This reminds me of a story. I once knew a guy who could've been a great ND quarterback. Could've gone pro. All he needed was a little time and some practice. He decided to go to Notre Dame. Did pretty well his red-shirt year. At the end of his first year, his last semester, he was kicked out. You know what for? He was night-putting. Just putting at night...with the 15-year-old daughter of the coach. You know who that guy was? That guy was Mitch Cumstein, my roommate. He's a good guy.

Comes in to lead comebacks this year against scUM, USC, Stanford and FSU throwing the winning TD in all four games with under a minute to go. That should do it. Of course immediately after the scUM game the pressure on BK to play Phil would be so unrelenting he would have used his four games right out of the gate.

I feel like there are too many variables to say that...

If he REALLY is going to end up as THE back up qb this soon, and we have 1) a great team this year, and 2) The starter gets hurt during a great season!

Perhaps we have to play him for the remainder.

(just a scenario where i could see us burning a red shirt, not at all hoping for this)

I'm someone who barely touches recruiting "film". But if you're a professional and can't see that...

If anything I'm more worried that our coaches will try too hard to "fix it". A good throwing motion is important in the NFL, where nearly everything has to be mechanically perfect because everyone is a top .01% athlete. In college football? If it works, ball out.

It has been known his release wasn't "perfect" and I re watched his film and you can see it, but for some reason it's nowhere near as obvious as the clips from practice. I don't know if it's because the practice clips are way more zoomed in or what, but the ball gets to where it needs to be and is put in pretty good spots. Short, medium, and long. Somewhat like Brandon, he will be a guy who can help any passing shortcomings he has with his athleticism and play making ability. All reports have been great on this kid and what they think he will become.

Tim Tebow was just fine as a college passer (and as an NFL passer in the playoffs against Pittsburgh).

I mean you always hear about baseball pitchers needing the “perfect” motion, but there are a ton of successful pitchers with weird throwing motions. It’s all about reproducing the motion consistently.

The theory is, if you throw from over the top, the less chance of the ball getting batted down. I'm with you though. If batted balls are not a problem and you're getting rid of the ball quickly, getting it there on time and in the right place, why fix it?
