I would love to have this kid. If we can show him that he will have to show up to play ball both in the classroom and on the field and then he still chooses us great.

That's the issue. If he's "looking for other things", I have to believe it means an easier life experience during college, primarily less emphasis on the education. If this is the case, I will pass on him right now. I can't see him changing his mindset about the academics, so after a semester or two, he'd probably be transferring.

just what i have heard regarding him is that is absolutely NOT a fit for ND.....and not even all of our coaches care for him and the way he carries himself

I'm so torn on this kid. Everything I've read and heard from solid contacts leads me to believe this kid just doesn't fit ND. I'm not going to say he's looking for a free ride, but..... he doesn't want to pay. Could that change? Is it possible for a highschool senior to mature? Lol of course.

This dude is so talented and at a position that ND needs some serious help. I just don't see a way you don't take a chance here and put some extra effort into supporting him off the field and keeping an eye on him.

I still don't know how legitimate the interest is. Seems he's going to meet with staff over Thanksgiving vacation. We'll see where this whole thing goes but you have to see it through.

He sounds like a smart kid in his interviews.

Why are they pursuing if they are so sure he doesn't fit?

I think this kid is both smart and flaky. I also don't think he's completely transparent and loyal, and he likes to tell people what they like to hear.

However, those types of kids can succeed in the right situation still. Maybe he would be a ship jumper/transfer under normal circumstances, but he'd be coming in as a starter as a true sophomore.

You play early, and for a good defense, it's easy to buy in and stick with it. I think given the early PT is guaranteed at ND would let a kid who's a bit flaky actually stick with it.

If he had to sit til his JR year? Wouldn't want him in this class because he'd jump.

Because he's an elite talent at a position of need. You take chances on players like Griffith, Aaron Lynch, etc. And again, he's a highschool senior that can grow up and turn the corner.

Do you think Houston Griffith, who could get an OV to anywhere in the country, is really jonesing for a November trip to ND to watch them play unranked Navy?

If he visits, it's for real.

Todd Lyght is not some top 40 song, easily digestible. Todd Lyght is complex, and requires multiple listens. Todd Lyght is "Stairway to Heaven".

Maybe Houston Griffith is finally listening again to Todd Lyght.

When is the last time a player like this actually worked out at Notre Dame?

History doesn't bode well for these circumstances i would agree but i don't think that is something to make you give up and not take a chance. Championship teams have these players sprinkled in with them. ND needs to get some for sustained success IMO.

I don't know, but this situation makes me think of Max. It might be best for both parties if Houston goes somewhere else. No info, but what the sites have been saying makes me think Houston should go elsewhere

if it works out then yes but otherwise it can be a cancer in the locker room which can create its own kind of issues

I think the team has the right mindset now that "a cancer" won't distract them (Stepherson not buying in). He will either get outcasted until he changes or he will transfer.

The comments being made on this board about a kid they've never met and know nothing about is dumbfounding to me. Did you ever think the main reason he looked elsewhere was a 4-8 record and the thought that the HC could get fired? Now maybe he sees this is a safe, solid program going forward and he is more comfortable now with ND. Maybe while at IMG he was getting sold by others about the fun he could have at a place like FSU. Maybe after talking to family he realizes the opportunity at ND and being closer to home. Time to give the kid a break given that not one of you has ever spent a minute of your life with him.

Reminds me exactly of the recruitment of Nyles Morgan. He was all about Ole Miss and playing with friends down there not to mention the great social life that exists there. He wasn't all that into ND. It was his dad and BK who were able to finally convince him to give ND a better look. This situation with Griffith reminds me of Morgan's situation a lot. Even people on message boards saying Morgan wasn't a good fit for ND because he seemed more interested in "other things" at Ole Miss.

Gee, I can't wait for starting CB Houston Griffith to be suspended for the first four games.

He soured on ND because he didn't believe we could turn it around, and flirted with every football factory there is. Now his chosen football factory looks like shit, so he's shopping again. Everything about this kid screams that his priorities are just wrong for ND.

You have no clue what he was thinking.

A top corner is reconsidering ND. Who cares if he didn't like us at the beginning of the season. There are people on this board that didn't thing Kelly could turn it around.
He likes is again. I say bring him on!

This is actually a great example.

Please spare us the derision. All we have to go on is conjecture and whatever info the "In the knows" want us to know.

We have a serious and demonstrable track record of kids who display his public tendencies that ultimately do not bode well for ND regarding recruiting. THey either:
  1. Commit annd decomit before NSD
  2. Drag us along until NSD leaving us in the lurch and down a player
  3. Accept the challenge and then flake out.

I agree with Lax that it rarely works out for us with kids who behave like what is being reported.

Is Houston like that? No one knows.

I personally am going to welcome him if he chooses to accept the challenges of ND as a school. The coaches should inform him as best they can as to what is expected and if chooses us then great. I will root hard for whomever takes on the challenge.

No, but but the people who speak to him do. His CBs switched six times in the span of seven months before he committed to FSU, and now he's thinking of flipping again. Not many guys like that have worked out at ND. They usually end up at, well, an FSU.

"Is Houston like that? No one knows." What an ignorant comment. Plenty of people know including Kelly and Elko and it's obvious they want the kid here. I'll go with what they think since they actually know the kid.

Another stupid comment. CB's are not commitments. It's a gimmick designed to get people like you to click on a site. Griffith has made one commitment to FSU. That's it. One. The problem with fans is they want the recruitment of any player to go exactly as they want it. Sorry but it doesn't work that way.
