Oh I agree, but at the same time we know Phil is a pretty good basketball player to be a key contributor to a team that is playing in the 6A state title game.*

*pretty good at least in terms of high school basketball.

No doubt. I always remind people of that fact because when you see someone do something in another sport you're like... WUT? Two things that make people look really dumb... playing basketball and throwing out the first pitch.

Glad you got a ticket. I'll watch on TV. Reading crowd will be HUGE. Really want to see how Phil matches up defensively/ athletically with Lonnie.

Not a homer and not a Reading fan at all, but I'm calling Reading winning comfortably.

How does one watch a high school basketball game from Penn all the way up in Canada?

Next to impossible. PCN (our state cable network) is what broadcasts the game. Could potentially stream the radio broadcast from Reading or near Pine-Richland.

Was a great game to watch and Phil was solid against a very good Reading team. I will say isn't Reading didn't win, there would of been a riot. The fans were very ignorant and disrespectful.

Take it however you want

4) Speaking of prospects from Pennsylvania, I was standing next to two as The Opening Regional wrapped up, offensive lineman Jake Kradel who I wrote about earlier today, and Notre Dame quarterback commitment Phil Jurkovec who the Buckeyes recruited and who visited Ohio State before he committed to the Fighting Irish. The two were talking and Jurkovec congratulated Kradel on his recent scholarship offer from the Buckeyes, and mention what a big offer that was for Kradel to receive.

Jurkovec and Kradel went on to talk about visiting Ohio State and Jurkovec asked Kradel if they had shown him around and showed him various things, and mentioned how impressive different things are at Ohio State. The two also talked about how Ohio State is “an NFL factory,” and how they “produce” NFL players.

Looks like we're still winning on that front. Someone better let this guy know it's not what he thinks it is.

Yes, OSU is a NFL factory but the one thing you can bet on is they aren't a NFL QB factory.

Yes, but neither is ND

Not many schools if any are QB factories. But I understand you're talking about the other positions. They are an NFL factory though.

Pretty easy sell for them plus urban might be the best salesmen in college football. Come play at the shoe, come play in the playoffs, compete for Big10 every single year, compete for national titles

Opening testing results:

From watching Phil, I think of him as being as athletic as Jack Sears from '17. Right now, he's off quite a bit but Sears works out 365 for football and Phil is still messing around on the hardwood. He needs to dedicate himself full time to being a QB. Hoops eats off the hard work you do in the weight room.

6-5.5 / 198

4.86 - 40 (Thought he'd be a 4.75)

4.59 Shuttle

37.0 PB

35.7 Vert

Total = 87.18

He was hurt during football season as well, that probably affected him in some capacity. Not worried about him not being fully committed to football yet, he most likely isn't going to be asked to make an immediate impact and we just witnessed Kizer go from being a multi-sport high school athlete to a top NFL qb prospect.

He'll have some time at ND to do that. Let him be a kid and enjoy being a multi sport high school kid.

Exactly. Who cares if a kid doesn't focus only on football in high school. Let them be kids and play other sports. I, for one, am sick and tired of these kids specializing in one sport. It doesn't do them any good. Be a kid, play multiple sports, have fun, and enjoy high school.

Exactly... I wasn't a D1 stud or anything, but I played Football, Basketball and Baseball in HS and I loved playing all three.. It was a blast.. I couldn't imagine playing just 1 sport all year long and when not playing, training... Seems like such a bore

Dear Overreacters,

I'm not against multi-sport participation... just the opposite in fact. But there comes a time when some athletes need to focus on their moneymaker and Phil's one of them. Compared to 99.99% of HS athletes, Phil has a chance to make one of his HS sports a multi million dollar career. He's already had a good time with basketball and had a nice HS career but if he plays next year he is risking a serious injury... that's not fair to ND. Phil needs to be able to walk on campus and compete for the #2 spot. His skill set as compared to Book and Davis demand that. In a perfect world, he'll get to redshirt but that doesn't always work out as we all know. ND is investing a lot of money and the most important position in the program on him as they are not going after another QB. He owes it to ND to NOT play basketball next year and from this day forward, he owes it to himself to train with a laser like focus to become the best possible QB at the next two levels. If you don't agree with that you should be rooting for Harvard, Yale or Princeton.

Agree, he needs the laser beam focus of a Todd Marinovich.

To late for that. Marinovich's Dad had him on a single focus since birth. Phil's lived the all american, multi sport life until this day. 100% different.

Your attempted wittiness was however recognized Gin.
