Mike Farrell on Rivals said Pyne did not do well at the event. He also said that he and Bryce Young are ranked too high. WTF Is he blind?

Yeah that's weird. I heard the only little issue he had was adjusting to the speed of the receivers compared to what he normally throws to. Was a touch behind or a touch short at times, but they said his mechanics, feet and arm strength looked very solid. I'm not worried one bit. 2 years to grow and develop before he even sets foot on campus.

I had a couple of live feeds on the big screen throughout the day. He did NOT struggle until the 7v7 Championship and there, I thought his receivers let him down with shockingly lazy routes. If he was playing with BOOM 7v7 instead of the invited All American's, they would have trucked everyone.

Bryce Young IS rated too high. If you can't run like Kalil Tate, don't be a 5-10 QB.

The only guy I can think of who matched Pyne at this age is JT Daniels and Pyne's release is even quicker and more effortless.

The good news about growing is: Except for his brother (6-0), the Pyne's are a bunch of big boys. Might have a spurt left in him.

The bad news: Mom appears to be an lil elf.

The way Ian Book played yesterday is exactly how I expect Pyne to play in college, but with a bigger arm.

Not an expert scout obviously but seems to me that Brian Kelly and Chip Long have gone three straight classes with pass-first QB’s who can also run as oppose to Brandon Wimbush. Phil Jurkovec, Brendan Clark, and Drew Pyne all seem to put up numbers in the passing game in high school and seem like prolific throwers of the football. I’m not sure if Brandon Wimbush was in high school (I know he was a stud, but was he a prolific passer?). Here’s a look at passing yards in high school for these QB’s with their yards per game in parentheses. Anyone have any thoughts as to if BK and Long have shifted a little in their prospects or no? Would love to know

Phil Jurkovec - 8202 (241.2)
Ian Book - 7632 (206.3)
Drew Pyne - 5439 (194.3)
Brendan Clark - 5404 (158.9)
Brandon Wimbush - 2702 (158.9)

Well, BW had like unreal numbers in completion percentage while in high school. He almost broke the national record if I'm not mistaken.

But it's also important to point out that Chip Long didn't recruit BW (nor Ian book for that matter). I believe Sanford was the OC during that time. So idk if I would say that Chip has changed his idea of QB

And he was throwing the ball to Minkah Fitzpatrick...which couldn't hurt as he probably grabbed everything thrown his way.

Not sure Minkah Fitzpatrick was why he almost broke the national record for completion percentage. There are a lot of good QB's that have really good athletes to throw to, at the HS level, and obviously don't put up those numbers. It just didn't translate to the next level. It's a bummer but certainly happens. I don't think we need to start giving BW's previous successes to other individuals because of it.

Common trait amongst Book, PJ, and Pyne is a quick release. All get the ball out quickly. Obviously necessary if the offense is going to look like it did on Saturday.

Sanford is the reason Book is here. He had a previous relationship with him and pushed hard for IB to come to ND.

Got thumped today, 34-0, in the state championship game. (I only know this because my cousin's kid plays for the team that did the thumping). No idea how Pyne played, but looked like he had a good season. Get 'em next year (and the four years after that) Drew.

Cornelius Johnson if from Greenwich, but doesn’t go to Greenwich High. He goes to the all boys private school in town Brunswick Academy.

Can anyone name the former Notre Dame player during the Charlie Weis and Ty Willingham era who went to Greenwich high school?

Can anyone name the hall of fame QB who went to Greenwich high school?

Rich man's Ian Book? 16-17 year old Drew Pyne can already make throws that 20 year old Ian Book failed to make this past season. I don't know if that says more about Pyne or Book, or both?

Overall, I think Notre Dame is set for the next 5-8 years with Phil and Drew.

very impressive looking film!!! nice moving around the pocket, able to throw darts on the run, throws where his receiver will be instead of wr needing to make a play on it....liked the way he used the shoulder fake

Not sure I've seen his film before.

He doesn't have the strongest arm, which before watching Tua/Lawrence go at it I would have said was overrated in CFB. But I think that's a bigger limiting factor now than I previously thought.

But he has fantastic feet for a HS'er, he moves in the pocket better than some CFB seniors. And you can tell he's a competitor, seems like a football player and not just a QB. Seems very accurate too, but they're highlights so of course all of the throws will be accurate.
