USC shouldn't be on the top 5 impressive list

Nor should Cal, really. Great school if you want to go to school there, but you can breeze through if you're a student athlete.

In terms of FBS offers that impress me, it goes Stanford, Notre Dame, Duke, Northwestern, and Georgia Tech, even though Cal, UCLA, Michigan and USC "should" make the list before Tech.

cant have GT on there as long as their "M-Train" degree exists.

Rice should definitely be on the list ahead of Duke. Vandy or Wake would bring up the tail end of the Athletic Ivy's. The Academies are on the list too. UVA is w/ GT for public schools. BC and Tulane have a bit of academic pride too.

My point isn't the eligibility of receiving those offers. It's the fact that he has those 5 options. You can be a 2.0 student and go to USC/Michigan/UF etc, but that doesn't mean you're receiving a crap degree, because if you walk across that stage after 4-5 years, you're receiving a top of line diploma, connections all around the country and maybe even the world. Plus, the good schools that let the barely eligible 2.0 students in usually have terrible graduation rates. Like Cal-Berkeley lets in almost anyone with a pulse and in turn have one of the worst graduation rates in the entire country (that stat might be a few years old, but still illustrates my point). The overall point is if you're a smart kid looking for a good education, Tristan Sinclair's top 5 academic offers are something to be commended. Out of all the FBS institutions, here's the forbes ranking for power 5 schools...

1. Stanford
2. Duke
3. Notre Dame
4. Vanderbilt
5. Northwestern
6. Cal-Berkeley
7. Michigan
8. Virginia
9. USC
10. UCLA

I live 45 minutes from Michigan. There are two different standards for admission, one for the general student population and one for athletes. Getting admitted as part of the general student population is fairly difficult. There doesn't seem to be any standard for athletes.

We've had local students with exceptional grade point averages denied admission to UM. We've also had C-/D athletes accepted into Michigan and awarded scholarships because they are very good baseball players. We don't have much of a football program at the local high school, but the high school baseball coach has over 1,000 victories and seven state championships in his time here.

If there are very few standards for a high school baseball player, you can imagine how low the standards must be for football players at UM. Basically, if you can play football at a high level you will be admitted. Once you are admitted you can earn a degree or be given one at the end of your four or five years.

Totally my opinion but I’d say...

Group A
Tufono
Ekwonu
Henrich
Sinclair
Gbenda

Group B
Turner
Lytle
Kiser

I’d love to see them snatch up Ekwonu and Henrich and then spend the next several months going after Tufono, Sinclair, and Gbenda. They will probably have to make a decision on whether or not to take Lytle soon though because he looks primed for a summer decision. Even if they took Group B it’d be a pretty good haul.

Kiser has a ton of athleticism. I'm not very good at predicting linebacker success so I don't know how to group them. I thought Asmar Bilal was going to be mini-Jaylon :krazy:

Yea LBer predictions are tough cause they have to learn run stopping, gap control, shedding blockers, coverage, rushing the passer potentially, and also calling defenses. Pretty tough to figure out who’s gonna grasp all that and also put on weight, keep their athleticism and potentially improve in that area. I love the idea of having a room of 10-12 really athletic linebackers and hoping they grasp those concepts instead of having so 4.8-4.9 guys who have limited ceilings but are really smart football players.

For folks like us, the recruit judgement on linebackers (and safeties) goes really foggy on one paramount criteria (instinct at the snap.) I had a brother who could see things like that in a player, so I know that some people have at least a clue. I'm hoping that we have several guys on staff that can do this.

Guys like Filer, Morgan, and Bilal are easy (for people like me) to make assessment errors on --- pre-actual ND game action. They were so uber-talented in HS (relatively) that their blow-away destruction of opponents, coupled with the infamous "eye-test", fools almost everyone even some coaches.

It's why I trust the staff now, and cut even them some slack on this.

Live Updates: The Opening Finals Day 4

Brandon Huffman
Been a huge fan of ATH Tristan Sinclair all offseason and this week, he's been very, very good in coverage and showing the athleticism and play recognition that has made him one of the top recruits in the Bay Area. The Dynamite coaches, including former Butkus Award winner Chris Claiborne, have been raving about him all week.

Jamie U came away from the Opening quite impressed with Sinclair. Also, the general vibe coming out of The Opening from both Jamie at ISD and Wiltfong at 247 is ND is a legitimate contender. Per Wiltfong, maybe even leader at this time.

I’d say he heard back from Stanford admissions like the kid that flipped from UM did.

Yep. I half jokingly posted this earlier on a ND Facebook Group. Warned everyone about checking their Twitter feed tonight after dinner because they just might find:

Cornelius Johnson
Walter Rouse
Josh Pakola
Laiatu Latu
Hudson Henry

all committed and that they flipped KJ Wallace and Kyle Hamilton.

"What I'm hearing is that Notre Dame was definitely in this one up until very recently. X was very interested in what Notre Dame was selling, to the extent that the Irish might've even led following his Y visit. But in the end it came down to Z and Stanford were always going to be hard to beat."

plugin (x,y,z): (Sinclair, June, distance)

Seems like you just copied and paste that one!

I wouldn’t bet on Sinclair going to ND
