Ok. Fact that Schiano actually coached NPF in high school makes it a little less skeezy. But still. Don’t choose a school for an assistant coach! Don’t do it Nick!

(especially when said coach would right now be coaching someplace else if not for an Internet outrage mob. Schiano is clearly not long for OSU.)

he's probably out the door the day after signing day (which is kind of normal in cfb)

IF NPF would choose to go to pOSU, it would have nothing to do with Schiano being an assistant coach on the opposite side of the ball. The possibility of Schiano leaving would probably have very little to do with NPF's decision.

The part that does make a difference is that Schiano is someone who NPF has a relationship with and whom NPF probably respects and trusts. If someone like that tells you glowing things about the program because he (Schiano) has seen and experienced them first hand, then it probably carries a lot of weight.

ND mods like Florida besides Driskell =( He likes ND based on nothing but his gut and his never wrong attitude

This is what all the other analysts are basing it on as well. All of the analysts have been saying all along that they have no idea which way he is leaning because NPF isn't tipping his hand in any way.

If I had to guess, I would say Florida as well. This is only based upon the fact that Wiltfong and others have repeatedly mentioned how close he is to his Mom. Speculation then leads some to think that means he's more likely to stay close to home. Up to this point I haven't heard any analysts that have a "source" or concrete info that leads them to believe he will sign with a certain team. He could go to any of the schools that are in his final group.

It also sounds like his coach is pushing ND and OSU as well. I remember how much his coached loved ND when we were going hard after Agholor but he was committed to USC for two years. But we really did all we could with Nelly

Also I remember a LB we almost took from Berkeley Prep I forget his name

Stumbled upon the fact that Gary Godsey is an assistant coach at Berkeley.

Wiltfong on Bucknuts Morning 5 today. Starts at the 1:50 mark

While he again said that NPF could go anywhere including Bama, the buzz is that ND and Florida are in a good spot and nobody is sleeping on the Buckeyes with his upcoming official. He "thinks" it will be one of those 3.

Trying to get his teammate to tag along. Nice strategy.

Freebie writeup on Benjamin
https://247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Notre-Dame-adds-preferred-walk-on-OLDL-Cody-Benjamin-114515681

Notre Dame added a commitment on Thursday from Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep two-way lineman Cody Benjamin, who accepted a preferred walk-on offer to play for the Irish.

The 6-5, 245-pounder from the class of 2018 is a versatile player with the potential to play along the offensive line and defensive line, and could also be a long snapper for the Fighting Irish.

If the above-mentioned school sounds familiar, it should. Berkeley Prep is also home to five-star offensive tackle and top Notre Dame target Nicholas Petit-Frere, who has the Fighting Irish in his final group, with a decision expected next Wednesday on National Signing Day.

“I’ve been talking a lot with coach Peloquin about Notre Dame,” said Benjamin. “They were actually down at the school yesterday. Obviously, they were here to recruit my teammate, Nicholas Petit-Frere, who is a top target for them, but when I met coach Kelly and coach Quinn, they seemed excited about me.They called today and said I had an offer. I’m pretty excited about it.

“Pretty much,” he added, when asked if he committed on the spot. “Coach said, ‘I know it’s been a big dream, but talk with your family first’, but I just knew from the get go I wanted to play at Notre Dame, so I accepted.”

Benjamin has been to multiple Notre Dame games in the past. This was an offer he wasn’t going to pass on.

“Every weekend I grew up watching Notre Dame with my dad,” said Benjamin. “We’ve been there in the past a couple times. This is definitely the dream school.”

So, can anyone get him to change his mind prior to Wednesday’s National Signing Day?

“Not a chance,” said Benjamin.

Benjamin wasted no time recruiting his five-star, elite teammate to South Bend. They spoke quickly after he accepted the offer.

“We played right next to each other along the offensive line,” sad Benjamin of Petit-Frere. “I already told him that we should room together at Notre Dame. He just laughed. He’s keeping an open mind about all schools right now, so I don’t even know what his plans are yet.”

Benjamin chose to walk-on at Notre Dame over accepting scholarship offers to Holy Cross, Davidson, Florida Tech and others.

recruiting sites kill me. every single one of them has stated no one knows with this kid then they want to put an article out saying who has a lead.

They're saying no one knows for sure, but they have a feeling ND has a slight lead.

As long as they qualify as "we haven't been told this", I'm fine with them giving their gut feel. The dance-around "hard to tell" answers are so boring from reporters.

Certainly can't hurt with NPF

Hudl Highlights lists him at 6'5" 245 pound OL/DE. Wonder where we plan on placing him.

3.95 GPA with a 1310 SAT

If you look at pictures of him he has on twitter, he is skinny. Between him and NPF, I feel like the strength program at Berkeley must not be great. I could see this kid being a good scout team tackle if he is able to put on weight or a DE if he can't, but I think he could actually play if he can put on weight and get faster because of the better strength program.

EDIT: He is also a long snapper, so that could be a nice insurance policy if our LS gets hurt.

Having his buddy commit, might help more than we think this late in the game. He's seen and talked to his favorites, already knows everything he needs to know, so having one of your friends on the team may tip the scales in our favor, unless he has a teammate committed to the Gators.

But is he really his friend...

So within the past few days we've had:

- "It'll come down to ND or OSU, but don't rule out Florida."
- "It'll be either Florida or ND, but OSU is still in this one."
- "I'm hearing OSU and Florida are leading, but ND can beat them."

which I take to mean no one knows anything

Correct. Of those opinions above, most of the analysts have said they are going with their gut.
