone think Kiffin is on the hot seat? I think hell get another year. Though, he has been outcoached consistently all season, his team undisciplined, and his dad really not helping his cause.

Kiffin is polarizing, love him or hate him, guy. The love him's will rationalize the sanctions, injuries, and tough schedule (Sagarin #6 toughest, Sagarin also has SC as his #16 ranked team despite 5 losses). The hate him's will point to Kiffin's previous jobs and note disasters seem to follow him.

Haden should have a Search Firm on retainer.

HAHA! Sorry to laugh, but you really think the 49ers would trade Kaep?

My nightmare is Coach D heading west if Lame is shown the door. Tell me it can't happen, please.

Yikes! Thats a school I could see going after Diaco or Alford. What do you think?

I could definitely see that happening. While I think Diaco is a great fit at Purdue (defense), I doubt he would consider it. IMO if Diaco bounces, it's for a big name, big history, that's down and out. Alford on the other hand, I could see jumping to a school like Purdue.

And no, I don't think Diaco would go to a USC type rival. But,,, stranger things have happened. I could see him being attracted to Auburn, but doubt their alumni and boosters want an assistant type candidate.

I was thinking either one would more than likely have to do some time as HC at a school like Purdue before they would be considered for something really big.

Lol it won't. Even if it did, as good as Coach D is, I wouldn't fear that at all. He's never been a head coach at a program like that. Don't mistake the apprentice for the master.

I think Ferentz is out at Iowa and since Coach Diaco is an alum that is where I think the most likely head coaching job for Diaco. Even though I don't want to see him go.

Per a Kentucky friend:
Kentucky's top 5 candidates for new football coach in order:
Butch Jones (Cincinnati)
Gary Anderson (Utah State)
Philip Fulmer(Fmr. Tennessee) Cats fans rolling over in their graves
Mike MacIntyre (San Jose State)
Chad Morris (Clemson OC)

Diaco and Alford are our "Grudens". Our imaginations will have them going everywhere.

Doubt it. A lot of money would have to be eaten by Iowa to do that.

I wouldn't be worried yet about Diaco leaving. There are coaches like Strong (I think he may be the next coach at Auburn, just my gut feeling), FSU's Stoops, Mullen, Petrino who will all look to move up or come back and I don't think Diaco will go to a crumy school. Now if Strong leaves Louisville that may be a nice starting point for diaco or he could go back to Cincinati if Jones left. I think the worst thing about losing Diaco would be who he would take with him to the new school. I wonder if he would take Alford as his OC and Bob Elliot as his DC as that would hurt.

The only way Alford and Elliot would leave is if they were offered a head coaching job. Leaving Notre Dame just to be a coordinator at a small school makes no sense to me

All i can say is that he has been on the wrong end of some of the heated conversations with BK. To me that is a very bad sign.

He's very young. This is his first year as a true coach. I expect significant improvement next year and moving forward.

You're not going to get many head coaching jobs, at least somewhat good ones, if you aren't a coordinator so someone like Alford who seems to aspire to be a head coach may want to help his resume. Elliot is pretty old and has been around so I don't think he is going to get many offers as a head coach and why wouldn't you want to help one of your friends as he is starting out/get a promotion.

What do you define as a small school? Diaco won't go to a small school he would probably only leave to go to a middle of the pack one like Cincinati or Louisville if they came open. Those aren't small schools by any means. They both consistently compete for Big East titles. As was said earlier you're not going to get a BCS competitor at the beginning
