Had an excellent game today. His length reminds me a little of Bobby Taylor. Can only hope Donte continues to improve and his overall play approaches that of Bobby Taylor over time.

We're going to be in really really good shape at corner/nickel for a while now. Next year : Vaughn, Crawford, Watkins, Love, Pride, Coleman, White......not to mention Adebo, Hicks and MAYBE EVEN the stud outta Cali.....I don't wanna even say his name and jinx it.......Lets just hope our Safety situation turns up too.
SO EXCITED! Go Irish!!

Haven't been on a ton lately so not sure how long you've been back but welcome back. It's nice to have some positivity back to this board lol

Thanks dude. I appreciate that. I got banned for a few weeks as I copy and pasted premium site content which I didn't know was against the rules, but certainly now do understand why. It's been a tough year for ND but you gotta be excited about the youth and their experience/playing time they're getting. Thanks again man and I hope all is well. GO IRISH!!!

He has looked really good, for a freshman. Very impressed with how the young players have been play the ball in the air better. Bright future in the secondary. Good athletes and more importantly good football players. When this group are upperclassmen, it could turn out to be scary good

Crazy to think he was a 3 star out of Tenn., that the SEC powers didn't really care about.

Dude looks like the kind of corner we haven't had in a very long time. Fun to watch out there.

I cringe when I hear some people say move him to safety. When you can find a long, athletic guy his size who has the ability to flip his hips and run with receivers you've struck gold. With the emergence of all these 6-3, 6-4 athletic receivers if you've got a 6-2 corner with Vaughan's skill set he becomes a valuable asset at CB.

Very impressed with him yesterday. Maybe he read the Thomas Graham thread before the game? lol

I read somewhere that he's playing at 205. Can he keep his weight down at 6-2.5 as he matures? To me, he screams FS when you have a properly stocked DB roster. Also, the plays where he flashes are balls with air under them. He locates and plays those passes very well in space.

All that said, I hope he can continue on his current trajectory because standout 6-2+ CB's are the rarest commodity in football.

The only thing that could limit this secondary is if we don't match their talent in the front 7. They could produce something special for us the next 2-3 seasons but we need pressure up front.

Solid performance. Made some very nice plays on the ball and actually looked like a corner who tried to turn his head and find the ball instead of just barreling into the guy. Only thing I saw was later in the game, he needs to read the screen pass better, a lot of space given up and missed a key tackle on one drive. But overall very good performance

He's fun to watch. That play on the ball in the endzone where he really showed his wingspan was excellent.

Awesome performance yesterday and a couple great pass breakups getting his head around right before the ball came his way. After a rocky game against Stanford it was nice to see him bounce back. It's early but I think we got a good one

I don't remember seeing much or any of donte Vaughn on the field this year. after last season I thought he would be one of our better CBs, anyone know whats going on with him this year?

In hindsight I wish he would have gotten a chance to play one of the safety spots this summer in practice. He couldn't have been worse than ours, and he looked like a good tackler last year when given minutes.

Played a bit early, but not much. Just five tackles on the season, three of them vs MSU. Dunno what happened. Liked him a lot as a freshman.

Yep.
Also a tall, physical guy could have matched up well against those tall receivers Stanford threw at us.

Didn’t ever hear about what was up with Vaughn last year, here’s the explanation

https://www.google.com/amp/s/247sports.com/college/notre-dame/Article/Todd-Lyght-Welcomes-Competition-Freshmen-Included-117072606/Amp

Love’s classmate Vaughn in what was a lost season of 2017. After three starts as a true freshman, Vaughn played sparingly from scrimmage and never when the game was on the line last season.
“Last year was really tough for him having the back issue and the nerve issue that he had,” said Lyght of Vaughn’s 2017 spring session. “He was having shooting pains down his leg. He’s not hampered by that now. His development and progression has been great.

Yeah this makes sense. I was really impressed by his play his freshman year and was really disappointed that he wasn’t playing more last year. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do this year now that he seems to be healthy again. With Watkins gone, the Irish are going to need him to be able to cover some of the bigger receivers this year.

If he was that hurt I’m a little disappointed they didn’t redshirt him. So he could leave as a 5Y when younger guys jump him and we can debate whether the staff should have pity-started him to keep him around.

If he's been playing with one arm for a year and a half, why in the world wasn't this taken care of last off season?

It seems like ever since he got to ND he's been playing with one arm. Makes sense why he barely played all year but then have him line up 1 on 1 vs Justyn Ross now just really makes zero sense to me. I applaud Donte to grind it out this year and be there for his teammates.

My brother had this surgery its one of the worst recovery surgeries you are basically in an ice cast for 6 months 12-15 hours a day.

I literally just had this surgery due to multiple dislocations and there was a massive tear. It's not as bad as what some people make it out to be. Had surgery Nov 3rd. Sling for 6 weeks then Physical therapy. Going at it slow and without as much daily help as him and I'll be 100% by March. Doing PT right now twice a week and it's getting a lot better each day. So he probably won't be doing any upper body arm lifts for about 4 months. Start working on the back muscles with bands about 2nd week of PT. So IMO he'll be 100% or as close to 100% as he's gonna be around the beginning of June. Robby Carmody just had surgery for this as well and I think he's on track to be 100% by May. Also, by 100% I mean 100% cleared for contact and heavy lifting with as much range of motion as you're gonna get back. I'd say my rage of motion is about 90% right now.

If this is a fully torn rotator cuff then he should be back full strength in 4 months minus the strength he lost while not working out. I had it and it’s a bummer for 6 weeks he will be fine. Doesn’t affect your legs though

So the rehab is somewhere between 3 months (6 weeks in a sling) and at least 6 months (with 12-15 hours in some kind of ice cast). Glad we got that clarified.
