I don't know what the future holds for Jafar but after his first 2 games in the rotation, he has more touches/targets than anyone else. If that continues throughout his career and he picks up how to be a RB like Prosise did, his name will be used in the same sentence as Heisman at some point.

Yup, it's not far fetched. I have no complaints for a guy who is a RS Fr changing positions and was only a three star. Led the team this week in rushing and yrds/carry, second leading in rcv yards and tied for first in yrds/catch.... Leading the team with 3 rushing TDs... hard not be impressed.... if he learns and progresses, hard not to be excited. he's just starting down his road.

Wimbush is their best RB...by far...yet the staff wanted to protect him thinking the OL would dominate what was reported as one of the worst FBS defenses in the nation. I think you could count the # of designed Wimbush runs on one hand. I don’t recall a win feeling like a loss since the 2014 Navy win.

It’s clear he’s still learning how to play RB. But his talent is also very apparent. He’s going to get better and he’s going to be special, IMO.

Him and Jones make a nice 1-2 punch.

With that said, I’m not sure why we don’t use more 2 RB sets, with motion. Sounds like we practiced it, just not using it?

This sucks. Dex needs to step up. I hope they increase Dex's planned carries, and not try to put more on AD.

Notre Dame Football: Running Back Jafar Armstrong OUT For Stanford Game With Knee Injury

Notre Dame’s top scorer will be on the sidelines for the Stanford game.

By Joshua Vowles@TheSubwayDomer Sep 28, 2018, 7:07pm EDT

According to a report from Irish Illustrated’s Tim Prister, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be without running back Jafar Armstrong for their upcoming game against the Stanford Cardinal.

Armstrong has a knee infection that must have developed some time this week, as he is coming off of his best performance of the season against Wake Forest. In that game, Jafar had 98 yards rushing on 8 carries with 2 touchdowns. He leads the team in touchdown with 5 on the season.

This will probably mean that Dexter Williams will see a bigger role against Stanford than what most of us thought he would have coming off of the unofficial suspension. Tony Jones Jr. will most likely retain his role as a starter, but Notre Dame does like to rotate backs.

How does one get a knee infection? It would have been an open wound, no?

This is actually concerning. Typically when people talk about an infection of a joint it's called septic arthritis. It can be caused by multiple different bugs (including chlamydia and gonorrhea which we worry about more in college kids). Typically its not from a wound or procedure rather bacteria seeds the joint for reasons we don't know. Depending on what is causing his septic arthritis he could require hospitalization and often months of IV antibiotic. It's something to be taken very seriously. Praying for the kid, hope it's not too severe.

He was having fluid drained from his knee this past week and developed an infection from that. That's per ISD. I usually don't post any premium info from them because, well, it's premium but wanted to nip this rumor mill in the bud.

Not directed at you specifically ND-North, just at everyone throwing out possibilities of how he got the infection.

A knew infection certainly isn't a common football related injury. For his well being, I hope it doesn't turn into anything serious and can be taken care of asap.

I think he'll be fine. Having fluid around certain joints is a common issue in contact sports and when you stick a needle into the joint large enough to drain the fluid it becomes more understandable as to how he could get an infection. I doubt this is anything like MRSA or some kind of immune system issue. Probably had a small wound on his knee from the needle draining the fluid and it got infected. I'm no doctor but that's my guess.

I had a coral injury on my leg earlier this year that ended up getting a staph infection. If that's the situation, a week of antibiotics should take care of it.

Its not always a big deal, or caused by something nefarious. I had septic knee in high school from wrestling. Just had to get it drained, and took antibiotics. Was fine in a week.

Have been draining the knee for weeks. Bursa sac infection. Was just in the hospital Thursday. Out until at least the week after the bye. Some rumblings that it could
be a little worse than initially anticipated, but nothing official confirming that. We’re at a wait and see for now I think.

I was surprised his name didn't come up that often in the game. Does anyone know if he was hurt and they decided to play him less or if his number just wasn't called that frequently?

Kelly said they ran him more than they should have versus Navy so maybe that had something to do with it but I think it was mostly game script. There were only 7 carries by a RB not named Dexter Williams and Jafar had 4 of those.

...and he took a helmet to helmet hit from Paddy Fisher on the sideline during the one good run he had. Coulda/shoulda been targeting.

If you look at the replay, Paddy intentionally fell on him out of bounds. He looked down, then fell on him with all his weight.
It was a cheap shot.
