Well this just seems to confusing. So, we landed a guy in the 19' cycle you love and we haven't even hit OV season for the 20' cycle, but RB recruiting is a joke? Seems like an overreaction.
Kyren saved us last year. Before Kyren committed, we didn’t seem to have traction with any RB recruit (besides Kyren). If he would’ve decided to go somewhere else, I don’t know what they would’ve done.
I’m certainly not writing anything off. You’re right, there is still a long way to go before NSD. But I haven’t heard of anyone trying to schedule an OV to South Bend. Tyree is a pipe dream and Robinson is look like one as well. At the current moment, running back recruiting is average at best. With the way Notre Dame recruits the o-line, Notre Dame should be hitting it out of the park with running backs.
And one guy, Kyren Williams, does not make up for the lack of playmakers the staff has been able to get in the backfield in recent years. The 2018 guys are unproven and it’s early, so I won’t say anything on that. The 2017 guys, Armstrong and Davis, come from different positions so I can’t say “Yeah, that was a good running back recruit victory”. 2016 was Tony Jones and I’m not sure we can call him a success or not, the jury is still out. We have to go all the way back to 2015 when we landed Dex and Adams. We can label both of them as studs and big recruiting wins. Since 2016, the staff has not landed much at running back. I’m not counting Holmes or McIntosh.
