I don't see how it bodes well for Arizona. What "decision" does he need to make if he's already committed? I'm not saying he will go to Notre Dame, but I don't see how that is a negative update for ND. There aren't a lot of kids that just reaffirm their commitment to a school when they make an announcement.

I understand that. However, if he was sold on ND, I would think he would have at least alerted the Arizona staff of his plans. The fact he hasn't done so, and hasn't made a decision, leads me to believe there's something about ND that is holding him back. You could say the same about Arizona, however, there's more things on the Arizona side that favors them in my opinion. Distance, family legacy, etc.

Well, of course it alerts the schools. However, believe it or not, some kids do reaffirm their original commitment. Coaches like to know one way or the other what you're intending to do. It lets them know the numbers they can expect, and plan for gaining/losing a guy. Now, this late in the game is much more difficult to plan for adding someone else if you lose a kid. However, it's still common courtesy that you let each staff know what you're decision is. A lot of times the schools want that kid to go public when they reaffirm as it's harder to go back on your word. It doesn't mean kids don't change their minds again, but it just makes it more difficult when you go public.

I don't think 247 can claim ownership over a player's decision dates, particularly if they are going to be common knowledge via a players' 247 profile anyway.

That's fine. There's a difference between what he might personally ask of you, and what follows legal/ethical guidelines we're setting forth as must be followed.

This is discussed in point 2 and 3 of the posting guidelines. You are allowed to discuss information you read, no different than texting a friend that you "heard XYZ". That includes a visit date or an announcement date.

So, for this example, it would be fine to say "so and so is saying he's made up his mind and will announce Febtober 32nd on the moon... really hope he's Irish, great prospect! (LINK)"... but it would not be OK to copy the source's entire post to here without attribution, etc.

Think of it like this... a snippet of information you could share with someone via text or in casual conversation is fine; something that requires massive summarizing of work product and/or copy+paste and/or lacks attribution is not cool. There's obviously a grey area, but we're flexible with that. We're not flexible with what that guy did the other day where he just goes "Louisville sites are saying X" because there's no attribution. What Louisville site? Who said? What did you copy and what is your original thought?

The reason why is that people refuse to read it and then say "what did I do wrong!?!" when they do something wrong. Of the people who have gotten in hot water since we put in teh guidelines, basically everyone but PANDFAN admittedly 1) didn't read it 2) read it and said "fuck that"

So what we're asking is to follow this established legal/ethical precedent, which most do. If you read an article on 247 and it has a visit date in it you are legally allowed to talk about that upcoming visit and posting such information here is ethical if it's attributed. I know it's a pain in everyone's ass to rehash this over and over again but there have been numerous sites over the years that have been shut down for running afoul of what are effectively "plagiarism" rules. Complaints from certain media outlets about certain posts are why we have been having to police this more actively the past few months.
