WE had a big drop off when we lost Dex now we lose the only RB who might break a 50 yarder? oh well looks like we will get some good looks at what else we have. We saw what TJjr has and it was decent but he looks for a hole as opposed to trying to burst thru quickly a la Dex. Not sure this would be the least exciting starting back I can remember. I wasn't a huge Cam fan although he got a lot out of what he had but thught Folston was a lot better but Cam was the offensive equivalent to Joe Schmidt (Coach Fav). Armando Allen was underwhelming, Robert Hughes probably better than TJjr. We went fro a wealth back there to unknown. TJjr is a small FB imo. I think Jahmir has more burst and hits the tacklers harder. I wonder if we can preserve another year for Jafar. Did he burn a year last year? I really going to miss the long TDs from Adams and Dexter.

He redshirted his freshman year.

This is why RB recruiting is sooooo important. Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree are coming but that’s probably not for another year or two before we see dividends from that. For now Autry Denson left Tony Jones Jr, Jahmir Smith, and C’Bo Flemister. Gotta hope they can find production from those 3.

I see Kyren getting another chance but those others are serviceable

C’Bo Flemister has pretty good speed IIRC, maybe the most burst out of all of them.

Then again, I could be making that up.

C'bo Flemister and Joe Wilkins are two guys that are just constantly hyped that I don't see anything in.

Joe Wilkins looked whatever the opposite of agile was in the spring game, and C'bo looks like he's 180 LBs and fumbles every time he touches the ball.

I'm a hard pass on both, so I don't count on C'bo as being a viable option this year.

We need Kyren Williams to be trusted and actually deliver quickly to get in the mix. Otherwise I fear we run Tony Jones Jr into the ground by USC game.

Would they think about moving him back to WR for next season?
Pretty thin there and he is fast and I haven't seen him drop one.
Who will it be at WR next season:
Young
Keys
Johnson
McKinley
Lenzy

He's in his ideal spot, he could've avoided that collision but maybe he gets hurt on a different one. We don't have a perfect replacement, he was poised for some big numbers but my money is on Kyren filling that role now. Use the other three backs in some timeshare and use Kyren on the RB pass plays, 2 RB sets, etc.

He just needs to catch the next one because Kelly wasn't happy he dropped his first pass.

When on earth has C’Bo ever been hyped?

Agreed. Kelly is a bit fickle, he was hyping KW all pre season or sitting back and letting the media hype him. Then one drop pass and he is over him. WTH?
Get KW a lot of football against New Mexico.

Kelly pretty optimistic re Jafar in yesterdays press conf. "Making great progress. Hopeful right around the USC game"

Kelly tends to dial these predictions back as he closer to the game in question but even if he's off by two weeks that would still get him back for Mich (bye week in between).

Man, we need some speed at RB.

Man, we need some speed at RB.

It is by far, our biggest position of need. We need to get the running game on track to give Ian more to work with.

Jafar would have definitely helped Sat night. Can you imagine The Golden Jet, Chris Tyree??? I would love to see how a talent like that would have been able to change the game a bit for us, against a team like UGA. Granted he may not be the "in-between the tackles" type back, but his electric skill set would surely help open things up all around.

cant believe with all these backs out there this is what we currently have? How many teams in div I do ANY of our RBs start on? So far this season all 3 opponents have had better RBs than us. That has not been the case the last 5 or more years going back to when Kelly stubbornly kept giving he ball to Cam instead of Folsten. Couldn't get anyone out of the portal? Our line was opening some huge holes against Louisville for a while. Not sure if this is good news or not but none of them will be leaving early for a career in the NFL.

BTW Denson obviously sucked at recruiting. How is he doing coaching at his division % school?

Apparently he's going through warmups in uniform. Looks good that he'll be back for USC next week.

That would be great if he's back and ready to go vs Trojans. Gonna need a full stable, gotta win that game. Haven't really had all our cards for any of our games yet.

He is still not 100%. Last year he was quick and explosive and this year he is neither. I hope he isn't hurt or good.

Surely he’s still banged up b/c you would think nd would just feed him in the second half garbage time to get him some rhythm.

Has one player had fluke injuries in back to back seasons like Jafar? Kid showed talent in space last season but outside of a few screens that he could get loose, he’s been a non-factor this season.

We did. He had seven carries in the last three possessions. Only Jones got more carries on the game. But Jafar barely played in the first half - perhaps because they had Jones in there for pass pro for Navy's blitzes?

Not sure what to make of Armstrong. I know he's been dinged up a lot. But maybe that's, at least in part, because he's not a natural RB? I feel like he's the kind of guy who should get 5-10 touches in space because he's so explosive, not be RB1. But, then, we don't really have an RB1 at this point so maybe can't be too choosy?

I'd put him at Ultraback next year. In motion out of two back sets, line him up at X, Y or Z, jet sweeps, run him from the I. Just kidding about the I, ND will never be that cool again.

Wasn't that the idea at the start of the year? They were practicing two-back sets with him and Jones? But, yes, the I. Do it.

Best under the radar result from Stanford game is Jafar finally looked like the guy he was touted to be preseason. Looked fast albeit vs a slow team, but that field will slow anyone down. Knocked some guys back a well.

Didn't really see a fast change of direction tho which is what has been missing.
