Excellent news Arrow.

I can see justification for both scenarios if MZ is under center. Flipping Stanley could show the NFL of his versatility and probably our best opportunity to protect MZ. Having said that, there is something to be said about leaving a lineman where he's at. I'll go back to my tried and true example I've used over the years. If you had to start brushing your teeth with your opposite hand, you can do it, but you're a little slower at it and you have to think about it more. When you flip linemen to the opposite side, they have to change their plant foot and have to learn to rotate their hips the opposite way. Not impossible, but it takes a while to adjust and it still doesn't come as natural as playing the other side.

Nice analogy. I agree and would like to see them stay in their current positions.

What I'm wondering is do you still put your best tackle at LT if that's not the QB's blindside? Or do you put him at RT if you've got a lefty under center?

That's a semi-misconception. Your best tackle generally plays on the left side because that's where the best pass-rusher usually lines up, not because it's the QBs blindside. Granted, the best pass-rusher usually lines up there because it's the QB's blindside. Defenses probably will not change alignment to adjust for a left-handed QB, so I would bet Stanley stays on the left side.

Top edge pass rushers generally get moved from side to side. They try to take advantage of mismatches.

Disagree with this. We always put the best tackle on the blind side, including moving him to right tackle the past two years for our left handed QB..

I see Day announced he was coming back. Does Stanley have until the 15th to declare? Don't classes start this week as well?

The longer it takes for him to announce the less I think he is staying.

Longer it takes for him to announce I don't think is necessarily a sign either way. I think it's at best an indication of not having his mind made up entirely. If he was completely set on going pro, he would've already declared.

When I was in school, the early leavers were all registered for spring classes. Still remember having a professor looking for Clausen while taking roll call.

That's funny, and somewhat telling how it's been said in the past that the faculty doesn't give two hoots about football half the time.

Prof: "Clausen? Clausen? Bueller?"
Student: "I...umm...think he transferred to the NFL."
Prof: "Ha ha, very funny, but seriously, has anyone seen him?"
Student: "No, it's true."
Prof: "...I didn't even realize he played basketball."
Class: [laughing ensues]

Hilarious. Is there a story you care to share about that?

Ronnie has started at both RT and LT for us so it probably makes little difference to him. The pros are smarter than to be blinded by something arbitrary like that --- see ZMart drafted for Right Guard and being instant All-Pro. IF Malik wins the job, Ronnie should go back to RT unless McGlinchey either can't do LT for some reason {some linemen are a bit asymmetric early in their careers --- dominant foot or hand}, or is so good at RT that the difference is miniscule. A possible OLine ringer would be if Nelson or Barrs is so good that one or both of them muscle in with one of them at tackle. {I have a feeling that Mustipher is really good too, but the "two redshirt frosh starting scenario" seems very unlikely with a line containing Stanley, McGlinchey, Elmer, and NMart already.} ... p.s. the reason why the deadliest pass rusher tends to line up on the LTs side is precisely because the QBs blind side is [usually] that way.

Oh it's not that good of a story. There's an an anthropology course at ND that everyone tries to take if they can because it's both very interesting and rather easy. The professor is this awesome old tap-dancing guy who is just the best. So it's generally packed with athletes and seniors who have the best registration times.

Anyways, it's a big couple hundred person lecture hall where you go sign yourself in at the front. I forget the exact scenario but it was in one of the first classes they start going through the absentees and sure enough "James Clausen?" ... not in the building haha

Similar stuff for all the early leavers from what I remember back then, they end up registering for classes before they declare for the draft. What'd be interesting to know is if anyone saw Stanley in class today.
