Houston always wanted to go to a team he thought he could win a NC game with. What kid doesn't, but he made this known.

It's not necessarily true that he wants the easy way out, just wants a factory, etc. He simply was skeptical that ND could win, and who the hell could blame him? We were facing a HC change, and won 4 games last year.

Now the script has flipped. Perhaps he's always liked ND, but winning remained important to him? And now he actually thinks the staff might be able to compete at a high level?

Which is completely understandable, to be honest.

"Is Houston like that? No one knows." What an ignorant comment. Plenty of people know including Kelly and Elko and it's obvious they want the kid here. I'll go with what they think since they actually know the kid.

None of us message board denizens knows. None of us relying on the "in the knows". We also clearly dont know what Kelly and the coaches think as the "in the knows" have differing reported opinions. Who is really being ignorant here? Have you spoken with Coach Kelly personally? Have you spoken with any of the coaches personally. Then you know exactly what we know which is jack shit.

We also "talked" with Bo Scarbrough who couldnt even get into Alabama on time.

The Nyles Morgan comparison is trash. Nyles Morgan wanted to go to Ole Miss because his friends (Treadwell) were trending to Ole Miss. He had not been on campus 5+ times.

The ND staff has questions about Griffith and if he would be a fit, not just random people posting on message board. When you recruit enough kids every year, you get a feel for certain things and how a kid carries himself. When a recruit decides to SKIP the meeting with the academic advisor, that's a bad sign....

What happens when ND is not in the playoff race?

Again, can things change? Sure they can, he's a young kid. The staff is smart to see this one through and take a chance on a high end talent. He is not your typical fit for an ND student athlete, period.

Doesn't take a Mensa member to figure out that if Kelly and Elko are strongly pursuing Griffith and have arranged to visit with him and his family sometime around Thanksgiving holidays they still think highly of the kid.

We KNOW nothing really. We have published reports and rumors of things, but we are not in the conversations these kids have with their families and their coaches.

Plus who knows for sure that a kid that may not be thought of as a fit doesn't mature to become a great fit. If the kid wants it and continues to want it, then he is more than welcome.

This kid is all talk. I highly doubt he likes anything about ND.

Sherm, that's the point some people are trying to make, he's been to campus a TON of times, he's seen everything he needs to see, I just feel he's always wanted to be down south. I'll be shocked if anything changes with him.

I was responding directly to Irishff1014 and not making a general statement. Irishff1014 stated "I highly doubt he likes anything about ND." If that was the case why has he visited many times? And why has ND always been in his top group if there is nothing he likes about Notre dame? If there was nothing he liked or that interested him he would have no connection to the school. clearly there are somethings he likes about the University.

It also doesnt take a Mensa memeber to know that by them doing that qualifies him for entry into ND or makes him a fit.

Every year we host kids who dont or are not cultural fits or academic fits.

People are fine having concerns.

It appears it does take a Mensa member to evaluate something from all angles without resorting to ad hominems.

If he's right for ND, I hope we get him. If he's not, I hope he finds a different suitor. He obviously has all the talent but we need team first players.

Lol. Some posters crack me up. A 17 yo kid is rumored that he may give ND a 2nd look and some of you are acting like he lost his drug dealer down in FL.

If they want/take him, I hope they drop their pursuit of Crim and go after one of the CB's they're flirting with that have elite quickness.

How so? It doesn't make you a bad kid or a drug hustling punk to not be interested in ND and all that comes with it. Facts are facts. It is different and normally, it takes a certain type of student athlete to succeed at ND. Are there exceptions? Sure, but they're just that, excpetions.

I don't think anyone here is saying the kid is a bad kid or that he's not smart enough. He interviews well and he's not a bad kid. However, the ND staff has seen enough to feel torn on Griffith. Maybe the meeting is to see if Griffith has grown up and it's a refresher that ND is different and won't curve what it's about because you're talented and other schools have offered you shortcuts? Maybe they're taking members from both sides of the fence on Griffith to see if they can come to a common ground and the risk is worth it?

The staff has question marks with Griffith. That's true. It's also true from what I've been made to understand, that they are maturity issues and effort issues.

HOPEFULLY this changes and he can see ND for what it really is all about and that becomes more important than a football factory. He's a smart enough kid, so hopefully the staff and his family can breakthrough.

IMO if this kid nevers goes to IMG and stays at Mt. Carmel he is a Notre Dame commit since this summer and we never have this convo. I think he got caught up with Florida and how everything is down there and now maybe he realizes he wants to be closer to his family and play on a damn good football team

The Gervin reboot cost us nothing and proved that ND will part ways if its not going to work.

Maybe it encourages some other kids to come aboard...

What did he say? I can't listen to that

It's a free podcast dude. I would fill you in but I won't be listening to it until my drive home in about half hour. But it's the II podcast with Sampsonite.

He said not ready to cb yet would expect a flip eventually. ND has put right all of the concerns that the family had last season.

Before we blame it 100% on Houston's attitude/behavior/whatever let's remember his father has been successful at every level of football he has been at. Pops might've been 100% behind keeping his son & ND at arm's length until they proved that this isn't BK and MVG's underperfoming/under-developing clusterphuk that gave us a 4-8 season, a depleted secondary and were at the controls of Cole Luke's regression. Pop's didn't send his son down to IMG to get good at school, he sent him down there because he knows his kid has a very good chance to turn his football gift into $$$. Can't have a program's dysfunction getting in the way of that.

That's probably at least part of how we got to today.

MVG? What did he do other than set records as a PAT holder!

I agree with comparison above. Two guys who seemed Really hesitant about ND to me were Nyles Morgan and Dalin Hayes. Both turned out to be excellent fits at ND. But I knew nothing about those guys, and know nothing about Houston.
