First of all, congrats to JAck and congrats to the voters. Well deserved!

In regards to 1A winners...

A couple of those Sheridan legends deserved it. I don't know who beat Nick Zachary as a Sr. but they didn't deserve it. Zachary won 3 or 4 1A state championships.

Also, back in the 80's, Sheridan's Brett Law would have won the award but they didn't start giving it out until after he was gone. He probably deserved to win it twice. Those were the days when it was Sheridan vs whoever came out of Michiana, Jimtown or Bremen.

Law was a stud.

In 1988, Brett Law of Sheridan High School in Sheridan (pop. 2,520) scored 66 touchdowns and 453 points, a state and national high school football record.

Law has shattered, or is about to shatter, a whole host of U.S. high school records. Last season, in 14 games, he racked up 453 points, breaking a 35-year-old national scoring mark while leading the Blackhawks to their second straight state championship (with play-off scores of 83-6 and 85-0). Law’s 66 touchdowns smashed another single season record. Now, with 131 career touchdowns and 881 points, he has just destroyed the all-time high school scoring mark of 127 TDs, and he’s fast closing in on the 899 points set in 1953 by the legendary “Sugar Land Express,” Ken Hall of Sugar Land, Texas.

Congrats Jack.

Googled if for you - apparently Daniel Wodicka out of W. Lafayette won that year who I've never heard of? Ended up going to John Hopkins. Zachary won 3 titles btw - '05, '06 and '07.

Wodicka was 2009 season - Class of 2010. Morgan Newton (UK QB) beat Zachary out for Mr. Football in 2008 (Class of '09). Zack Martin & Tyler Eifert were in the same class too.

New Pal's Charlie Spegal had 70 TD's this year and is already Indiana's All Time leading rusher with a season to go.

How Mr. Football is selected

Sixty high school coaches vote for Mr. Football and the Mr. Football position award winners at the annual Indiana Football Coaches Association all-state meeting. There is one vote for each sectional and two at-large votes in each class. That comes out to 60 total votes — 10 for each class. Here is a breakdown of how each class voted between Kiser and Bell:

Class A – Kiser 10, Bell 0

Class 2A – Kiser 9, Bell 1

Class 3A – Bell 4, Kiser 1

Class 4A – Kiser 3, Bell 3

Class 5A – Kiser 3, Bell 3

Class 6A – Bell 6, Kiser 4

Kiser cleaned up in the voting at the Class A and 2A levels. Bell did not similarly dominate the voting in the larger classes enough to make up for it. Historically, it does not happen that way. There had never been a Class A Mr. Football before Kiser. Jaylon Smith of Fort Wayne Luers, a 2A school, won Mr. Football in 2012. Otherwise, it has been 4A, 5A and 6A players to win Mr. Football since the turn of the decade

i like how this is done i wish Ohio would do it this way.

too often given to the big time dude going to play in cbus.

Same with Michigan. Look up the name Jared Smith.

3,250 yards rushing w/ 53 TDs in 2015. Holds the MHSAA record in both categories.

Yep. Hard to compare them where Law played in a more traditional offense and Spegal plays in a spread. Spegal also sat out a lot of minutes this year and may have missed a game IIRC. Numbers would be more impressive playing full time.

Bell never got on the bus for us to say goodbye.

Kiser is on Dan Dakich right now. Well spoken kid. Doesn't come across as your typical teenager.

The thought of listening to Dan Dakich on purpose makes me throw up a bit in my mouth. Still have nightmares over his Maui Invitational work last year.

Hope this small town kid makes it big. Looks like a impressive athlete.

It was tough to listen to. Dakich came across as that drunk Uncle you might have who says inappropriate things trying to bond with the younger Nephews. Was kind of creepy. Kiser did a great job of handling himself.

Dak's one of the funniest people I was ever around. Him, Rob Harden and Dan Palombizio were like Bob Hope, Don Rickles and Dean Martin back in the glory days of Region Hoops.

I promise ya, some day you shorites will be creepy to the kids being born today. Welcome to life.

Especially considering this might have been the biggest screw job in Indiana high school sports history, and there has been quite a few.

I don't know one way or the other if it was or wasn't. Didn't Bell missed the SCG? WC still won. That may have hurt him. Kiser pretty much carried Pioneer where Warren was loaded and didn't need to rely on Bell as much.

The problem with Dakich is he's too condescending to his listeners. The majority of the time he likes to put callers down if they don't agree with him, yet when he has a guest on, he's like that little lap dog that won't stop licking your face. He rarely disagrees with them.

Bell played in the SCG, although very limited. He did have a catch, but that was really his only target all game. He was just out there as a decoy more or less the plays he was in.

Strong opinion....considering the vote wasn't all that close.

Certainly won't profess to be an expert on Indiana HS sports history, but I believe that Kiser deserved this award as much Bell.

What we have to remember is the statement of level of competition. So if a guy is playing against weak competition, he odds are is playing while being surrounded by weak competition teammates. 1A team barely has the kids to field a team most the time.

Now compare with a 6A team. Say they play stronger competition but that player is playing alongside stronger players, and not just players that barely had enough to make a team up. So that 6A Rb had 6A linemen blocking and defending when he scored. It was not like the 6A RB was surrounded by 1A talent...

The kid earned it with hard preparation, effort and results. You cant take that away because of where the kids parents raised him at.

Are you saying that Jonathan Ogden wasn't just good because he played a bunch of rich kids in the D.C. private school league back in the day?

Bottom line... Bell's not the star or MVP of his own team, Romeir Elliot is.. If there was a tragedy here it's Romier Elliot wasn't up against Kiser for the award. Mr Football is only for Seniors but if you included any player regardless of class my vote would have been:

Kiser
Charlie Spegal
George Karlaftis
Romier Elliot
David Bell
Michael Lindauer

...and I would've put Lindauer ahead of Bell had they beaten Karlaftis in the 3A CG.

Point taken, but there is no way you really believe that, deep in your heart of hearts!

Pretty sure Bell is the highest rated receiver in Indiana history.

Bell is a fabulous receiver And he was rewarded by being named the top receiver in the state.
Interestingly, Kiser was named the top quarterback
Kiser played quarterback and free safety for his high school team and is going to play linebacker at ND
That's what I'd call a "Mr Football"

Looking at pops I would guess there might be some room to grow and fill out to LB? In two years I expect this kid to blow some sh!t up on special teams - from there will be interesting to see what they do with him. (a year in the lab seems like a given for a 1A kid right?)
