Hopefully the light comes on for Barajas.

Is he going to play MIKE though? Wasn't he on the weak side depth chart in spring? I also believe some people even wanted him at SAM. Not sure.

I think you are thinking of Bilal not Barajas. Barajas is a Mike.

Nope. Thinking Barajas.

Like most of the linebackers recruited under VanGorder there's a question of where Barajas will play. As things stand it could be at any of the three spots. During camp before his injury he was running with the third team at the weak-side spot. That seemed like the least likely position of the three possibilities, especially being a little heavy and working at a spot where speed is important.

If Barajas stays at the weak-side there may be no one standing in his way for spring unless other players shuffle around. Jaylon Smith is gone and Te'von Coney is out for several months with a shoulder injury, so that clears the deck for an immediate audition when practice opens.

I personally like each time Mike Frank's and Tom Lemming's words come into conflict. It makes me feel like life is worth living!

Funny you mention that today. MF on PowerHour just called him one of the prospects who may not live up to his ranking based on how his athleticism translates to the college game. He's a high school killer, but will he be effective in college was the basic line of thinking.

He was clear that it might--he said he had the same questions regarding Tevon Coney last year--but that he just didn't think it was a sure thing.

I saw that, I honestly couldn't disagree more with him. Mike is right that you can sometimes see how a player's speed and athleticism is going to translate to the next level. But honestly, I didn't see that problem with Adams or White (he mentioned him too). Thing is, the level of competition played can factor into how difficult it can be to perceive the speed of a player. A low 3-star guy can look like Jaylon Smith playing 2A football in Kansas. The problem is that Adams and White play in some of the most competitive classes of football there is in the country.

If they are at least as fast as Joe we know BVG will play em.

Only about 6 months. I have a question regarding Nyles...Did he redshirt last year or is he playing his 3rd year of eligibility this year?

3rd year man, Vancouver guy meeting up with an Avon guy! Not something you see everyday lol. But yes, Joe Schmidit didn't come off the field last year and we basically wasted Nyles 2nd year of eligibility playing special teams. He was huge in that role for us at times but he was way to talented of a player never to really see a meaningful down but I am not going to bring this up for the 789th time

Something tells me Nyles wouldn't be here for a 5th season anyway, so it might not matter.

I'm also very excited about this guy. He's gonna be an awesome addition to this team. I think he's going to be a great one for us.

I also think that David is going to be great for Notre Dame but I would definitely not sleep on Drew White. He is more athletic than David IMO and can play more than just the MIKE. For being just an 84 rating, he has some really good P5 offers.

Side note: Our 2017 linebackers, will they be playing these positions?
David Adams: MIKE
Pete Werner: SAM
Drew White: MIKE/WILL

Good points, I thought I read somewhere that White is a Will, they like Werner at Will as well with his speed and that's why they are looking at Phillips to play SAM

Barajas told me himself via Facebook message that he's playing Mike this year.

I would love if Werner were to play Will. I know everyone projects him at Sam, but I just see him being a super will crashing the edge.

Here's my prediction, he gets to campus and doesn't get above 225, then becomes Tranquil's replacement.

Crusader on the call!

I also heard/read that he'll be playing Will and I agree that Drew White should not be slept on. He is a very fast, technical, sure-tackler that is a star, leader and captain for St Thomas Aquinas which is one of the better programs in the country. I could see him at Mike/Will but Adams will probably be our Starting Mike in the future. His pursuit and closing speed and pure middle LB skills and awareness is through the roof. A top 3 MLB in the country. I love it.

I ended up being "friends" with a few players from ND over the last few years and Barajas added me as we had mutual friends so to get some info for myself and for IE I asked him what position he was training at this year and thus told me Mike and that he's pumped about it. If Morgan goes down with an injury I could see Martini filling in for him but Barajas is a few plays away from playing Mike for us this year. Let's hope he's picking it up well. Physically, in the spring, he certainly looked ready. Mentally is a different story I'm sure.
