If they didn't want him to go before the bowl game they probably should have waited till after the Gator to tell him they're bringing in a transfer. Pyne was obviously fine being #2 to start the season and it worked out well for him. Bringing in a transfer told him "You're not seeing another snap here." I'm not saying that's wrong, I like having Hartman. I'm saying Drew made the best decision finding a landing spot given that information and ND was going to survive regardless. Nobody should be upset.
To be clear I got over it right quick when we won the Gator Bowl.

Drew's cousin with his first D1 offer (class of 2028!) . Father is Jim Pyne, former NFL Center.

Class of 2028 is a … seventh grader. Kid should jump on it and commit now.

VT is his pop’s alma mater hence the ridiculously early offer. Maybe they need a new practice facility donation or something

Each play was that bad in its own way.
I will say though, Rees did his job in that phone call. Pyne was never that incompetent again all season.
For sure, I loved the passion. Pyne knew he screwed up but Rees delivered the message. "The whole *ucking team is counting on you."

Calm down and execute.

I mean he forgot what a hot route is versus a 2nd half blitz....

It was his first start. He had some much better games in the following weeks, and he had a few more bad ones too. The staff did a pretty good job minimizing his limitations to get 9 wins though.

Oh yeah, look at those plays. None of them are complicated. None of them require anything special in terms of reads or waiting for a play to develop. Short toss to the all-world TE in the flat, handoff in shotgun and an easy seam to that same all-world TE who was wide open.

That was the 3rd ND drive of the game and he flat looked like he couldn't do *anything*. At that point, it looked his limitations were ... everything a QB could be asked to do. I have no idea how they got him to simply not suck as hard as humanly possible.

I know this has been gone over, but he never should’ve been recruited to Notre dame. Same with Clarke. That’s probably my biggest problem with Rees and Kelly

It has been gone over. It remains true. Taking Pyne and Clarke back-to-back created an enormous hole in the QB room. Jurkovic not panning out didn't help matters. Blame whoever you want for all that, but last year's QB problems were years in the making (and we were smart/fortunate the year before to bring in Coan). Hopefully they have things straightened out going forward.

Yeah, that was a display of true incompetence. Combination of the moment being too big and just a limited guy who couldn't get out of his own way.

Truly remarkable we finished with 9 wins.

It sure seems like Kelly was all about grabbing low hanging fruit here. Fortunately Rees landed 3 great talents at QB before he left.
