I don't see how it bodes well for Arizona. What "decision" does he need to make if he's already committed? I'm not saying he will go to Notre Dame, but I don't see how that is a negative update for ND. There aren't a lot of kids that just reaffirm their commitment to a school when they make an announcement.

I understand that. However, if he was sold on ND, I would think he would have at least alerted the Arizona staff of his plans. The fact he hasn't done so, and hasn't made a decision, leads me to believe there's something about ND that is holding him back. You could say the same about Arizona, however, there's more things on the Arizona side that favors them in my opinion. Distance, family legacy, etc.

Maybe he's decided on ND, but hasn't notified AZ because he doesn't want to deal with the AZ staff calling/visiting trying to flip him back?

I don't think the coaches can call or visit, they can't contact him because it's a dead period.

I would think a committed kid taking an OV to another school the weekend before signing day is about all the alerting that needs to be done.

Well, of course it alerts the schools. However, believe it or not, some kids do reaffirm their original commitment. Coaches like to know one way or the other what you're intending to do. It lets them know the numbers they can expect, and plan for gaining/losing a guy. Now, this late in the game is much more difficult to plan for adding someone else if you lose a kid. However, it's still common courtesy that you let each staff know what you're decision is. A lot of times the schools want that kid to go public when they reaffirm as it's harder to go back on your word. It doesn't mean kids don't change their minds again, but it just makes it more difficult when you go public.

His signing plans have been announced but since it's premium I guess I can't say anything.

I can't tell if this is sincere or some passive-aggressive shtick that a lot of other posters have been tapping into. You can absolutely relay such information, as clearly spelled out here: http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/not...-posting-guidelines-everyone-please-read.html

None of us want to be policing this shit, but we have to. It's either that or shut down the website. And we're really not asking much... just follow the very simple, very clear guidelines for attribution.

Never been good at reading rules. Steve Hare (II) says decision has been made, coaches to be contacted tonight and announcement at his school tomorrow at 12:30 EST.

Specific dates as in commitment dates, visit dates, or any various announcement dates?

I don't think 247 can claim ownership over a player's decision dates, particularly if they are going to be common knowledge via a players' 247 profile anyway.

That's fine. There's a difference between what he might personally ask of you, and what follows legal/ethical guidelines we're setting forth as must be followed.

This is discussed in point 2 and 3 of the posting guidelines. You are allowed to discuss information you read, no different than texting a friend that you "heard XYZ". That includes a visit date or an announcement date.

So, for this example, it would be fine to say "so and so is saying he's made up his mind and will announce Febtober 32nd on the moon... really hope he's Irish, great prospect! (LINK)"... but it would not be OK to copy the source's entire post to here without attribution, etc.

Think of it like this... a snippet of information you could share with someone via text or in casual conversation is fine; something that requires massive summarizing of work product and/or copy+paste and/or lacks attribution is not cool. There's obviously a grey area, but we're flexible with that. We're not flexible with what that guy did the other day where he just goes "Louisville sites are saying X" because there's no attribution. What Louisville site? Who said? What did you copy and what is your original thought?

Thanks, this is a correct way of relaying information and all we would ask is that you also provide a link to his post or article where he said it.

i just wanna say if we are rehashing all this on a weekly basis, it cant be clear.

I for one wish all the source citing shit would just disappear and we can get back to sharing pertinent info like this site always has.

however, it seems that since the guidelines were posted things have gotten more chaotic not less. I dont know if thats people purposefully disobeying rules or what.

this was from Loy to me

No need to put “when the intel first came across, the specific details of where he picked the info up, if a specific date is given for a visit.” That is for the paying subscribers.

The reason why is that people refuse to read it and then say "what did I do wrong!?!" when they do something wrong. Of the people who have gotten in hot water since we put in teh guidelines, basically everyone but PANDFAN admittedly 1) didn't read it 2) read it and said "fuck that"

This. People just trying to be dicks on the internet, nothing new.

For the love of sin people, if you're going to post something, copy and paste the link as well. It's not hard and actually makes your statement credible, not to mention legal.

Even before this, if someone shared info it was often met with 'what's your source' since we wanted to know if it was legit.

Do students generally hold press conferences announcing they'll attend the school they've been committed to for half a year? Cautiously optimistic.

To be very clear, there may be a threshold of information he's unhappy with being shared. If that's above what our guidelines say, it's up to you whether you want to honor that.

The truth is that information behind a paywall is not protected from discussion elsewhere. This is actually well established in law, doesn't matter if it's a paywall for the Wall Street Journal or ESPN Insider or what. You are allowed to discuss the content externally, and quote snippets of it within reason.

For example, if Deadspin thought a piece written behind an ESPN paywall was garbage they are 100% allowed to discuss the content and even quote parts of it. Deadspin cannot copy the entire article for their readers to review.

So what we're asking is to follow this established legal/ethical precedent, which most do. If you read an article on 247 and it has a visit date in it you are legally allowed to talk about that upcoming visit and posting such information here is ethical if it's attributed. I know it's a pain in everyone's ass to rehash this over and over again but there have been numerous sites over the years that have been shut down for running afoul of what are effectively "plagiarism" rules. Complaints from certain media outlets about certain posts are why we have been having to police this more actively the past few months.
