Dude should not be worried. He's either starting at safety next year or will be an Uber athletic rover, a featured position on defense.

I didn't read it as trouble.

ND has to graduate some LB's and let current guys matriculate into future positions. Allen's a tweener right now and I've felt he'd be the Rover and Simon the Buck since the get go. Their time will come.

The wildcard is going to be if Hamilton can stay at FS. I sure hope he can.

I'm not worried. I just didnt know what to make of the tweet. I just wanted to throw it out to the board to know it was out there. He seems like a really good kid.

No just surprising not to see him play. Pete Sampson did report that after the first practice at Culver he didn’t get any live reps and was visibly disappointed. Lea had to go console him.
He’s a smart enough kid with smart enough parents to see the opportunity in front of him. Plenty of players graduating soon. He’ll get his turn.

I’m to lazy to check game logs, but I feel like he has been on the field in a game or two earlier this season.

Also doesn’t Notre Dame only dress 50 something players for road games. If that is the case he probably didn’t make the trip-due to limited numbers. Now if this was a home game he may have gotten in the game in the fourth.

I don't see this as a troubling tweet. I think his dad is saying that he supports the "Trust the Process" selling point. If Allen were an early enrollee like Houston Griffith, I think we would see more of him. I compare Allen to Darnell Ewell, highly recruiting, just has to learn more before he sees the field (which isn't a bad thing), although I think Allen sees the field sooner than Ewell; and I hope Ewell eventually sees the field. I'd be shocked if Allen were to transfer.

Maybe here is our secret weapon?

DSmooth knows all his moves from way back.

As far as safeties go, I have stopped being surprised when kids we've written off as freshman emerge as juniors or even seniors--or when the all-everything recruit struggles as a freshman. It happens over, and over, and over.

There is just so much going on in space, and its happening so much faster than it was in high school, it's just a big time mental adjustment.

Absolutely. Raw athletic talent allows these 4 star players to dominate without focusing on the details. Now they are a part of a system and if they miss their assignment, the other team can take it to the house.

Anyone hearing anything about him in spring practice?

Nothing good. He's getting some reps with a couple guys sitting our and/or missing due to a class. But he hasn't been that impressive, to put it bluntly.

Disclaimer: Not being combative, but can you let me know where you read any negative reviews? This is disappointing to hear and I'd be interested in reading.

I really, really don't want DA to become Max Red. 2.0. He balled out at most of his camps and it would be disappointing for him to not pan out after hitting campus.

Yeah that's fair - I haven't read anything, but I listened to Irish Illustrated's most recent podcast, and they said he's been late to the ball and out of place. And as good of an athlete as you can be, if you don't get their instinctual, it doesn't matter.

They did say he's been asked to take more chances, so if you're giving the benefit of the doubt maybe that's part of it, but outside of that, I still haven't heard or read a single thing about him "flashing", and with an athlete like him, even if they aren't seeing the full field, you'd think they'd at least flash due to athleticism alone.

He should be playing a hybrid linebacker/box safety kind of role, but the most concerning thing I read was about him “not being physical enough”... I don’t expect him to run with Keys or Lenzy, but if he isn’t being physical I don’t know what his path to the field is.

Yeah, maybe its one of those situations where the kid REALLY wants be a safety, and the coaches don't want to push him in a different direction until he's ready.

If his problem is coverage, I can see him trying so hard to run with the receivers and concentrate on his changes in direction, that he becomes less physical in the process.

Maybe academics related, but then again he was struggling to find his place on the depth chart also.
