I've always loved the long striders that look like they're gliding on the field. He pulled away from everyone and made some miss. Count me in with the impressed!

Not trying to derail this kids thread but can someone help me understand this ST Brown thing?

Did he do something this year exceptional? Did he do Tate like catches or pull victory out of the jaws of defeat like Samardjiza did single handedly? Did he make more catches than say, half the countries leading WRs did? Did he show anything that would make one think he could compete against the very best CBs in the nation?

Im guessing 0 of 4 here.

So NFL is going to make this guy a top pick based on potential that he never performed up to in college?

Over or under 500 yards receiving for him next year? If St. Brown leaves I would go the over

Hahaha I'm gonna slow down on Over/Under's with a Freshman. Too many variables with someone we've never seen on campus.
How long will it take him to learn the play book?
Who will be in front of him on the 2 deep?
Will he steal sweatpants?? .... Its just too hard to predict

Yeah I'm not sure I really see it.

Watching this film and thinking, "no way I'd chose ASB over this kid".

(obviously both wouldn't be bad)... Feel like KA is criminally underrated.

Disagree, I think that's the closest ND comparison, but he's more fluid that Floyd.

Dez Bryant.

Either way those are two great players to be compared to.

Think i may agree with this ... Floyd was an absolute bull, and amazing in his High school film, but i do like Austin's hips (pause). Seems to be super smooth and agile.

I agree. There are very few players in this class I'm as confident in being an impact starter as KA.

I think ASB maybe has more upside and ASB is obviously an elite playmaker with explosive athletic traits... but KA's size + ball skills combo to go with good athleticism makes me think his "floor" is "very good starter."

In general, my favorite thing about this class is how many players are legit prospects with either good floors or high ceilings or both. There are very few "fliers" being taken. Many of the guys I'd rate higher than their rating... Jurkovec, Austin, Allen, Simon to name a few. Like how McGrone is the #31 player in the country per 247 and Simon isn't even top 100 blows my mind... as an OLB Simon is taller, faster, and roughly the same weight and much better coverage skills... he is an ideal hybrid LB prospect that should be a 96-98 rating IMO. I think a lot of our "best" prospects are actually the ones that are underrated, whereas usually we're having to make the case of "our 3:s: players are going to be diamonds in the rough!"

I think kevin Austin will be a player, to me he looks like a 6'3 version of kevin stepherson.

After watching this video again it's a wonder he doesn't have some more big time offers. Super excited he is Irish.

I agree with it all. I said a few months back that this is the foundation from which a lot of wins will be coming from. Several multi year starters playing at a near elite level. Need to fill some gaps and losing some guys early (Tillery, Coney, ESB, etc.) will be tough to deal with initially, but in 2 years this group as sophomores will be making a significant impact.

I think it’s about the hand strength, and being a handful after the catch.

Tate has a knack for reaching out and catching the ball away from his body with both hands, and is strong enough that defenders can’t do anything about it... that trait appears to be all over Austin’s film.

Tate is also rarely tackled straight up... defenders usually wrap up his body and hang on for dear life, while Tate uses his strength to keep walking the yards. It’s almost crazy how often a tackler drags him to the sidelines without actually getting him down, or how often the play is blown dead because his momentum is stopped while he’s still on his feet because the defenders can’t get him down. Austin looks to have similar body control and strength on the run.

Senior Film looks great! He's going to be awesome for the Irish. But I did have to laugh at some of that competition.

Good eye. Horrible competition for Florida.

Coach Kelly compared him to Golden Tate I believe

If Golden Tate was 6-3, he'd already be in the HOF as a WR or a DE.

Holy SH1T ! Never saw film on him before .... Absolute Beast! Obviously a physical freak, but also uses his hands so well, and has great burst! Very impressive

I assume he is in UA or Army bowl??? Would love to hear the scouts rave all week of practice at one of those events !

Good eye. His burst is elite. He also grabs a different gear on the fly very well. That was something Will Fuller possessed also but Fuller used it mostly when the ball was in the air to gain separation. Austin does it in traffic with the ball in his hands.

He's in the Under Armour game.

Over or under 500 yards receiving for him next year? If St. Brown leaves I would go the over

In gambling terms? Under. If all the chips fall right (for him) with the roster, could he? I think so.

Not trying to derail this kids thread but can someone help me understand this ST Brown thing?

Yes he did exceptional things. The guy is an All Time HS WR.

He plays against P5 guys everyday in practice and on Friday nights.

Yes he makes incredible catches, he gets big YAC against Top 10 national teams,

No he didn't pull out amazing victories... they beat all the Top 20 teams by 14-50 points.

He put up 72/1320/20 TD/2 PR-TD and missed 3 games at the start of the season.

He shares the ball with:

Nicco Remigio (Cal) - 45/700/10 TD
Chris Parks (UCLA) - 50/700/5
Bru McCoy (5* Jr. ND Offer) - 45/770/11

Dude's as good as you can be in HS. He's gonna be good in college, he just might not have elite athleticism that makes him a Golden Tate, Steve Smith, Antonio Brown on Sunday's.

Disagree, I think that's the closest ND comparison, but he's more fluid that Floyd.

Dez Bryant.

MUCH more fluid than Floyd. Dez Bryant is good, a young Terrell Owens, Julio Jones... If Michael Crabtree was a few inches taller...

I think you're spot on with Austin but I think he has more upside than ASB long term. Neither have proven to be sub 4.6 guys, if you have the same speed and the same ability to get YAC then I'll take the guy who's 5" taller with a foot+ larger catch radius.

In regards to Simon... he's not faster than McGrone. I'd rather have Simon for his skillset as a LB in the passing game and Elko's Rover spot but I do have some reservation regarding his athleticism... not that he'll fail, I think a 4.7's LB who knows what he's doing can be an elite college backer. I just hope his athleticism doesn't stop him from being a 9-10 in college vs. even an 8.

He does. His profile on here isn't up to date. Here's his Rivals bio.

Is now. Added his Sr highlight and signing vid to the front page and got distracted by some cookies!

For being in Florida, no Georiga, FSU, Bama, LSU, Texas offers. But he does have some good offers like OSU, Florida, USC.

That's what makes HS football recruiting fun. Unlike HS basketball, there ARE hidden gems in every state.

Boy, he sure looks fast on his tape but those times aren't really that good. Not sure I want to open up a conversation on speed vs quickness and all that...just a little surprising.

Im a soccer guy, who happens to love football, and by no means a film scout... but correct me if im wrong....... in those Miami Regional Opening highlights you posted, his separation on those 1 v1s seems to be VERY GOOD! quite impressive. Whether his numbers show it or not, he is "football fast", and uses his burst the right way!

Yes...loved to see how he gets separation and "high points" the ball. Seems like he has vice-grips for hands...reminds me of Michael Floyd

Remember when everyone said the same shit about Brent? At least I remember being shipped about that signing. Feel the same now. Praying for a better result.
