Going back through this thread, I wonder why no one tried to tell us he was going to be this good?

Does he even bother with a 3rd year? Maybe he'll be a guy to force the issue.

and what play in the new Alliance of American Football league?

I honestly wonder if there's an NFL owner or two who would be desperate enough to try to convince the others to remove the 3 year rule. It WILL be gone eventually, it's just a matter of when

Like I've already said, the AAF & the XFL's only hope is to use the NFL's 3 & Done against them.

Lawrence is a league changer.

Dude was in high school last year and has already cemented his legacy. Unreal.

I wonder what kind of financial backing they have because buying Lawrence out of waiting for the NFL would get all the headlines.

Clemsons beating of Bama last night actually made me feel better at where our team is. If love wouldn't have gotten hurt and if it wasn't for a few 50/50 calls and a lucky catch, and if our team would have played like they were capable of I think we are right there with Clemson.

I think if Love had played the entire game the score wouldn’t have been as lopsided but Clemson would’ve still covered. Still, it would’ve been a competitve game & ND would’ve gained national respect for doing so. Regardless of Julian Love, that offense wasn’t going to score much more than three points outside of a turnover deep in Clemson territory like the one that was overturned.

You can't really overestimate how important that game was for ND's off-season, especially recruiting. Arguing the relative merits of blowout losses is a bad look, and now ESPN can't run with the "ND doesn't belong" theme for the next 6 months.

SEC guy: "ND didn't belong in the playoffs, they can't compete with the big boys."

ND response before last night: "DERP... grades? roids? not quite there?"

ND response after last night: "Well, I guess Alabama can't compete either, huh? It's hard to stomach, but it was just Clemson's year and Trevor Lawrence/Justin Ross is a special combo."

Big difference.

He’s 19 and he just pimp slapped a Nick Saban coached team in the national championship game. Crazy

Coach Sanford watching the #1 overall player in '18 throw today... probably would be the best in '17 too.

Hard to believe this kid's 15 or 16. Could be looking at an all timer here.

10 CB's so far: 7 to Tennessee, 3 to UGa and Clemson round out his Top 3. US Army All-American commit.

...and that hair tho.

.

Was just headed over to Hunter's thread to give him a proper Irish Wake!

Bwahahahaha!

Lawrence should be a None & Done. Every NFL team would draft him this year and incubate him. He's an absolute can't miss no-brainer.

Trust me you, I didn't say it was hyperbole. Been following this kid since travel ball. He's a white whale, the Jadeveon Clowney of QB's, until he isn't.

BUT don't sell JT Daniels arm short just because he is. He can make all the throws at uncanny % rates.... and does against P5 DB's every night. He's not the recruit Lawrence is because Lawrence has ideal NFL package but JT Daniels is a better QB right now, might even have a better college career depending on what team he chooses and how Clemson is during Lawrence's career, plus JT is bigger than a few current Pro Bowl QB's and future HOFer in N.O. so his size won't stop him from being a great one.

Back to Lawrence, He's been the overall #1 HS prospect since he put on a helmet freshman year.

He's the best football prospect not in the NFL. Was last year too. If football was like baseball, he would have been he #1 overall draft pick last year.

Crusader went all in and early on this kid. And he was right.

So we may be on the cusp of a historic shift in how football matriculates from HS --> College --> Pros.

Word is... there are forces trying to put Trevor Lawrence in the AAF while Adidas foots an 8 digit subsidy to pay him. AAF is just $75k per. Big Sneaker steps in to fill the gap.

Personally, I'm not sure how it works right now (if the AAF bylaws allow it, if it's too late to bring in a player, Which team would get him, etc...) but it's gonna happen sooner or later. Vince McMahon will use every last subsidy dollar Big Sneaker is willing to throw at XFL players. In the AAF's case, Trevor Lawrence is the perfect guy to be the first. He's been the #1 pro prospect in football for the past 4 years. We were out at the Pylon 7v7 tourney yesterday and Adidas sponsors both of AZ's best teams. Rumors were a flying.

If/when this happens... I'm so glad 4*Phil has a funky delivery.

I could think of about a thousand reasons why I’d rather play major college football than minor league professional football. He’s gonna get paid, might as well go for more rings at Clemson then go straight to the NFL.

Easy to write when you aren't the one staring at a $10,000,000.00 check. He'd be in the NFL at the same time either way.

So he would play in the NFL and then in the AAF in the offseason??

Its not about money to me. Major college football is 20x better in atmosphere, competition, and just about everything else. And Trevor is probably already playing better competition now than he would in the AAF.

No, he would play in the AAF immediately, this year and next when he can't enter the NFL and then go to the League in 2021. He can't go to the NFL until then anyways.

Or there's the XFL in '20... Who knows how this works out?

What if Vince McMahon offers him $100M guaranteed to play in the XFL starting in '20? Would be a great disrupter move by Vince.

Everything as we know it is about to change.

I would think the NFL would have to worry about this more than college football. If someone like Mahomes sees Lawrence getting paid $100 mil guaranteed, he might take his ass over to the AAF.

If the AAF is going to allow hit/sacks like they allowed last night, the NFL is in trouble because people want to see that stuff.

Going from the NFL to the AAF doesn't work. Big Sneaker wants to wrap up endorsement deals with future stars so they pluck them from college, give them $10M and the AAF gives them $150k and two years of development. If you are in the NFL already, the shoe company doesn't wanna pay your salary and send you to a league that has less eyes.

I hope so. College football feels ready to collapse under its own weight. I’ve been quietly rooting for the forced subsidy* TV model to fail for precisely this reason.

Frankly baseball has the better development model - at least when it comes to domestic players. Kids can sign right out of high school but if they do MLB has created a cost/tuition fund which helps to foot the bill for college if they wash out and go back to school. So many kids are pushed into BS college courses and dumped off at the side of the road when they would be better off doing full time football and then becoming full time students after those non-classroom obligations and pressures disappear.

Anyway Trevor Lawrence shouldn’t *have* to wait and see if he goes Marcus Lattimore when he could get set-for-life money today.

*Conferences leveraging its channel package onto basic cable to force non-fans to pay for it. The B1G doesn’t GAF about Rutegers, they just want to hold those footprint households hostage.

Wait, a shoe company is backing him for the AAF? I thought that agent said Adidas was willing to make him an offer if he went to the pacific pro league which starts next fall.

A fall league would seem to make more sense because it wouldn't conflict with the NFL draft process and it would give him more time to decide and join a team.

I guess the AAF does have the advantage of potentially having better competition than the pacific pro league and if they were able to get him now they would probably be able to get him game ready decently quickly thanks to the limited defensive coverages and limit of 5 rushers.

I really hope he does it. Not only would it be really interesting, I just feel like the more players who are only focused on the NFL that leave CFB the better it is for ND because we have something besides the NFL to sell players on. Yes, our talent level might fall, but if it falls less than the level of the factory programs then it put us in a relatively better position.

Edit: Also, according to their rules regarding where players play, Lawrence should be on the Atlanta Legends because they are associated with Clemson, but I think the league is very aware that QBs are the most important part of the league, so they might be willing to put him in the best possible situation.
