Graduated 2016

Did Tim Kempton's kid get there before you graduated? If so, I bet you got some good Irish stories out of him. I saw him play in HS numerous times. He went to IE member WhiskeyJack's alma mater, Brophy Prep.

Cole Teal who I know you had to play with went to one of my big conference rivals in HS, Chesterton, IN. He played with one of my best friends' kid there so I had to follow his team.

Come on Tyree, you'll have an incredible line to run behind. Play on the national stage every week with a team on the rise.

that is huge. Tyree is the cornerstone with either coleman murphy or edwards and we would be in great shape

Was Brian Dohn's Alpha Dog at UA's AA Camp in Baltimore today.

ALPHA DOG

This was a tight competition for the best of the day, but in the end it was five-star all-purpose running back Chris Tyree of Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale who earned the honor. Tyree, who is the No. 1 all-purpose back and the No. 30 overall prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, was good in every facet. His hands were strong, going through drills he was quick, and when it came time for one-on-one competition, forget about it. Trying to cover Tyree in space was a no contest for defensive backs and linebackers throughout the day, and he capped it off by running precise routes and being sure-handed. With a final three of Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Alabama, Tyree is nearing a decision.

"The Golden Jet" is gonna be so fun to yell when he rips off a 75-yarder to open the season against FSU in 2021.

Probably going to visit Bama too. Dohn thinks they're the real threat. https://247sports.com/college/notre...uiting-Notre-Dame-Alabama-Oklahoma-131637260/

Charles Huff. There’s no position coach in the country that’s got a longer or better relationship than Huff with Chris Tyree. He had Tyree visit Mississippi State unofficially several times and he’s been to Bama since Huff moved to Tuscaloosa. Been saying for a while that Bama would be a player in his recruitment if they want him. If they actually don’t recruit over him or like prospects better than him then it could be difficult to overcome that relationship. I’ve got full confidence in Lance Taylor and the fact that Sam Adams II, EJ Smith, Keyvone Lee, Daniyel Ngata, Kendall Milton, Demarkcus Bowman, and Zachary Evans are all being recruited by Bama and maybe some or a lot of them are ahead of Tyree on their board. No idea how their board is though.

It’s sad, really. We want to sign this talented football player but are uneasy by other schools and the mutual interests, yet at the same time other schools like Alabama and Oklahoma may sign runningbacks as good or better. It’s almost like Tyree is a consolation for them. Whereas Tyree would be our highest ranked offensives playmaker commit since... Michael Floyd?

I get it. We all do. Alabama and Oklahoma can recruit better, they don’t have the admission hurdles and they have the proven track record of winning and sending players to the NFL. I just find it laughable, that many on this board, and I am including myself too, wish that the other schools recruiting Tyree, the legitmate threats, fill up their classes with top end talents, so as the competition and depth may tempt Tyree to look at Notre Dame as a serious option.

A thing not mentioned too much on boards is cash. That is in no way to say Chris Tyree is taking money or getting money in any way shape or form. I’m not starting a rumor like that or even going there. I’m mentioning that a well known fact is that schools that are the so-called football factories are loaded with booster cash and can grab the top end talent that ND simply can’t and won’t. You could add cash to academic hurdles and winning and NFL as reasons why recruits are picking schools that don’t include ND. There are reasons why kids are saying academics are sooo important to them and then do a 180 and end up at Tech U Tech State University for Kids who can’t read good. I would love to be a fly on the wall in Baton Rouge for the last few weeks of recruiting where a school has been able to reel in 3 5* recruits to go along with 4 4*’s with some of them being on their first visits to campus while being heavy leans to somewhere else. Makes you wonder what is going on down there. The long of it is that ND faces an uphill battle when it comes to recruiting but all they can do is work their tails off, hire an amazing recruiting staff (this is the best staff BK’s has while at ND for recruiting), and try and land as many top end kids as possible. I hope Tyree is one of them and that relationship with Huff is going to be hard to overcome. Alabama and Oklahoma are two of the toughest teams to go recruiting against you can find so it’ll be a dog fight until the end.

I mean, we have more recruiting star talent on our roster than Oklahoma as of last year (the last time 247 tabulated it.) It was really close (10 vs 11) but it’s not like they’re living in a different world than us. Bama is but honesty we’re not Bama and that’s not a shock to anyone.

If Bama signs Tyree, I'll hate them more than ever. He should be Irish and give us an RB to run behind this hulking OL.

I suppose, though I tend to think cash is a bigger difference-maker for kids who are deciding between, say, Ole Miss and Auburn. The guys who are serious about Notre Dame, broadly speaking, seem less likely to be swayed by what is usually, in the grand scheme of things, pretty small money. Also I suspect we, too, have people who have ways of quietly helping a kid out, within reason of course.

Not to say we never get “outbid,” if you will. And there are lots of kids who pay lip service to academics when they’re taking visits and then go to Can’t Read U in the end. I just think if we make it to a final two or three with a recruit, they’re usually shopping down a different aisle than the one stacked with Benjamin’s.

Is it possible that the "4 for 40" sales pitch doesn't work on an elite RB, who is coming out of high school with the thought that they are 3 years and onto the NFL? If they think they are bound for the NFL anyway, then maybe they don't care about that pitch and we should re-evaluate.

Under BK we’ve never had a better RB NFL argument than right now. They’ve got a coordinator who uses RB’s liberally. RB’s are asked to do many different things like blocking, receiving and running obviously. On top of that we’ve got a proven RB recruiter who develops NFL talent like Christian McCaffrey and Bryce Love and oh yea, worked in the NFL last year. Oh and we don’t have a lot of talent at the position and one of the most talented olines in the country. Pretty good NFL sales pitch.

The problem is that our primary competition for Tyree is two teams with considerably better records with RB's in recent history.

Alabama has had 9 RB's drafted in 9 seasons, including 3 first rounders and only 1 of those 9 were outside of the first 3 rounds.

Oklahoma has Adrian Peterson, Demarco Murray and Joe Mixon all fresh in the minds of the youngins.

ND doesn't have the draft or NFL stat history that either squad possesses.

Of course, I still think we land Tyree, since I think the coaching situation is the best it's been in a while offensively and I think the avenue to make an immediate impact is best at ND.

We should then point out how many 4-5 stars both those teams have gotten over the past 9 seasons. ND has signed maybe one RB that was rated that high? Maybe? I bet Bama and the Sooners have signed 12+

Here's the RB rankings Bama signed in descending order, just in the past 7 years:

2019 - 1/12
2018 - 12/14
2017 - 1/8
2016 - 2/11
2015 - 1/15
2014 - 2 Ath - Bo Scarbrough
2013 - 1 Ath/1/7

Oklahoma:

2020 - 4
2019 - 2/19
2018 - 4
2017 - 12/16
2016 - 15
2015 - 4
2014 - 1/14
2013 - 3

Notre Dame:

2019 - 24
2018 - 26/68
2017 - 19 (CJ Holmes- gone)/69 WR - Armstrong
2016 - 14/48 (Mcintosh - gone)
2015 - 11 (Dex)/ 26 (Adams)
2014 - whiff
2013 - 6 (RIP GB)/10 Folston (injury)

You tell me which team has the clearer path to playing time. Not to mention our OL recruiting is at least as good as any team in the nation.

There is a clear fact at RB: Sign top talent, produce top talent. Kelly & staff have done remarkably well given the level of players we've signed. It'd be great to see a couple of our guys eat the yards this year.

I still think you need to at a minimum present the 40 year decision as the life expectancy of an NFL player is around 3 years. RB's may be less than that. Someone else may already know.
