Nobody returns kicks on this team...

But I did not know about the dropped pass. I’m wondering more about carries.

I think it’ll still be

Tony Jones Jr
Jahmir Smith
C’Bo Flemister
Kyren Williams

Hopefully TJJ gets fewer carries this week and Smith, Flemister and Williams get lots of work against New Mexico. It’d be nice to see who the #2 will be against UGA and if they can get a change of pace back. We’ll see.

It's my Pollyanna belief that Coach "did not involve him" on offense after the dropped pass (he REALLY looked downfield casually --- as Coach would say "without attention to detail") because this was a "teaching moment" that Kelly wanted to stick.

My fantasy hope is that this is all it is (no "doghouse") and he will see significant snaps in the next game, and there will be no more premature looking downfield or other high school jazzed up errors. I believe that this back is the one who will actually give us a 100-yard game threat consistently some time in the future --- this year maybe not, but soon.

It's my dream and I'm sticking to it.

I know he dropped a pass but, if Williams has the skills as advertised, it’d be crazy not to give him a legit shot.

Jones and Smith are solid but limited speed. C’Bo is faster but looks like he weighs 150 lbs. Williams appears closest to the complete package at RB and should at least get into the rotation.

Also: Wasn’t there talk during camp of KAR or Cam Hart moving to RB? I know they’re freshmen, but anything doing there?

What’s done is done but I really wish they hadn’t tossed CJ Holmes.

This is exactly what happened.

No way KAR Or Cam Hart go to RB this year. They are both very thin, need time with Balis and only one of them could potentially make that move: KAR

We still have 4 RBs who've been training at the position. That's enough assuming we don't have another two dinged up. KW will get more chances in this next game, he better step up because Kelly and Long need him to show like he did in fall camp.

4 years of Dex Williams ring a bell?

Irish coaches have a window of opportunity this past week and next week to give ALL the RBs a shot at sharing carries w/ TJJ. Even if it happens to be a true freshman. Give him first team reps in practice and give him some live game reps vs NM.

I suspect the main concerns are ball security and pass blocking but we see plenty of P5 teams rolling w/ true freshmen at RB. Time to roll the dice or ND will be one-dimensional on offense when they play good defenses.

Not usually by choice, usually due to injury or poor recruiting. Sometimes the freshman is just the best option though. In this case TJ is still our #1 back because he's consistent, has good hands, and does his job. No reason Kyren can't move up to #2 or #2b though with Armstrong down.

Apparently redshirting now, per Pete Sampson. Barring injury to other RBs, that seems fine.

That's what I assumed once he stopped appearing in games at all after the first couple.

I don't know if I just haven't seen anything on him in a while, but he looks like he put on some healthy weight as well

At first, last spring it seemed like the weight was too much but he's starting to carry it much better. That happens to a lot of guys that eventually get the bad weight turned into good. Khalid Kareem comes to mind. He was in pretty bad shape his freshman year, trying to add to much weight to fast.

Because of his all around skillset I think Kyren is set for a productive year. Wouldn't surprise me if he passes up some guys in front of him. In fact, I expect it.

100%.

And I will add, I thought he got good social distance out of each break.

Book did the IG thing and he met up with friends to go throw the ball around. Then he went to a restaurant to "support" local.

I don't really blame these guys. We have to keep a tight circle among family/friends. They have to keep a tight circle that allows them to still train to become a professional one day. That's my $0.02 at least. As long as they're smart.

I feel that ND can utilize his skill set this season. He moves swiftly, and has good short area quickness and agility. He has natural hands, his technique is superb. His receiving abilities could provide a pass-catching option from out of the backfield, or the slot.

I’m not sure if he will grow into the player where he will challenge Armstrong for snaps, speaking more specifically for this upcoming season. Down the line, he could develop into a RB1, but Jafar is built more for the power running game. Keep Kyren where he can most effective, and preserved.
