Rivals moved Derrik up from 82 to 66 overall.
My favorite recruit in this class. Land an elite safety from SEC country who never waivered or wanted all the attention SEC recruits get. Just the way he handled his recruit gives me high hopes for him in the coming years. Thanks Derrick Allen for sticking to your word, be ready to play next year.

Apparently, Derrik has been studying Elko’s scheme since he committed. They have very detailed conversations about it. Essentially the plan being he shows up ready to go. Now that might be said about a lot of guys, but I get the sense this is different. He spends a lot off time on it. The family has been very interested in Elko since the hire and this might be a perfect match. We’ll see.

I really wish he were. He's one of the 3 most important 2018's for EE, IMO. Jurkovic, Allen, and Jayson A. Maybe even Jack Lamb but I don't think he plays meaningful minutes in 2018 because I really like Jonathan Jones to take a spot up. And if I had to choose one, I'd have chose Allen.
Hey - at least it's not Van Gorder's scheme, where he'd have had to start studying in middle school to have a chance at understanding by the time he's 20.

This is great news. We have a lot of returning experience and talent, now let the chips fall where they may. Sigh of relief seeing the fax come in early. Players with his talent usually have at least a few twists/turns in their recruitment. Allen was steadfast.

This article just shows the fallacy of using camps as a barometer for talent.
He even states that Allen's a better live-player than camp, yet the camp is the reason he's kept from 5-star status? Sorry, but that's bullsh*t. Live action >>>> camp when it comes to evaluating talent.
Allen is a 5-star and that isn't up for discussion.

And I agree with you. I believe he is the best all around DB in the country. Former 5 star CB, moved to FS (when he was bigger than the LB's on his HS team), will be a new kind of Stud for Elko's D with pass coverage skills that the position has not seen before and if he keeps filling out, might end up at Rover before he leaves South Bend.
Love this about ND's recruiting right now. A lot of multi faceted players.
