Not a starting caliber RT.

I don’t know what the solution is, especially with Carmody out and Fisher out but I don’t see positives to move forward with Lugg. I still think the OT solution is Patterson but doesn’t sound like that’s on the table.

Yeah I know he’s battled back issues in the past but he looks so overwhelmed on every play that w/o double team help, he’s getting beat on almost every play.

The play that Lugg got pancaked by Karlaftis (I think) into Coan reminded me of when Tuitt pancaked the Michigan RT into their QB for a sack years ago…smh. Can Alt really be any worse than him?

Agree. He did okay on the interior but can't move well enough in space. Was hoping they'd try him at LG, slide Correll to C and Patterson to RT, but it's probably too late for that with our stretch of games coming up.

Lugg isn't exactly an All-American but I think we would be sorta foolish to not be excited about a guy with that much experience returning. If he made that decision.

As long as he's ok with sitting... cool.

If Baker's not transferring, I don't really care one way or the other.

I think I'd rather have a guy with three years of experience as a starter than a guy making their first start at Ohio Stadium.

I’d agree with this if the guy who has three years of starting experience actually plays like a guy who has three years of starting experience. Lugg is just not good IMO. Virtually guaranteed for a false start or two and a hold each game. Not something a veteran at ND should ever be doing. Hopefully he can fix things if he comes back.

No it’s time to have big boy convos across the country about the COVID eligibility. He should not be asked back because I don’t see a scenario where they do and he doesn’t start

OK, you changed my mind. He starts at OG and at some point, relinquishes the spot to Spindler.

If he/NFL teams think his back wont hold up at the next level and he really enjoys being here, and will slide in to RG next year, bring him in. A Line of Fisher-Dirksen/Carmody-Patterson-Lugg-Alt could be very good, and if not he provides good depth in case of any transfers. But thanks but no thanks if he wants to come back to play Tackle.

He's not what we would like him to be, but I'm all for the experience. We're better off if he returns.

Agreed, especially if he isn’t in the five best, would be great to have him as the sixth man who can plug any injury whole and get you through a game without jumbling the whole line

There is a recurring narrative on this board to just let starters walk.

Lugg has been an average tackle, but obviously there is room to improve. He has gotten better as the season has gone along, the entire OL have. Whether he is a starting or not, he brings leadership and at the very least depth. Whether he’s an NFL prospect or not, he still has some value. I’m sure he would rather be a backup at ND, continue his ND education that be a starter at a G5 school

I think if he came back you’d play him at RG and have Kristofic player center. And that’d be a MUCH better line than any which features Correll. But your tackles next year need to be Alt/Fisher if they’re both healthy.

Unless Patterson comes back.

Just curious - why have you removed Kristofic from the starting line-up? He has started over Dirksen/Carmody all season, why would that change?

I’m fine with Lugg returning if it’s expected he would likely return to his 6th man role. Just is not a good OL P5 starter tho to be honest IMO

I could never imagine not coming back if you're offered to. A free year of graduate school from ND? Even if you aren't playing a lot, why the hell not

I wonder how much Hiestand factored into his decision.

Lugg is probably a captain next year too I presume?
