Easy now, don't assume he's a Boilermaker. Said he's taking a Bama official.

Sorry if I missed this, but was this academic casualty? I am sure there are not specifics, but it is too bad. Foreign language or test scores?

What am I missing here.

Academic casualty?

Purdue isn't exactly Jimmy's College and Bait Shop. Is there something more to this story?

That was my point about "help". You may not have the grades or money to attend, but if you can ball, they will "help" you.

This is fact. I personally went through the process and more than a few of my WC township classmates chose Cathedral over Warren. None had good grades or money (except one)...and guarantee had never stepped into a Catholic church ever. Even my private school made me take Catholicism classes before they'd accept me. Made it so much more rewarding smacking them around in both football and baseball.

Many around Indy have a mindset private schools recruit, when in reality it is only Cathedral playing that game. Cathedral gives private schools a bad reputation when it comes to athletics and academics.

Private schools recruit athletic players??? Say it isn't so 2155!

Cathedral lets in athletes who don't qualify academically or financially??? ND would never do that!

In the words of Lee Corso, Not so fast there my friend. I know Heritage Christian girls BBall has. The state of Indiana has had three very good 7ft tall basketball players in the last 15-20 years and they all end up at Lawrence North? Coincidence?

Back in 95 or 96 my sister was living in Oklahoma. Her son was a very good FB player (ended up with several D1 offers). The summer before his junior year they moved back to Beech Grove. She tells me two days after moving back Roncalli was knocking on their door. They couldn't afford to pay his tuition, but they "helped" him. I was telling this story to an elderly man who was a big Roncalli fan. He looked me straight in the eye and said my sister was lying. lol

Cathedral is by far the worst, but they aren't the only ones.

X2. I have friends that are on the WC, LC & Brebeuf staff and they have all told me about some recruiting wins during their time there. The Brebeuf guy specifically talked about how they helped a few of theirs with tuition etc.

is he even a take for Bama?

sounding like Purdue if they can squeeze him through admissions, Louisville if not.

Is there some links for this?

Not getting into Purdue is a whole nutha level of not qualifying for ND.

Lawrence North isn't a private school, fyi. ;) But speaking of, one of those examples ended up going to LN his senior year after Cathedral finally booted him...it took slamming a girls head into a desk, fact. Was probably going to be their starting QB at Cathedral too. Dude went on to be the county player of the year in baseball out of LN our senior year. I went yard off him twice and it felt so great because he is a POS. My graduating school played in the city then, unlike now, but that POY would be mine if we were county.

Good note, I can certainly buy a situation like that being the new kid in town...he needs to go to school, right? And Beech Grove isn't a great place to play any sport let alone get a top notch education. The "helping" him part, I'm a little skeptical about...but I'll take your word for it though. Chuck W. doesn't operate like that.

Not necessarily the same as Cathedral recruiting kids out of the public schools. They have a radius of Marion and all the surrounding counties...maybe even more. And they will give $$$ breaks along with lower academic standards. Didn't we just lose a commitment not too long ago from Cathedral who should have went to Mt. Vernon or something like that??...I seem to remember but could be wrong. I wonder how far his commute to HS was everyday?

I went to two private schools btw, not just the one on the south side...two years each. Can say both only had kids who grew up within the CYO program or just recently moved close to the school and was in the Catholic community. And when I went to transfer south, I had that meeting with my parents and Chuck W....it started like this, Chuck W. - "this is no hotel son, we don't just let anybody in"...remember like yesterday. I'm pretty sure Cathedral isn't having those type conversations.

In addition to the rant above (blah, blah, blah)...I think Cathedral's scheduling model is specifically targeted towards to recruiting...

...but in hindsight, it is probably detrimental. Traveling every week for a college athletes is one thing. But long bus rides out of state for high school kids every weekend takes it toll over time and might have contributed to their blowout loss to Columbus East. My opinion...

Cathedral doesn't have a field they can call home.

Bishop Dwenger and Bishop Luers has done this for years up here in Ft Wayne. Dwenger not nearly as much as Luers, but they still do it.

The only thing worse is if he pulls a double-dirty like Ty Isaac did.

This bothers me enough to wish for the days of the Holy Cross feeder system.

There's a walk-on o-lineman on the team now that did his first year at Holy Cross when I was there. His plan the entire time was to do exactly that (get a good gpa and then transfer) and Brian Kelly knew about it to.

Totally aware of that. I was just trying to illustrate that the recruiting goes on all the time. Greg Oden lived in Terre Haute and IIRC Erick Montross didn't live in the LN district initially.

Can't stand Louisville, but man, anything's better than USC at this point. Wish he'd go with Purdue though.

I think Markese found himself a great program and a great academic alternative to Notre Dame, but the fan of ND in me says, “SERIOUSLY??? DAMMIT!”

This is pretty bizarre. Such a huge ND fan that he was brought to tears after he decommitted because he never completed his academics to get into ND, now he’s going to USC.

Isn't the former IU running backs coach that recruited him at IU now at USC? And he gets to play in big time games (something he wouldn't be able to do at IU or Purdue), gets to play in great weather, and I shouldn't have to say anything about the females that walk around that campus.

When he decommitted, USC was one of my predictions because I remember when it was a small story when they offered and the former IU running backs coach was there.
