Can I ask why you think he is a MUST get?

Know one really knows because the staff hasn't pushed for him or talked about it. Wouldn't surprise me if we didn't know till signing day much like we did with Daniel

A few key differences:
It's not like we were slow-playing Daniel Cage. We weren't recruiting him at all until Diaco left because he didn't fit Diaco's template.
Daniel also wasn't a top ten recruit at his position, an Ohio State commit. He was committed to a MAC school when we came calling, IIRC. Jerron's got a lot more options.
I'm sure the coaches have their reasons but I don't understand why we wouldn't just take this kid, assuming he wants to come. Before somebody else does.

Wasnt Daniel uncommitted when we started recruiting him. And I believe MSU was the biggest competition for him.

Fair enough. May be confusing the commit with someone else. Looks from his thread like MSU and some lower-tier P5 offers - Illinois, Mizzou. 247 Composite ranked 24th DT.
Also gis thread was created Jan 12, which is my bigger point. We didn't offer Daniel until very late, that's why he was a late commit. We're slow playing Jerron, for some reason. But a lot of kids get tired of that treatment.

At this point, I think Jerron is already a member of next year's team or he's fighting for a spot with a recruit that doesn't play DT.

First off, He's visited ND 5-6 times and OSU just 2. The 2 games he saw OSU play, ND was on the road in TX and NY. It's not like he's that far from OSU, it's just 100 miles. It's a strange look regardless if your parents are driving up every weekend to see your brother play..

In regards to roster room, ND loses 3 scholarships on the DL and have 3 commits. That's a wash. ND has numbers along the interior but I can't say it's a cast of equals that all contribute when their time comes. If one or two of them weren't taken my guess is Jerron would already be publicly on board.

Lastly, the class of '18's DT crop is loaded. They have a 4 star on board already in Ademilola and it's also a year where 10 out of 12 top recruits are outside of SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, TX. One is Sam's brother PJ, one went to high school with Hoge in Idaho. One is Thompson from St Louis who they had at the game yesterday, 4 go to Catholic schools and 2 are at IMG where ND has a former player on staff and has done well recruiting from. Have to like where ND is right now even if it's just Ademilola and the perceived lead for Mustipher.

It's a chess game right now.

I think you have the wrong guy bro because Daniel was a huge MSU lean with Louisville running second before ND got into it late.

I've read the same and am with you on this. IMO we need to get one more high quality DT, one or two DE's (especially a pass rushing WDE), a WR, an OT, certainly a safety and Thomas Graham. Thoughts?

I would definitely take 1-2 more DE's and WR's. We are stacked at offensive linemen. Secondary help is always welcome.

This could get interesting, much like Simmons recruitment, no info. OSU's boards feel really good about Marvin Wilson and Tuefele (sp?). Cage might be the odd man out. For a kid so familiar with the program, you'd think we'd stand a pretty good chance. Also, Daniel's career might be done, after this last concussion. 1. Shows the importance of education. 2. Maybe opens a scholarship for Jerron.

We really need Daniel back.....without him, we're pretty thin on talent at DT. Tillery has been quite disappointing but will be an experienced upperclassmen next year. Taylor showed a few flashes but is young and inexperienced. Dew-Treadway and Tiassum are both project players that always just looked like depth guys. We don't know what we have with Ewell but it looks like he might play. Looks a little scary, especially considering injuries and durability........fingers are crossed here.

MDT was really coming on before the injury. Test for him is can he round back to form after the injury?

Yeah. Very thin and puts a lot on Tillery, which does not inspire a ton of confidence.
Also, what ever happened to Jay Hayes? He popped up for a bit mid-season and then kind of disappeared again. Expected a lot more of him.

While Terry Jillary didn't shock the world, I thought he was getting better as the year went on. I expect him to raise his game to another level next year.

His problem is consistency, there are times where he looks great then he looks awful and his bad has been really bad and it overshadows the good he's done.

I think it's quite possible he does. He's got loads of potential and had some very good games this year. But he needs to get his head on straight to make the most of that potential, and that's been a challenge so far. It's up to him, really.

I can no longer blame the inconsistencies of Tillery on him, because I have yet to see consistency from ANY defensive linemen over the last 2 years, with the exception of Day. The combination of a very underwhelming S&C program, along with a disappointing track record from Gilmore, leaves me very skeptical that this is simply a Tillery issue.

it was even noted by Day that he needed to much more focused and consistent

-sent home from bowl game

-stomped on player, nudge down player in head

-many reporters covering ND have stated IF he focuses on football he could be much better and have questioned his desire/motivation

It's a Tillery issue

I don't agree. Tillery does have consistency issues, but I'm more pointing out the possibility that he may never overcome those issues with our current staff, because outside of Day, what defensive lineman has? Rochell was inconsistent, Jarron was inconsistent, Cage was inconsistent.

I think Tillery has character and work ethic issues that he can sort out, but coaching and leadership leaves me skeptical that A) It's his issue entirely and B) It can be fixed.

Jarron was inconsistent-has been his ENTIRE career
Rochell was inconsistent-DON'T agree at all...he has been consistently average
Cage was inconsistent-multiple concussions and has been basically what his rating was 3* play

i guess we will just have to disagree

Suppose so, as I don't think Rochell has been consistently average as you put it. He's had moments where he looked great and then lulled back down to average. That's inconsistent in my book.

Frankly that's true of most college football players. Rochell basically played to his level. No shame in that but anyone who was expected another Day or Tuitt probably expected too much.

Depends on what you mean by "played to his level", because Rochell had the capability of being a bulldozer and based on recruiting ranks, he's the highest rated defensive line recruit we've gotten in the last 4 cycles (he was ranked just as high as Day the previous year). It seemed like he was one of those guys who would miraculously lose weight over the season, like he was halfway through a magic act. Watch his muscle disappear!

He certainly did not play up to his level this season, but I saw more potential in him. Just seems like if he can get on a good S&C plan and keep his weight up, he can be a good player at the next level.

Didn't Rochelle have a back problem that nearly needed surgery? I thought this offseason was his first time doing full body lifts in two seasons.

I'd say he was everything we wanted considering.
